They are seeking travel documents after leaving scam operations. Embassy security claimed only a few were former scam workers, with most applying for tourist visas.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun confirmed the situation, saying the embassy is communicating and coordinating with Cambodian authorities. China and Cambodia have cooperated closely against telecom fraud, achieving significant results.

The crackdown has affected Cambodia's tourism, with many Chinese travelers wary. The Cambodian Tourism Ministry and industry will launch a major campaign to counter negative information and plans a visa-free trial for mainland Chinese, Hong Kong and Macau passport holders from June 15 to October 15.

Cambodia recently arrested major fraud figures, including Chen Zhi and Huang Jimao, owner of the notorious "Royal Paradise" compound in Sihanoukville. Authorities pledge continued strict enforcement to eliminate telecom fraud and restore Cambodia's international image.

Source:
https://www.thestandard.com.hk/china-news/a...-scam-compounds
https://www.mk.co.kr/en/world/11937803
https://www.sinchew.com.my/news/20260120/in...ational/7202903

There they found a crashed Mercedes-Benz car and a blindfolded woman, Yang Wang, wrapped in adhesive tape and lying on the floor behind the front seats.

The 35-year-old woman told police she got to know a Chinese man named Gong Gaopeng, 30, via the WeChat platform, and he promised to show her a house for sale.

She drove her car to pick him up on Sukhumvit Pattaya 59 Road about 7.37pm on Sunday. At the housing estate the man showed her a house, and Ms Yang said she decided to buy it.

As she was driving out of the housing estate the man, who was sitting in the back seat, reached over and threatened her with a pair of scissors pointed at her waist. He ordered her to drive to the rear of the housing estate. She did.

After she stopped the man wrapped her up with adhesive tape. He took her mobile phone and forced her to give him a password. The man then used the phone to transfer 6,996 yuan (31,469 baht) from her WeChat account to his account, she said.

At that moment, another person approached and told them they could not park the car there. The Chinese man was in the driver’s seat and tried to speed off, but instead crashed into a fence. The man then got out of the car and fled the scene, Ms Yang told police.

The police investigation was continuing.

PRC won't bluff PRC
中国人不骗中国人？

Source:
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/genera...rashed-mercedes
Why SEA's Scam Industry Is So Hard to shut down?

Why Southeast Asia’s Online Scam Industry Is So Hard to Shut Down

Kuala Lumpur. Cambodia’s arrest and extradition of a powerful tycoon accused of running a vast online scam network marks a rare strike against an industry that has stolen tens of billions of dollars worldwide. US and British authorities say Chen Zhi led a transnational criminal enterprise that exploited trafficked workers and defrauded victims across the globe.

For victims, the scams often start small: a text offering a part-time job, asking about weekend availability, or simply saying “hello.” On the other end is often a laborer halfway around the world, forced to work 12- to 16-hour days, sending message after message until someone responds.

The human toll is immense. Hundreds of thousands of people are believed to be trapped in forced labor, housed in sprawling compounds across Southeast Asia and compelled to run scams whose sole purpose is to take money.

Even with a high-profile arrest, dismantling the industry remains extraordinarily difficult. Here’s why:

QUOTE

The Crackdown in Myanmar

The Myanmar military last October moved into one of the most notorious scam compounds — the massive KK Park along the border with Thailand — and announced it had shut the operation down. Yet work has continued uninterrupted at other scam centers in Myanmar, where people trafficked from around the world still await rescue.

The raid triggered a mass flight of workers. About 1,500 laborers crossed into Thailand, including hundreds from India and citizens of China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Ethiopia, and Kenya. Thai military officials later said troops demolished several structures inside the sprawling complex.

KK Park was only one of dozens of such centers along the Thai-Myanmar border — and hundreds more scattered across Southeast Asia — highlighting how easily the industry shifts operations when under pressure.

Emerging from Casinos and Illegal Gambling

Scam compounds are often sprawling complexes in rural areas, complete with sleeping quarters, shops, and entertainment venues for workers. Developers typically build a single property and lease space to multiple companies, allowing numerous operations to run side by side.

Many operate with the protection of local elites. Smaller setups also exist, tucked into a single floor of a legitimate office building or even a rented house in an urban neighborhood.

The centers trace their roots to casinos — both physical and online — that proliferated across Southeast Asia over the past decade. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime counted more than 340 licensed and unlicensed casinos in the region in 2021.

Those casinos, often paired with junket tours, catered to high-rollers from China, where gambling is illegal, and were frequently run by Chinese criminal groups.

When the COVID-19 pandemic and strict travel restrictions cut off customers, some online casinos pivoted. With revenue drying up, operators shifted to a new model: using the same infrastructure and labor to defraud targets worldwide through digital scams.

