Previously I opened a thread asking for help with my fried mobo but it looks like its futile in trying to get that build revived. I have decided to leave that idea completely as its just wasting my money and my time. Decided to go with some forumer's suggestion of getting a new CPU / mobo which I think is the best decision given the hopeless situation I am in. I am DONE with it. THANK YOU to everyone who responded kindly, I really appreciate that. But now;

I am thinking of getting a lower cost mobo (A320 mobo that supports 3 displays)

and pair it with

an AMD APU (i.e. AMD Athlon 3000g).

Its strictly for work and not gaming but I need to hook up 3 monitors.

the ISSUE is: Will this setup work? Can the Athlon 3000g support the 3 displays?

I know the mobo does, but will the APU support?

Hi Sifus,

I have a big dilemma,

I built a new PC some 9 months ago and its been working fine all these while until about a month ago.

While I took a nap on a Sunday, I woke up and found that my PC was powered off by itself. After that I tried and tried but in vain. I could not ON the PC no matter what I tried.

Here is what I did for troubleshooting,

Suspected plug fuse/ power cord
1. Changed the power cord plug fuse - didn't turn ON.
2. Tried a different power outlet - didn't turn ON.
3. Changed to a different known working power cord - didn't turn ON.

Suspected something happened inside casing
4. Opened the casing and found nothing a miss, all seems normal. NO burning smell etc. No loose wire or connector etc. Pressed all the 24 pin ATX plug hard into the mobo connector and did the same with the 8 pin CPU connector. Still didn't turn ON.

Suspected the power switch on casing
5. Removed the connectors from case power switch to the motherboard connector pins and used a screwdriver to connect the pins - didn't turn ON.

Suspected other connected parts in the mobo
6. Reseated RAMS - didn't turn ON.
7. Changed the CMOS battery to a brand new one (although the replaced one was also brand new as it was a new build) - didnt turn ON.

Suspected RAMS
8. Removed the RAMS and fixed 1 by 1 in each slots X4 and tried - still didn't turn ON.

Suspected PSU
9. Ordered a new PSU - higher rating @ EVGA 600w 80+ Gold (he previous one was a brand new Cooler master Thermaltake 550w 80+ Bronze) and then replaced the PSU - still didn't turn ON.

Suspected Mobo
10. Ordered a new mobo and replaced it. Managed to turn ON for 5 seconds and then died immediately. New mobo = Gigabyte b450m S2H rev1.1. The old mobo = msi b450m Mortar Max.

When I replaced the PSU and then the mobo - I expected the PC to turn ON but still it didnt and I dont know why. A few weeks earlier there were heavy thunderstorms around my area - I do use a power surge but even then 1 of my monitors will sort of flicker a bit. Then I will shut down my PC just to be safe. I have no idea what is wrong.

What could have killed my new mobo within 5 seconds?
This is the question that no one is able to answer. The parts used for the build was 100% new except for 1 HDMI adapter which I had bought 10 year ago but never used. I am wondering if that adapter is the culprit that has damaged my PC till like this. As I was at my wit's end and I don't know what else to do I brought it to a nearby computer shop. The guy took a look at it and did some simple test and found that there is no sufficient output from the mobo. However he doesn't know why it happened. Neither do I. How did the first mobo die? what killed it? Then when I replaced the PSU and then a new mobo also, that new mobo only lived for 5 seconds. What is killing the mobo? I really dont know what the issue is. This issue is BEYOND me. Even beyond the computer repair shop who has given up on my PC. Really appreciate some guidance from all the Sifus.

It turned out that the old PSU when I tested it using a paper clip it was turning ON, so it turned out it was NOT the PSU. But something else keeps killing the mobo. Any ideas what it is Sifus?

Here is the specs of the PC that I built using new parts except for that 1 HDMI to VGA adapter that was never used previously (but I had it for like 10 years)
