http://forum.lowyat.net/ Sat, 11 Jul 2026 14:11:57 +0800 FeedCreator 1.7.2 http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/483932 Hi Network Gurus, hope someone can show me some light here....<br /><br /><b><u>Simplified Network setup:</u></b><br />Location A (<span style='color:blue'>LA</span>) has Servers, PCs+Printers+Point of Sales (<span style='color:blue'>3P</span>)<br />Location B (<span style='color:blue'>LB</span>) has Servers and <span style='color:blue'>3P</span><br />Locaton C (<span style='color:blue'>LC</span>) has <span style='color:blue'>3P</span><br /><br /><span style='color:blue'>LA</span>, <span style='color:blue'>LB</span> and <span style='color:blue'>LC</span> has fibre link to Fibre Exchange (<span style='color:blue'>FE</span>)<br />So if <span style='color:blue'>LA </span>to transfer data to <span style='color:blue'>LB</span>, it will go from <span style='color:blue'>LA </span>to <span style='color:blue'>FE </span>to <span style='color:blue'>LB</span>.<br />For all locations to access internet, all go through <span style='color:blue'>FE</span>.<br /><br /><b><u>Problem:</u></b><br />From time to time, a single PC or Server will be disconnected to <span style='color:blue'>FE</span>. When this happens, local access is OK, but anything going thru <span style='color:blue'>FE </span>is not possible.<br />Eg. PC in <span style='color:blue'>LA </span>failed, that fault PC (<span style='color:blue'>FPC</span>) can ping locally to all <span style='color:blue'>LA </span>devices but not to <span style='color:blue'>LB </span>nor <span style='color:blue'>LC </span>nor the internet. Nor can <span style='color:blue'>LB </span>and <span style='color:blue'>LC </span>see <span style='color:blue'>FPC</span>.<br />This issue happens to any PC/Servers anytime. But so far only notice one at a time. When this happens, it takes from 30min to 24hrs for <span style='color:blue'>FPC </span>to auto reconnect.<br /><br /><b><u>Test carried out:</u></b><br />1) Connect to other network ports for <span style='color:blue'>FPC </span>did not solve problem<br />2) Connected "faulty port" to good PC and it works<br />3) Changing a totally new switch (to fibre link) but problem not solved<br />4) Called up fibre link provider and they say problem not on their side<br />5) Took <span style='color:blue'>FPC </span>to different location and it works<br /><br />This sounds more like <span style='color:blue'>FE </span>problem but we are not able to get provider to admit that and when they sent technician over, the problem has resolved itself.<br />If <span style='color:blue'>FE </span>block MAC address of <span style='color:blue'>FPC</span>, why <span style='color:blue'>FPC </span>works if moved to different location and not work when put back?<br /><br />Anyone can tell me if any unique key is collected at <span style='color:blue'>FE </span>from individual PC to cause this problem?