Relying on Both Trafficked and Willing Labor

An estimated 120,000 people in Myanmar are being forced to work in online scam operations, along with another 100,000 in Cambodia, according to a 2023 report by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The figures are rough estimates, but investigators say scam centers rely on a mix of trafficked victims and workers who arrive willingly — lured by false promises of relatively high pay and easy office jobs.

Early on, most workers came from China and Chinese-speaking countries. Today, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime says laborers are recruited from at least 56 countries, ranging from Indonesia to Liberia.

For many, the reality is far harsher than advertised. Workers say their passports are often confiscated to prevent escape. Only senior managers and trusted lieutenants are allowed to move freely. Those who fail to meet targets risk beatings or other physical punishment.

A Global Scourge

Scammers cast a wide net, targeting victims around the world and increasingly relying on artificial intelligence-powered translation tools to overcome language barriers.

In the Philippines, authorities raided a compound in March 2024 where workers targeted Chinese nationals with a fake investment scheme. Using scripted messages, scammers posed as senior employees of the state-owned China National Petroleum Corp. and persuaded victims to invest in crude oil futures, according to a script seen by The Associated Press.

Elsewhere, the impact has been just as far-reaching. Last year, about 50 South Koreans were repatriated from Cambodia after being arrested over several months on allegations they worked for online scam operations.

US prosecutors have also targeted the networks behind the schemes. In an indictment against Chen last year, prosecutors said his organization scammed at least 250 Americans out of millions of dollars, including one victim who lost $400,000 in cryptocurrency. Americans lost at least $10 billion to scams tied to Southeast Asia in 2024 alone, according to the US Treasury Department.

Cambodian authorities said Wednesday that Chen and two other Chinese citizens were extradited to China on Tuesday. Chen holds dual nationality, and his Cambodian citizenship was revoked in December, authorities said.

The scams take many forms, ranging from cryptocurrency investment schemes to so-called “task scams,” in which victims are asked to pay to unlock the next assignment. In some cases, small sums are paid out early to build trust before losses escalate.

Scammers often manufacture urgency, warning targets they will miss out on an opportunity unless they invest by a specific deadline.

Despite government crackdowns and raids that have freed some workers and shut down individual compounds, activists say those behind the operations largely remain untouched. New scam centers continue to surface across Southeast Asia and beyond.

A United Nations report last year said scammers have extracted billions of dollars using fake romantic relationships, bogus investment pitches, and illegal gambling schemes, with operations reported as far away as Africa and Latin America.

“If we only rescue the victims and don’t arrest anybody — especially the Chinese mafia and transnational syndicates — then there will be no point,” said Jay Kritiya, coordinator of the Civil Society Network for Victim Assistance in Human Trafficking.

“They can get more victims. They can scam anytime,” Kritiya said.

Source:
https://jakartaglobe.id/news/why-southeast-...rd-to-shut-down

635 scams, gambling buildings demolished in KK Park

The Myanmar government has systematically cleared and demolished illegal buildings used for online scams and gambling activities in the Shwe Kokko and KK Park areas, where such crimes were most concentrated, according to official sources. Joint task forces have carried out thorough inspections, systematically destroyed confiscated equipment used in online scam and gambling operations and demolished illegal structures.

Yesterday, authorities demolished the remaining two illegal buildings in Section II of the Myawady–Maehtawthalay (KK Park) area. Section II originally contained 62 illegal buildings, and the final two four-storey structures have now been brought down.

As a result, all illegal buildings used for online scam and gambling activities in KK Park have been completely demolished, including 148 buildings in Section I, 62 in Section II and 425 in Section III, bringing the total number of demolished illegal buildings to 635. The demolitions were carried out using controlled blasting methods as well as heavy machinery.

In addition, to ensure the destruction of structures already brought down by machinery, further demolition using fire barrels has been underway since 14 December. In Section III of KK Park, a further five two-storey illegal buildings were destroyed yesterday, bringing the total number of buildings fully destroyed in that section to 121. Officials said the remaining illegal buildings would continue to be destroyed using the same method.

The government has stated that eradicating online scams and gambling activities is a national responsibility and has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that such crimes cannot take root anywhere in Myanmar. Authorities will continue coordinated efforts with domestic forces, as well as with the governments of neighbouring countries, to eliminate online scams and gambling operations. — MNA/KZL

Source:
https://www.gnlm.com.mm/635-illegal-buildin...hed-in-kk-park/

Their Chinese passports had also been revoked.

Investigators said the suspects had registered Jihui (Hainan) Enterprise Management Consulting Co in China and launched a campaign to solicit funds from the public without authorisation.

