Samsung S4 IC Fix

Hi,

I am looking for a shop to take my Samsung S4 to get the IC fixed. All of a sudden, my Samsung S4 did not recognize my sim card. I tested other sim cards and all said the same. But all of them work in other phones. Then I noticed that only Maxis sim seems to work with my S4.

I took it to LowYat and most said they don't know how to fix it. One shop was willing to try but after attempting said they couldn't fix it.

So I need to know a shop that has handled such an issue before and have fixed it. Would be great to know how much it would cost as well.

I can't get a Maxis sim since Maxis don't have prepaid. The sim card that worked was the old Maxis and not the new Hotlink. Hotlink sim didn't work.

Please kindly advise what I can do to get it working. Atleast for another 6 months until S6 Edge price goes down.

Xbox 360s External Hard Drive

Hi fellow gamers,

I recently got a Xbox 360s as a gift. I tried to play Need for Speed Rivals and it said I need a Xbox 360 hard drive to be able to play. It didn't allow me to install into the 4GB internal memory space so I decided to buy a WD Elements 500GB external hard drive.

I read online that it has to be Fat32 format so I formatted the drive and plugged it in. Tried to format the drive using the xbox interface (System Settings -> Memory), and after it finished, it threw up an error stating it was below the recommended requirements (didn't understand why). But it showed that there was 32GB space free so I thought I'll give it a try since the game said it only needed 1.2GB.

I tried to run the game again and showed the hard drive as the source only for the game to reject it saying it needs an Xbox 360 hard drive. I don't understand this. So I can't use any external drive? It has to be some Xbox specific hard drive? If so, where am I supposed to get that in Malaysia?

I am disappointed with the difficulty I'm facing. Hope someone can help me figure this out.

Kind Regards,
Plague

Ordering games Internationally. Will I be charged?

My PS3 is configured to a EU PSN account. I can ofcourse subscribe to an Asian one. But I'd rather not manage 2 separate accounts.

So there's a game I want to buy (WWE 2K14). The DLCs in the game are region locked to the account's region you bought it through. Since my PSN is EU, it will only work on EU region of the disc. I found a seller in ebay who can ship it to Malaysia. But my question is on the customs.

How are the customs in Malaysia regarding this? Will I be charged anything if I get it delivered? Anyone have experience of ordering games Internationally? The price of the game is pretty cheap so it's a good deal. But I just don't want to face a huge customs bill for it.

Would appreciate if someone can give me some insight into this.

Unable to bootup. Help identify the problem pls?

Hi,

I posted a topic regarding NAS or Repair my PC earlier. Looking for specific advice on the repairing side.

I have an old PC. Quad Core processor with 8GB RAM. It was my old gaming PC but because I didn't use it, it broke I think. When I turn it on, the power turns on, fans starts spinning and that's it. There's no monitor display, not sure if hard disk is spinning (don't feel the spin when I touch it) and no sound. I tried the battery test by removing the battery and graphic card. No beeping noise. So I'm assuming it's the motherboard that broke or it could be the processor.

How else can I diagnose if it's a motherboard or processor problem? Or could it be something else?

Any advice is appreciated. I live far from LowYat so taking it there and back is a hassle. Want to see if I can repair it myself.

Thank you.
Plague

Fix PC or Buy NAS?

Hi,

I need advice on what to do.

No noise. So I'm assuming it's the motherboard that broke or it could be the processor.

Now I have the need to run a standalone media centre. Basically I need a device through which I can share my external hard drives (have 3 external hdd) and run torrent app. That's all. No other purposes. I bought Asus router for that purpose but the USB access of the hard drives are pretty slow compared to network transfer and streaming 1080p sometimes has trouble.

I thought about using this PC but then realized it's not working. So now I'm trying to decide if getting a motherboard/processor and getting it fixed is worth it or if I should buy something else. Any suggestions of any hardware that can satisfy my requirement at a relatively cheap price will be welcomed.

I really hope someone can give me valuable advice. I need to make up my decision soon.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Kind Regards,
Plague

WTB USB 3.0 NAS Adapter

Hi,

I am looking for 2 or 3 USB 3.0 NAS Adapters. I got a router with 2 USB ports and thought connecting my external drives through that will be a good approach. But sadly the speed is not that great and it's hanging up my router often (it's an ASUS router).

