Macbook Air Battery Drain

Hi guys,

I bought a small Sandisk Cruzer Fit USB 3.0 thumbdrive to put into my macbook air to expand its storage space. But I realized that it doesn't go into standby like it used to even when I eject the disk (but leaving it there).

Any ideas on how to solve this? I googled but not much info, as though it is not a common problem and I might be having a problem elsewhere...
