[WTA] Problem with LCD screen

hi all

need some sifu opinion regarding this issue on my LCD tv. in the past few weeks, i suddenly notice there's this dark beam of light coming out from the bottom of the screen (see photo).

was wondering what could be the cause of this symptom, and can it be fixed?

just to share. the TV is a Sharp Aquos and is under 3 years old (average use only about 2 hours per day).

any help or advice is much appreciated. thanks guys!

Streamyx filters/throttles FLV file downloads?

hi guys. need some help.

i am a streamyx 4mb user. i would just like to share my experience with everyone and hopefully we can confirm if my suspicions are correct. i noticed that 70-80% of the time, when i try to download a .flv file through a direct URL link, the transfer rate is ridiculously slow! usually around 10-30KB/sec. at first i thought it was an overall internet speed issue, but after running speed tests and downloading other file types i noticed that i was still getting full speed. it's only .flv file downloads that were being capped!

at point of writing, i'm only able to download the FLV file at around 25KB/sec but the non-FLV file is downloading at over 150KB/sec!! that's a huge difference!

however, this doesn't seem to happen all the time. i do get maximum download speed sometimes, but about 70-80% of the time the transfer rate will be capped. it is not an issue with the file hoster either. i've tested downloading other file types from mediafire and there is no speed problem. also tried downloading flv files from other sites eg. rapidshare, netload, etc. but as long as the file type is .flv the download transfer will be capped!

also, i tested on Unifi and there is no problem whatsoever. can download at full speed everytime! not sure why streamyx users are being regulated.

is anyone able to help with this issue? i download quite a lot of flv files and this is driving me nuts!

is it possible that Streamyx is deliberately filtering for .flv downloads and throttling the speed?

international downloads slow, but only on wireless

hi. i've been reading a lot about international downloads being slow or capped and i've noticed the same on my 4Mbps Streamyx connection as well. i've performed some speed tests and made an interesting discovery today that i wanted to share.

the following link is hosted on a local malaysian server.

when i download the file, i am able to achieve a transfer rate of over 200kb/s.

these other files below are all hosted on international servers.

when i download these files, the transfer rate is much slower and averages around 50-60kb/s. it definitely looks like international connections are being capped.

now here's the interesting part. these downloads were performed on a PC that was connected wirelessly to the router. so i decided to connect the PC directly to the router instead with an ethernet cable to see if there is any difference in speed.

for the file on the local server, the transfer rate was the same at over 200kb/s.

however, for the files on international servers there was a huge improvement! i suddenly noticed that i could achieve the same transfer rate as the local server at over 200kb/s. there was no longer any speed cap.

in case some of you are thinking it could be due to me having a bad wireless connection, my signal strength is "excellent" at 54Mbps and speedtest.net results to TM server is 4.3Mbps. i am also able to max out my bandwidth at around 450kb/s by downloading multiple files at the same time (single downloads are capped, but i can download many files at the same time to max out my bandwidth).

i'm a bit confused to what is actually going on here. is it possible that downloads from international servers are being capped but only on wireless connections and not on a wired (ethernet) PC? i tried to ping some international sites from both my wired and wireless PCs and the ping response were the same so there is no difference in latency.

is there any reason a wireless PC would have a slower connection to an international server than a wired PC?

this is kind of weird. hope somebody here might have an idea, or perhaps are experiencing the same thing.

appreciate if you could help me test and report your results.

** note: this test is only relevant if you have the following setup:
- running windows xp
- connected wirelessly to a router to access the internet

fyi, i am capped at 50-60kb/s when i try to download the file.

if you are experiencing the same speed limit as me, try connecting that same wireless PC to your router with an ethernet/LAN cable and switch off your wireless. try downloading the file again and see what transfer rate you get.

for me, once i connect with ethernet/LAN cable, the speed reaches up to 200kb/s.

hi. i am on a 4Mbps Streamyx line. i have a weird situation which i hope somebody here would be able to figure out and tell me what's going on.

i have 3 PCs connected to the internet through a router. i noticed that direct downloads (hotfile, fileserve, filesonic, etc.) on the 2 PCs that are connected to the router wirelessly are capped at about 50-60kbps/sec per download. just to clarify, i can still achieve 400kbps speed in total, but just that each download is capped at 50-60kbps.

however, on the PC that is connected directly to the router via ethernet cable i am able to download well over 150kbps per download.

any help is appreciated. i really want to solve this issue! thanks!
