i was talking to a friend recently and we realised we've heard this line so many times after interviews:

"we'll keep your resume on file for future opportunities."

but honestly... has anyone here actually received a call months later because of that?

i don't think i ever have.

feels like it's just the polite version of rejection most of the time.

curious if anyone here has genuinely been contacted again without reapplying.

Curious because I saw someone say the only real pay raise nowadays is by changing companies.
What's the biggest jump you've personally gotten? 5%? 20%? 50%? Or doubled your salary?
Was it because you changed industry, got promoted, or simply switched employers?

My colleague got 25% salary increase by resigning

So one of my colleagues (my work bestie) asked for a salary raise twice, but the management said there's no budget, so he resigned and got a new job with better salary in another company.

Fast forward a month later; the company hired someone new for almost the same salary my previous colleague was asking for.

Why does it always feel easier to hire someone new than retain existing employees? It will also take some time to train the new employees; unlike the existing ones, they already know what they're doing.

Now this made me wonder whether loyalty is actually a punishment rather than rewarded. Anyone else seen this happen?
