A Korean mother was born with blue eyes, and so is her daughter. The mother was called "the devil's eye," and forced to wear black contact lenses throughout her adolescence. The daughter was called "dog eyes" and ostracized. The father considered sending his daughter to study abroad because bullying in South Korea is so severe.

The mother went on television to plead with people to stop bullying her children, saying, "We are not monsters; please treat us like human beings."

From a young age, the mother was mocked as a cat, a ghost, a devil. She was born this way but no one accepted her, which made her introverted and withdrawn. When her daughter was in elementary school, the teacher called her parents to the school, saying they should have her wear glasses to cover her blue eyes, even though they were normal. In adolescence, she had to wear contact lenses and endure eye infections, because it was better than being bullied.