So now I need these NAS Adapters who can help me share the externals via the network without needing a PC to be running.

Anyone know where I can buy them? USB 3.0 if possible since all 3 HDDs are USB 3.0.

Would appreciate if someone can let me know where I can find this.

UPS Choice advice

I brought my UPS with the rest of my PC when I arrived in KL. It was working fine until last week when my power tripped and the UPS got shot. I suspect it's the battery. It is still under warranty but there's no point in sending it back because the cost of shipping will be a lot more.

So now I need to buy one here locally. And I need advice on the choice. I went with a 1200W one before. Now I'm wondering if I should go for the same or something lower since the prices of 1200W UPS in Malaysia seems to be much higher than what I bought the old one for.

My requirement is that it should be able to handle the following devices.
1) 1 gaming PC
2) 3 monitors
3) Speakers
4) 4 External HDDs
5) Playstation
6) Router

So I'm looking for a UPS that can handle the power demand of these devices and last atleast 5 minutes if the power goes down. And also, in situations of power surge, it should be able to handle it.

Anyone have suggestions on which UPS I should go for? Something cheap or reasonable would be great.

Looking for Redbull (Europe) Supplier

I have been drinking Redbull while I was in UK when I worked long hours. Now in Malaysia, I am finding it hard to find Redbull (Europe and not local version). They sell it in 7-11 (for 5.50 per can) but quite often, the one near Mid-Valley runs out of stock. There is another shop near MidValley KTM but they are selling at 6.80 per can.

I was wondering if anyone is/knows store managers or someone who can buy a case (if case is 12) or two (if case is 24) every month for me. I'm sure the price will be cheaper than buying it as single cans (5.50 per can). I would really appreciate it if someone can help me out with a supplier. I'll buy it every month regularly for atleast 2 years.

I know it's not that healthy. However, due to my work schedule and times I'm keeping up, I need regular source of energy to keep me active. I don't like Coffee or Tea so I'm left with energy drinks. From all the drinks I've tried, Redbull seems to be the right one for me. Less drowsy and more potent.

Please let me know if you are/know the right person. Thank you.

Myvi SE Gadgets

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a Myvi SE (2nd hand) as my 1st car in Malaysia. Plan to use it for 2-3yrs until I save money for the car I want to drive. However, I do want some essential gadgets in my Myvi.

My requirements are:
1) GPS system
2) Reverse Camera
3) Front sensors
4) Decent Audio system (optional as I haven't heard Myvi's audio system yet).
5) Any safety gadgets that is lacking in Myvi.

Can anyone let me know how much I should estimate this would cost me including installation? I would really appreciate knowing the expense in advance so I can budget for it. I don't want to spend a lot when I plan to sell the car in 2 years. But I think I'm going to need these until then.

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,
Plague

Just opened to check if it's working fine.

Picture: Have uploaded. Check below post.

Reason for sale: No need anymore. Got Shure instead.

I bought the same model earphone over an year ago. However, with wear and tear, it got damaged. So I sent it off for replacement and I was given this earphone instead. During that time, I bought a Shure earphone which I'm happy with so now I don't need this one. Only opened it once to check if it's working fully. Otherwise it's unused and in box.

The quality of the earphone is very good and it works really well. Need to be careful with the use of earphone as the cables are not that thick and gets damaged without proper care (what happened to me). However, it is worth buying it for the quality. It also includes the volume control and mic for iphone/ipod users.

You can read more about the earphones in the link below.

Item Description/Specs

Offer me your price.

Windows 8 Pro License Question for Company Laptops

Hi,

I am looking for someone who can assist me in clearing up the confusion. I was recently asked to install Windows 8 for company laptops. I had a few licenses I have purchased before (from Microsoft) so I used those licenses in the laptops.

Recently I had a chat with someone online who told me that BSA does not like it if we don't have the retail box of Windows 8. Is this true? Will it be a problem and did I waste my license on all the laptops that is going to have problems with BSA?

I personally didn't see any problem since the licenses are validated and genuine. Not cracked.

I was wondering if I should buy more licenses like that for other office laptops in the way I did before (through offers and deals) or if I am forced to get Retail packs only which costs a lot.

Ours is a small company with around 20 laptops now. So spending on retail pack for them didn't seem worth the hassle.