They promised high returns by investing in shares of companies preparing for initial public offerings (IPOs) within the next three to five years. To bolster credibility, they developed an investment app called Jihui Jinfu, guaranteeing annual returns of no less than 12%.

The investigation found that the scheme attracted more than 8,000 investors, causing losses estimated at 1.6 billion yuan or 7 billion baht.

Investigators said the fraudsters created a convincing image of legitimacy, claiming to invest in pre-IPO stocks of high-potential firms. Victims were told that once the companies went public, share prices would soar, multiplying their investments.

However, funds transferred through the app were never invested. Instead, they were controlled by the company’s finance department and the three ringleaders: Mr Yang oversaw daily operations, Mr Li handled marketing and client acquisition, and Mr Wang managed finance and administration.

When the time came to pay returns, the company failed to deliver, leaving investors empty-handed.

The three suspects later fled China and travelled to several countries before entering Thailand, where they hid in different provinces. Investigators also found they attempted to deceive authorities by applying for student visas, claiming they had come to Thailand to study.

Chinese authorities later revoked the suspects’ travel documents and coordinated with Thai authorities, leading to their arrest.

During questioning, Mr Li denied involvement, claiming he was merely a nominee account holder, Thai police said.

Mr Yang and Mr Wang said that they had kept a very low profile in Thailand, living in a condominium, rarely going out or socialising, and stockpiling supplies in their rooms to avoid detection.

Thai authorities have revoked their permission to stay in the kingdom and issued deportation orders. The suspects are being detained pending deportation to China.

Source:
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/genera...investment-scam
https://www.nationthailand.com/news/general/40061025

Chinese bookings at Japan hotels surge for CNY

Chinese bookings at Japan hotels surge for Lunar New Year despite tensions

Reservations up 57% from previous year thanks mostly to individual travelers

TOKYO -- Hotel reservations in Japan by Chinese tourists have boomed for the Lunar New Year holiday in February, according to the latest industry data, even amid a diplomatic dispute that has caused Beijing to advise its citizens from traveling to Japan.

Bookings from China between Feb. 15 and Feb. 23 have risen 57% from the previous Lunar New Year break, which ran from Jan. 28 to Feb. 4 in 2025, according to reservation management platform Tripla. The data is based on 1,727 hotels in Japan.

In addition, Nikkei surveyed 10 Japanese hotel operators about Lunar New Year bookings as of Dec. 15. Only two operators, Tokyu Hotels & Resorts and Imperial Hotel, reported a decline, with both dropping roughly 10%.

Meanwhile, three hotel operators reported increases. Palace Hotel said reservations have doubled on the year.

Five operators said reservations have not changed significantly.

Five out of the 10 operators reported a rise in the average daily rate for rooms. According to Tripla, the average daily rate for the Lunar New Year break will climb to 22,004 yen ($140), or 21% higher compared with the year-earlier holiday.

"Snow started falling early this year, and demand for skiing from around the world is pushing up overall unit prices," said Tripla CEO Kazuhisa Takahashi.

Following Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's remarks in November regarding a potential Taiwan contingency, the Chinese government urged Chinese citizens to refrain from traveling to Japan.

During anti-Japan protests in China sparked by Tokyo's nationalization of the Senkaku Islands in 2012, a series of group tours to Japan were canceled. At one point, monthly Chinese travelers fell by more than 40% compared with a year earlier.

However, some analysts say the impact this time around will be limited due to increased individual travelers from China. Compared with group tours organized by travel agencies, individuals are less susceptible to the influence of Chinese government policies.

"The proportion of group tours by Chinese visitors to Japan, which used to account for around 50% of arrivals from this market, has fallen to 15.6%, indicating that the inbound market has become more resilient to changes in diplomatic relations," CBRE, the global real estate services group, said in a note.

The Lunar New Year holiday will start roughly three weeks later than the 2025 break. Although Beijing's guidance to refrain from travel to Japan is casting a shadow over hotels that typically accommodate group tourists, the holiday tends to have many last-minute bookings.

"It's too early to make a judgement," said a representative from Hankyu Hanshin Hotels, sharing the view of hotels taking a wait-and-see approach.

Source:
https://asia.nikkei.com/business/travel-lei...spite-tensions2

Zhu has remained silent, investigative sources said.

The woman in her 30s, a manager of an aesthetic salon, was stabbed in four places, including her chest and stomach, around 12:10 p.m. Monday. The victim was conscious when she was sent to hospital and is not in a life-threatening condition, police said.

Police believe the two are acquainted as she had told them that the man is a customer at the salon. Police are looking into the motive for the attack as there is information that the man had troubles with the salon over payments for services.

