ERCL and the Bentong Tunnel

Still can't understand why Wii insisted on routing the ECRL through Bentong.

Just the 16.3 km twin tunnels alone reportedly added another RM7–8 billion to the construction cost. Even got safety concern to the surrounding taman.

Why was he so determined to go through Bentong in ERCL 1.0 and 3.0 route. That's the part that still bewilders me. What so special about Bentong, whose land was that?

Chronology of the events

06 April 2024 - Onn Hafiz wanted Forestcity to be part of SEZ (Special economic zone)

10 July - A viral post in Instagram by account named Malaysia_protest_4_Palestine with title "Membongkar Projek Perkampungan Zionist di Johor Bahru" with 73k likes and 39k shares.

11-12 July - The Post was retweet heavily via Threads

13 July - MB Johor (Onn Hafiz) ordered probe into Forestcity NS with the investigation allegations of Israeli inside. He also said MBIP will review whether the license was compliance

14 July - Malaysian authorities inspected the campus on July 14 and checked hundreds of passports belonging to people from 40 countries, including dual-passport holders.

The Immigration Department later said all 266 foreign nationals inspected at Forest City possessed valid immigration documents based on its records.

15-16 July CEO of NS Balaji halt the USD$123m (RM500m) planned investment into Forestcity.

16-17 July - NS was temporary shutdown due to not comply of MBIP business licence.
