beli dari Shopee lagi mahal?

Seems like brands are moving away from ecommerce platforms due to the recent platform fees hike by increasing the price on Shpee/Lazapee/Tiktkpee directly to cover fees.

so beli direct store or website lagi murah ni.

Good marketing from 70mai and more brands should do this marketing so consumer know where to buy for cheaper.

1700+ Online sellers join to fight Shopee & Lazada

QUOTE

Kuala Lumpur, June 6 – Around 1,700 e-commerce sellers in Malaysia have recently launched a petition urging the government to intervene and regulate new policies and fee structures imposed by e-commerce platforms. The sellers claim that the current practices have significantly increased their operating costs and severely impacted the survival of small and medium-sized businesses.

Representing the e-commerce sellers dealing in camping equipment, Mr. Tan Jian Kun, accompanied by DAP Selangor Public Complaints Bureau Director and Deputy Director, Lim Wen Bin, submitted several demands this morning along with over ten other seller representatives. Among their requests are a call for the platform to publicly explain the basis of newly introduced charges and to carefully assess the impact on SMEs.
Mr. Tan pointed out that Shopee recently announced the introduction of a new "platform handling fee" effective July 16. This is in addition to the existing transaction fees, service fees, and rising commission rates, making it increasingly difficult for sellers to absorb these costs.

“For example, if we sell a pen for RM1, we already have to pay a commission of 12 sen (11.88%, including SST), and on top of that, a new platform handling fee of 54 sen (also including SST),” he said.
“If the order includes a RM10 shipping fee, the platform also charges an additional fee of 42 sen. This results in a net loss of 8 sen on the order. Just the associated costs of selling a single pen already account for over 60% of the selling price — not even counting packaging and labor. In the end, we’re paying out of pocket to be on the platform.”
Mr. Tan emphasized that as of 5 p.m. yesterday, more than 1,700 sellers had signed the online petition opposing the new policy. A WhatsApp group formed by sellers has already gathered over 700 members, indicating strong grassroots dissatisfaction with the new system.

He further revealed that in addition to the newly imposed per-order handling fee, Shopee's commission rates have increased several times since 2023 — from an initial 2.5%–4% to the current 9.72%–16.2%, nearly a fourfold increase in just two years.
Tan also criticized the "Buy Now, Pay Later" (SPayLater) service, where the system sometimes auto-selects this option without sellers' consent, resulting in an extra 1.08% fee borne by the seller, even though it does not go through a third-party payment gateway. He urged a review of this charge.
Additionally, Tan highlighted that the platform’s delivery deadlines and logistics requirements are too rigid. Orders placed before 12 p.m. must be shipped out the same day, putting enormous pressure on small sellers. Failure to comply results in penalties and a drop in store rankings.

He also mentioned that some services like Cash on Delivery (COD) are automatically enabled by the system, with no option for sellers to opt out. If a buyer refuses to accept the package, sellers have to bear the full cost of shipping and packaging, and repeated complaints often go unresolved.

Tan expressed frustration with the dispute resolution system for issues such as lost packages, returns, and weight discrepancies.
“Many sellers must go through complicated appeal processes for lost packages, and success rates are extremely low — often, sellers even have to compensate the shipping costs themselves.”
Another major concern, he added, is malicious buyers—those who make unreasonable returns or leave bad reviews without cause. There is currently no mechanism for sellers to block or blacklist such buyers, causing repeated losses for small businesses.

Lastly, Tan noted that Lazada has also recently announced a hike in its commission fees, effective July 18, to a maximum of 20%, and will now include previously optional promotional campaign fees as mandatory, removing sellers’ ability to opt out and forcing them to absorb even more costs.

He urged the government to seriously review the cooperation model between e-commerce platforms and sellers, regulate platform fees and operational mechanisms, and introduce better oversight and coordination measures. This is crucial to ensure a healthy, transparent, and sustainable e-commerce ecosystem — one where small and medium sellers have a fair opportunity to survive and grow.

QUOTE

Petition: https://chng.it/2w6ffx6p5P

https://www.orientaldaily.com.my/news/natio...25/07/06/745024

shopee will uturn ke?