After the attack, the suspect fled the scene by taxi and train. Police found him at a restaurant in the city of Chiba on Monday night.

The site of the incident is about 200 meters southwest of Takadanobaba Station, and is located in a residential area.

Source:
https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/12/3...obaba-stabbing/
https://www.sinchew.com.my/news/20251230/in...ational/7148909
日新宿刺人案中籍男落网-疑欠美容院钱袭击店长

China repatriates 952 telecom fraud suspects

China repatriates 952 telecom fraud suspects from Myanmar's Myawaddy region

The Ministry of Public Security announced on Thursday that 952 Chinese telecom fraud suspects were repatriated to China from Myanmar's Myawaddy region, as law enforcement authorities from China, Myanmar and Thailand have launched a new joint crackdown on cross-border gambling and telecom fraud.

The ministry noted that a ministerial-level coordination mechanism for combating transnational telecom fraud was established among the three countries earlier this year, paving the way for a series of coordinated raids. Since October, Myanmar has carried out a new round of targeted operations in Myawaddy and its surroundings in line with prior tripartite agreements, focusing on apprehending suspects and dismantling illegal fraud and gambling compounds.

On Dec 15, a joint task force of police from the three nations conducted an on-site inspection of major fraud hubs in Myawaddy. The team assessed crackdown progress and mapped out follow-up measures covering further raids, joint control, and expedited suspect repatriation.

From Dec 16 to 19, the ministry coordinated public security bureaus in Jilin and Henan provinces to escort the apprehended suspects back to China.

According to the ministry, tripartite cooperation has led to the repatriation of over 7,600 Chinese nationals involved in online gambling and telecom fraud in Myawaddy since the start of this year.

Source:
https://www.chinadaily.com.cn/a/202512/25/W...866eb30794.html
https://macaubusiness.com/952-chinese-telec...ed-from-myanmar

Another China-made battle tank VT-4 exploded

"Analysts pointed out that the VT-4 tank involved in the incident reportedly fired approximately 200 shells during two days of combat. Given that the theoretical barrel life of a VT-4 tank is 500 to 600 rounds, analysts believe the accident may be related to manufacturing defects regarding the durability of the gun barrel."

Context of the News
The article (published December 24, 2025) discusses a recent military incident involving a Chinese-made VT-4 Main Battle Tank operated by the Royal Thai Army.

According to reports from the Thai-Cambodian border:

The Incident: A VT-4 tank suffered a "barrel explosion" (or "bore evacuation failure") during active combat operations.

The Technical Issue: While the tank was engaging targets, the main gun barrel reportedly ruptured or shattered.

The Debate: There is a conflict between "operational fatigue" and "manufacturing quality." The Thai military initially noted the tank had been under high-intensity use, but analysts (as seen in your translated text) argue that 200 rounds is well below the expected lifespan of 500–600 rounds, suggesting the steel or construction might have been flawed.

Casualties: Reports indicate that three Thai crew members were injured in the blast, which also damaged the tank's sensitive fire control and laser warning systems.

The Royal Thai Army’s Ordnance Department is currently conducting a formal investigation to determine if the failure was caused by the ammunition, the barrel’s material quality, or the extreme heat from rapid firing.

Source: https://www.sinchew.com.my/news/20251224/in...ational/7137847

The tank was in action when the damage happened, leaving its barrel shattered, rendering the vehicle combat ineffective while on the line of fire, reports said.

During the mishap, it was not just the main armament of the tank that was damaged but its laser warning system, as well as fire control and targeting systems, also took a hit. Material fatigue, manufacturing defects, ammunition issues, and operational factors are all among the suspected causes for the embarrassing failure.

The development was confirmed by the Royal Thai Army, which claimed that the cause of the incident is still under technical investigation. It added that the tank was taking fire, and the main gun was repeatedly being used when the rupturing happened.

“Regarding the case of a Thai VT-4 tank experiencing an accident in which firing caused the gun barrel to burst, it did occur,” deputy spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army Colonel Richa Suksuwanont said. “The tank has damage. As for the cause, it cannot yet be specified and is currently under technical examination.”

"...VT-4 tank has been continuously involved in operations and has conducted intensive firing during the period of operations. Whether this may be the cause or not, we ask that the public wait for a detailed technical verification by the Ordnance Department,” he added. Thailand has entrusted the Ordnance Department with conducting a full technical examination of the damaged tank, including an inspection of the gun barrel, ammunition, fire control systems, and maintenance records, a report said.

Source:

https://www.theweek.in/news/defence/2025/12...arrassment.html

https://militarnyi.com/en/news/first-footag...i-army-appears/
