air quality so bad but still expected to go work

just saw the news that the emergency declaration in serian has been lifted because the haze is getting better, but apparently the air quality is still not great and there are still health risks.

i was still expected to go to work during the bad haze days. maybe for most people it's just annoying, eyes itchy, throat dry, etc. but for people like me who have asthma, bad air quality is a completely different story.

i understand not every job can be done from home, especially those in retail, f&b, construction and all. but for office jobs that can literally be done with a laptop and internet connection, why are some companies still so strict about coming in when the air quality is bad?

this whole haze situation is making me consider looking for another job, preferably remote or at least hybrid this time. been browsing Bossjob, Indeed and Jobstreet lately and suddenly remote jobs look a lot more attractive than before.

maybe i'm just being dramatic, but health should come first right?

how are you guys dealing with the haze now? especially those in sarawak or areas with really bad air quality. are your companies allowing wfh, giving masks, or still business as usual and everyone kena go office?

job hunting

first time in physical job interview, tips pls!

usually when i apply for jobs through Bossjob, i tend to go for the virtual interview option since the platform has that feature, so most of my interview experience has been online.

for virtual interviews, i feel like i have a bit more confidence because i can keep some notes nearby. sometimes if they ask about something technical, i can quickly check my notes or search something up before answering. obviously not to completely fake my answers, but more like a guide in case my mind suddenly goes blank.

now this company i'm interviewing with wants to do a physical interview instead, and i realised i can't really rely on that anymore. my biggest concern is that i might actually know the answer, but because i'm nervous, i'll suddenly forget the technical terms or certain details and end up sounding like i don't know what i'm talking about.

for those who are more used to physical interviews, how do you prepare? do you memorise everything beforehand or just focus on understanding the topics properly?also, how early do you usually arrive for the interview, and are there any things you wish you knew before going for your first physical interview?

would appreciate some advice from people who have done plenty of these

hypothetical ah, not me promise lol what if tomorrow morning boss suddenly call everyone into meeting room and says 'guys, sorry. company closing' First thing you do what?

A) Panic and beg boss to not close
B) Calculate how long savings can survive
C) Immediately update resume
D) Start applying everywhere
E) Just rest and stay unemployed

most people might say they will immediately job hunt, but when it really happens maybe first few days just blank. then suddenly open 20 tabs: linkedin, jobstreet, indeed, bossjob, company career pages

if you were to switch careers for money, where would you go?

been thinking about changing careers lately. currently working in marketing, but honestly starting to feel like the salary progression is quite slow unless you move into management.

i'm still interested in the field, but also wondering whether i should switch into something with better earning potential. sales is one option i've been thinking about, especially since commission can potentially make a big difference.

for those who have been working for a few years already, what jobs/industries do you think have the best salary progression?

not asking about “get rich quick” jobs more like careers where you can realistically start at a decent salary and potentially reach RM10k, RM15k, RM20k+ with experience.

if you could restart your career today purely based on earning potential, what would you choose?

So one of my colleagues (my work bestie) asked for a salary raise twice, but the management said there's no budget, so he resigned and got a new job with better salary in another company.

Fast forward a month later; the company hired someone new for almost the same salary my previous colleague was asking for.

Why does it always feel easier to hire someone new than retain existing employees? It will also take some time to train the new employees; unlike the existing ones, they already know what they're doing.

Now this made me wonder whether loyalty is actually a punishment rather than rewarded. Anyone else seen this happen?
