Anyone Get Flash Message?

Just got a flash message from NADMA on the phone. Dont think i have every got such thing before. Some sort of emergency transmission? Its not a SMS or notification but just started flashing across the phone.

I am a bit of a luddite. I have been pushing off doing eKYC for as long as I can. I come from a generation that say must be very careful with your IC, dont simply2 give out. So, up to now, I have avoided doing any form of eKYC that is done online (selfie with IC).

But now it seems that i might be at an impase. For one, BUDI95. Mau pakai SETEL, which I have been using all this while, means I need to do eKYC. For SARA also, need to hand my IC to the kaunter, but at least I mitigate by choosing to go to big box stores only. Recently had to use a service which required eKYC, so instead I had to go one big circle to get it done. Had to send money somewhere overses also, but services like WISE require eKYC. Before, I used to get around it by using my driving lesen when ID proof was needed, but now itu pun tak boleh.

Its becoming a point that its becoming more than a minor inconvenience. Eventually, I might have to cross the bridge and get it done. I also am aware that most of our data is already out there, but still.

So, how do I convince myself to move with times? Are my concerns valid?

I am fully expecting to get mocked, but I would appreciate some genuine feedback along with the remarks.

Kereta Accident

I just got into an accident at the toll booth. We langgar just before the toll booth. Can agree on whose fault it is so we say ok go police station.

Waiting for police to attend to us, but it's a long wait.

So, what should I do? What are the things that I need to prepare for?

My car is 2 years plus, so it's still under warranty. Looks like body damage, can't open the driver door fully, the wheel got scrapped as well, so might have some damage there. Driving is ok, except when going on bump can hear slight creaking. Must I send it to proton or can I send to my local shop. I know proton is notorious for long waits, especially body work.

Starting A Freelance Business from Home

As per title, are there any legal issues with starting a business from home? Looking at registering a business as a sole proprietor. The nature of the business would be fully online with no meeting of clients at home (Writing Services). Even the mailing address would be a PO Box. No employee, just me as freelancer looking to legitimise my work since will be doing it sort of full time.

Tax wise got no issue. Just wanted to know regarding using the residential address. If I do not claim utilities or what not as expenses then shouldn’t be a problem, right?

When registering at for the account at SSM, I did ask the clerk at the reception if as a freelancer can I use my home address. She ask if tak ada office ke, I said no, and she said boleh register Alamat rumah.

If no issues, then good. But if cannot, then what are my options? Co-working space or virtual offices? Hopefully boleh, since I am just starting so want to keep down cost.

Data/Stats on Malaysia?

Asking those who know. Where o you get your stats and data about Malaysian things? Like Crime rate, public service hiring and so on?

OpenDOSM does have it, but seems limited. Was interested in looking into certain aspects of malaysian, looking at breakdowns by age, gender, race and so on.

Any insights?

Advice for Career Transitions

I have a bio based postgraduate degree (lab based) and have been working in a science publication role for the past 5 to 6 years. Unfortunately, I seem to be out of a job now (1 month plus), maybe due to my own shortsightedness and getting too comfortable in my previous job. Anyway, I seem to be having trouble landing a job here, be it in the science, academia or related industries. Still not giving up on finding the right job, what ever that is.

Reading up on this AI stuff and all is kind of making me wonder if someone in my position would still be relevant in the coming years. Plus seeing Singapore gov giving subsidy or insentive to upskill in AI or related fields makes me realise this is something that cannot be ignored for long.

Any advice for me? Should I consider a change in career to something that is more relevant to the current trends, ie data analytics? What can I do to upskill myself to keep myself relevant?

Abandon Property

I have a close relative who bought a house around 20 years ago. Was a new development at that time. But the house has not been lived it at all. From the time they bought it to now, tak pernah duduk dekat rumah, just went a couple of times to look at the house but nothing was done. Kunci all was taken, put padlock but nothing after that. Fast forward to current day, the couple have longed moved to another state.

Now comes the problem. The couple are now reitired and too old to travel outstation to settle this problem. Loan sudah bayar but have not even transfer the title yet. I have to help because they a quite a close relative, but I am clueless on what to do. They want to sell the house off as is and get rid of the problem. They dont want to or can renovate and sell it.

I google map the place and it seems someone might be squating there; the outside does not look to be too bad, broken windows and what not, but not like haunted house abandon.

My question is what should I do? Do I get a real estate agent to handle it? Will they even layan?

FYI, I too am out of state, so travelling is quite troublesome due to work commitments.

Any direction would be much appreciated.

Laptop Service Experince

Looking to buy a laptop. Was wondering how the experince at service centre is? Have only owned a Acer laptop before this, but no experince with other brands.

Acer now a bit more expensive so looking at other brands also. Lenovo online store seems to have good discount but I dont know about their service.

Any thoughts?