Please can someone help me understand what sort of predicament I'm facing if BSA comes for checking?

Kind Regards,
Plague

Average Salary Expectation for Software Engineer

Hi,

I'm curious about the salary range for Software Engineers in Malaysia. I'm a Software/Web Developer with 8 years of experience. I'm in KL on a work permit contract and I'll be negotiating my salary increment soon. I would like to know what kind of salary average others are getting so I can judge mine and discuss about increment.

I do not want to be disrespectful by going around the office staff asking them their salaries. So it would help me a lot if I can get what is generally accepted range in KL.

Thanks in advance.

Driving School Near Bukit OUG

Hi,

I live near Bukit OUG and I need to find a good driving school (with English speaking classes/teachers). I can't seem to find any in yellow pages and the phone numbers I received are all too far away.

Anyone know of any driving schools in my area who can pick me up and drop me off after? I would really like to get the license sorted out ASAP.

Kind Regards,
Plague

Advice on Headset Choice

Hi,

I'm looking for some advice on the choice of headset for office use. Let me list down my requirements.

- It should be Over the Ear Headset.
- I will listen to music so need to be decent for that.
- Must have Quality Mic for Skype calls.
- Price should be less than RM200.

Anyone have any advice? I found SteelSeries 3H V2 Gaming Headset (RM160) but I'm not sure on the music quality as it's specific for gaming. Good headphones in that range don't seem to have good Mic in them. Thought about Plantronics GameCom 367 but the online reviews say not to trust Plantronics products.

Please advice on an alternative option. I would really appreciate it.

Kind Regards,
Plague

Advice on Hardware & Choice

Hi,

Today my old desktop PC died on me. The power is coming to fan and other devices but PC is not booting up. Removed all hardware except Motherboard, Ram, PSU and CPU. Still didn't work. Removed Ram hoping it would beep. No noise. Removed CMOS battery. No noise. So only thing left is my CPU (with fan) and Motherboard connected to the PSU.

Chances are, motherboard is gone. Now this is my old gaming rig. I have a new one that I'm using as my main. This one I was using as my sub or alternative one as server. The processor is QuadCore Q6600 and Motherboard is Gigabyte. Both are outdated now and since I have a far superior PC, it's not something that is a concern.

But my question is, should I try to salvage it by replacing the Motherboard? Is it worth it with today's market? Or should I salvage the parts? I had a decent graphic card (Radeon Sapphire HD 4650) and 4GB DDR2 800MHz Ram in it. Also have a LG DVD-Writer and a LG DVD-Rom. Has a internal card reader which I never used.

Are the parts worth selling? Or should I just replace the Motherboard and continue using it as a spare PC?

If I should replace the Motherboard, where can I take it to get it done? Can I get it done in LowYat? I'm not a hardware tech so I don't know how to take the CPU from this motherboard and fit it into a different motherboard. Plus I still need to identify if it's a Motherboard of CPU issue. Don't know how to test that.

Anyone know in LowYat where I can get it tested? Or if selling it for spare parts is better option, how much can I get for the parts? I'm not looking for big. Just want it to be useful for someone instead of going to waste.

Any advice is appreciated.

Service Shop for Cleaning Hardware

Hi,

I need to find a cleaning shop that would do a good job on my hardware items. I need dust/stain cleaning of my keyboards (2 of them), laptop (internal cleaning for dust) and my mouse as well. I shipped all my gadgets and when they arrive, I noticed a lot of dust build up. I don't have the patience or skill to do proper cleaning so I would prefer to give it to a shop and get it cleaned.

Anyone know of a good reliable shop that won't break your things but do a good cleaning job for you? I would really appreciate some insight as I only arrived in Malaysia recently and don't know which shop is good in LowYat.

Thanks in advance

Kind Regards,
Plague

Does Armax or Gameshark work with Modded Slim PS2?

Hi,

Can someone tell me if any of the cheat devices work with Modded Slim PS2? I have a Slim PS2 with ModBo mod chip implemented (bought it as that). I was wondering if purchasing cheat devices such as Armax, Gameshark etc. would work on my system or not. Officially in their FAQ, they say it won't because they don't support piracy (Maybe it's said because of law restrictions) and if it works, then you're lucky. But I would like to know it from someone who uses it to tell me whether it works for them or not.

Thanks
Plague
