Back in April, together with the cooperation of Synology which one of the most well-known name in Network Attached Storage (NAS), we have organized a giveaway that we called "Review and Make It Yours" in which several of our forumers were given the opportunity to test and review the Synology DiskStation DS216j NAS.

The winners have since came back with their feedback on the consumer-oriented NAS. So, here it is, the first review which came from [@RViN].

INTRO

So what exactly is a NAS? A network attached storage is basically a mini computer that serves as a shared storage unit on the network. Its usability can be expanded to get it to serve functions that are more diverse, typically as a file/application/media server on top of just being a storage or backup device.

Synology isn’t a stranger to those who know NAS, it’s been one of the major players in the NAS market for a while now. Today we’re gonna look at the Synology DiskStation DS216j. The ‘j’ in the model designates an entry level or budget oriented model meant for home and personal users. It does however come with Synology DiskStation Manager 6.0, the latest version of Synology’s NAS operating system.

ESWC Malaysia Qualifiers 2011

In cooperation with Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong Limited, we are going to have a little contest called “Lowyat.NET x PlayStation®Network Question of The Week” specially for you guys. Starting today, we will post up a question on Lowyat.NET's mainpage – www.lowyat.net – on every Thursday for the next five weeks which will test your knowledges of PlayStation®Network.

Up for grabs in this contest are copies of LIMBO and PSN vouchers on Week 1 - 4 as well as ~~one mystery prize that will be revealed on Week 5~~ a PlayStation®3 console or LIMBO specially for Week 5. Really didn't expect that PIKOM would actually agree to this (thank to Si_Jali for forwarding my suggestion) but here we are, a Forza Motosport 3 qualifier for WCG Asian Championship 2010! Pretty much the first local qualifier for Xbox 360 games since WCGAC's inception.

UPDATE #1

First, let me start with the fact that I've never played FM3 extensively before as my 360 has 3RODed long before the game was released. So, please pardon me if you found couple of my decision is rather n00bish-like.

Anyway, I borrowed the game today and I realized that FM3 doesn't support System Link. So, this means that we have to change the tourney format from 1vs1 to Time Trial.
Some might asked, why not Split Screen instead? Well, MK84 pointed out that the WCG rules stated that the scoring is set to time based. That's one...and 2nd reason is that, PIKOM still not able to obtain LCD TVs for the event.

As for the cars, I'll get back to you later once I able to explore the game further but you definitely can't use your own car. You are still allowed to tune them, though.

Heroes of Newerth (HoN) is an upcoming online strategy games developed by the US-based S2 Games. Fans might remember their older titles - Savage and Savage 2, which combined FPS and RTS into action-packed games. However, HoN is a totally different beast altogether, as it is heavily based on a very popular Warcraft 3 mod called Defense of The Ancients.

We knew we already got your attention whenever DoTA name is mentioned. HoN is currently under closed beta testing, we are giving away a number of test keys, courtesy of S2 Games, for all Lowyat.NET friends out there to test it out yourselves.

As for now, Go International is able to confirmed ONE Counter-Strike 1.6 team and ONE blogger will be going to DreamHack Winter 2009. More games might be announced on 1st August.

According to Jasmine, they are still working towards their ideal Team Malaysia contingent which is pretty huge - could easily involved more than 20 people from gamers, indie band and youth journalist. Jasmine also welcomes any individuals, bands or organization who are able to self-fund the trip, to be under the Team Malaysia banner.
