anyone else watch kl gangster before?

i havent got to see the whole movie (planning to because the clips i saw are hilarious) but I've seen a lot of clips and something i noticed is all the gangsters are speaking in very chinese-melayu accent? They use a lot of hokkien loan words (Wa = saya, Lu = Kamu) etc and even spoke some random cantonese line here and there. My question is, are these gangsters supposed to be chinese or something? cause they're all malays actors and I'm curious as to why didn't the director just find some actual chinese actors because their accents and cantonese just sounds too hilarious for me to take seriously, unless if it was intended to be funny.

I saw some reddits threads asking if they were meant to be chinese but he only mentioned the way they talk, and everyone seems to think that this is just some "gangster talk", but they add so much hokkien/cantonese sentences that they just look like they're supposed to be chinese malay mixed or something?

some examples i found
youtu.be/Mlb7ctfuy_Y?si=nR1153eCvl3sPB6t

youtu.be/hh9141nNWXU?si=QwDl23nvMTuTE1fk
