KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has set June 10 to deliver its decision on a lawsuit filed by Lebanese jeweller Global Royalty Trading SAL against Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor over the loss of 43 pieces of jewellery worth RM67.4mil (US$14.57mil).

Judge Datuk Quay Chew Soon fixed the date on Wednesday (April 15) after the court was informed that contractor Chong Tong Leong was the final witness to testify.

The judge instructed Global Royalty to file written submissions by May 13, while Rosmah, 75, must respond by May 28. The decision will be delivered via Zoom.

Chong, 53, testified as the sixth witness for the third parties (the police and the government). He said he was hired by a man identified as Nadziff to renovate a unit at Pavilion Residences between March and May 2018.

He told the court that on May 14, 2018, three days before a police raid, he found several large suitcases in a room that were not there previously.

"I arrived alone at the unit between 11am and 12pm for an inspection before air-conditioning installation. Seeing the situation, I immediately left because I was worried something untoward might happen," he said.

The three-day hearing included testimony from Global Royalty managing director Samer Hassib Halimeh and Rosmah, who was the sole defendant.

Other third-party witnesses included former Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh and 1MDB investigating officer ACP Foo Wei Min.

Global Royalty sued Rosmah on March 29, 2023, claiming she falsely alleged that 44 pieces of jewellery sent to her on consignment were seized by police under anti-money laundering laws.

The company asserted that only one of the 44 items was in police custody, while the remaining 43 were missing. It claimed Rosmah shifted the responsibility to the government when the jewellery was in fact lost.

Iran says intelligence chief killed by strike

More now on the death of Iran's intelligence chief, with Israel's Defence Minister Israel Katz and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claiming responsibility for the killing of Majid Khademi.

The IDF has written on Telegram that his killing is "another severe blow" to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

When it comes to Iran acknowledging the deaths of its senior commanders in the recent war, most examples involve Iran confirming their deaths only after Israel or the US has claimed responsibility. However, this time Iran announced it earlier.

Khademi was appointed as the commander of the IRGC intelligence organisation four days after his predecessor, Mohammad Kaze mi, was killed in an Israeli attack on 15 June 2025.

Back in August last year, Khademi urged parliament to prioritise the completion of a domestic intranet, saying it was needed to “safeguard the sovereignty” of Iran's cyberspace.

Iran is currently still under an internet blackout since the war began on 28 February, although some domestic websites and apps remain accessible within the country.

Couple caught in 'indecent act' at cemetery

KUALA LUMPUR: A video showing a couple caught allegedly engaging in an indecent act while naked at a cemetery has gone viral on social media.

In the 38-second clip, a man is seen fully naked with his back to the camera, while a woman appears partially undressed, sitting on a tombstone.

A woman recording the footage is heard confronting the pair, claiming it was not the first time they had been spotted at the location.

"I found you two here again! They have been naked in the cemetery several times already.

"You are disrespecting the deceased by carrying out such an indecent act here. I am calling the police, she says.

The footage then shows the man calmly putting on his trousers as the woman filming continues to scold them, saying the cemetery is a place for people to pay respect to the deceased.

The man is later seen apologising, but the woman refuses to accept it and warns that she will hand the video over to the police.

The date and location of the incident remain unverified.

IIUM Arabic language lecturer Professor Solehah Yaacob claimed Iban warrior Rentap was Malay and descended from Hang Tuah — the latest in a string of controversial historical assertions that have drawn ridicule, parliamentary debate, and calls for academic accountability.

When Professor Solehah Yaacob, an Arabic language lecturer at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), claimed that Iban warrior Rentap was Malay and a descendant of the legendary Malaccan figure Hang Tuah, Sarawak pushed back hard.

“Such claims are not only factually wrong but also show a blatant disregard for the heritage and identity of the Iban people,” said Peter John Jaban, founder of Sarawak for Sarawakians.

He also questioned why an Arabic linguistics specialist was making claims about Borneo’s indigenous history.

The backlash was fierce — but it was not the first time Solehah had started a national controversy.

In a mosque lecture delivered in December 2022, later uploaded to YouTube in October 2025, she claimed ancient Romans learned shipbuilding from the Malays.

Professor Emeritus Wan Ramli Wan Daud, a historian of Malay technology at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), said there was no archaeological or historical evidence to support the claim.

Facing nationwide mockery, Solehah did not walk it back.

She described herself as the victim of a “media lynching” and invoked academic tradition around respecting differing opinions.

Separately, in a September 2025 podcast, she claimed ancient Malays could “fly” — and had passed this ability to Chinese martial artists.

Police seek help locate missing woman from Kajang

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are appealing for the public's help in locating a woman who was reported missing from her home in Taman Sepakat, Kajang, since last Monday (March 9).

Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the police received a missing report of Nur Dinie Sani Hasrul Sani, 25, at 12.16pm that day.

He said the woman was last seen at Apartment Sri Cempaka, Jalan Sepakat Indah, Taman Sepakat, Kajang.

"The woman is 155cm tall, weighs 49kg, is of a thin build and last seen wearing a black headscarf and a blazer and black long trousers," he said in a statement here on Friday (March 13).

An US aircraft has crashed in Iraq, the American military has confirmed.

A military KC-135 refuelling plane went down after an "incident" involving two aircraft, with "hostile fire or friendly fire" not involved.

US Central Command says "rescue efforts are ongoing" in western Iraq - what the military describes as "friendly airspace".

The second aircraft involved in the incident landed safely, a statement adds.

PETALING JAYA: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be coming to Malaysia on an official visit this weekend as part of efforts to build greater bilateral ties and trade between the two countries.

Having been officially invited by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with the former during his visit on Saturday (Feb 7) and Sunday (Feb 8).

According to India's External Affairs Ministry, Modi will also interact with members of the local Indian community in Malaysia, as well as its industry and business representatives.

“Modi’s forthcoming visit will serve as an opportunity for both leaders to review the entire gamut of bilateral cooperation.

“This will range from trade and investment; defence; security and maritime cooperation; digital and financial technology.

“The aspects of energy; healthcare; education; culture; tourism; people-to-people ties; as well as to set the path for future engagement for mutual benefit will also be reviewed,” the Ministry said in a press release on Wednesday (Feb 4).

Modi’s third ever visit to Malaysia is also scheduled to coincide with the 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum, according to the Ministry.

China on Thursday executed 11 people linked to Myanmar criminal gangs, including “key members” involved in scam operations, state media reported.

Scam compounds have flourished in Myanmar’s lawless borderlands, part of a multibillion-dollar illicit industry.

The centres are typically staffed by foreigners – including many Chinese – with many saying they were trafficked and forced to swindle people online.

Beijing has stepped up cooperation with Southeast Asian nations in recent years to crack down on the compounds, and thousands of people have been repatriated to China.

The 11 people executed on Thursday were sentenced to death in September by a court in the eastern Chinese city of Wenzhou, Xinhua said, adding that the court also carried out the executions.

Compounds inside KK Park, one of the major hubs for scam centres and human trafficking in Myawaddy, Myanmar. The site was raided, but its operators were long gone.

Crimes of the executed included “intentional homicide, intentional injury, unlawful detention, fraud and casino establishment”, the report said.

The death sentences had been approved by the Supreme People’s Court in Beijing, which found that the evidence produced of crimes committed since 2015 was “conclusive and sufficient”, Xinhua said.

Among the executed were members of the “Ming family criminal group”, whose activities had contributed to the deaths of 14 Chinese citizens and injuries to “many others”.

“The criminals’ close relatives were allowed to meet with them before the execution,” Xinhua added.

Scam centres, in which criminals run sophisticated online scams targeting people all over the world, have proliferated across south-east Asia in recent years, including in Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.

They often use trafficked workers who are forced to conduct romance-based investment scams as part of a globalised industry that the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime estimates is worth $40bn annually.

In April, the UN warned that Chinese and south-east Asian gangs are raking in tens of billions of dollars a year through cyber scam centres.

This January authorities arrested Chen Zhi, an alleged scam king pin and head of the sanctioned Prince group, who has since been extradited to China.

They have been working on Sundays and even now they end sometimes at 2am or 4am the noise is insanely loud bloody asses.

AURORA, Colo. (Gray News) - A man accused of attempting to kidnap an elementary school student during recess last year is expected to have his charges dropped.

According to multiple outlets, the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Colorado intends to dismiss charges against Solomon Galligan.

The 33-year-old was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping in April 2024.

Aurora police said he walked onto school grounds at Black Forest Hills Elementary School and approached a group of children during recess, trying to grab an 11-year-old boy.

The children ran away to escape Galligan that afternoon and they were able to run for help.

The boy’s mother said her son gave police Galligan’s description, and told them that he had white powder or some sort of substance on his face, along with smelling like alcohol.

Officers were able to catch up to Galligan and take him into custody.

However, Eric Ross, a spokesperson for the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, shared that a doctor has found Galligan incompetent to stand trial last month.

“When a defendant is found mentally incompetent to proceed and is being civilly committed for mental health treatment, we are legally obligated to dismiss charges,” KUSA quoted Ross.

Authorities said Galligan has a criminal history, which includes a 2012 conviction for failing to register as a sex offender.

According to Ross, his office intends to only release Galligan to a mental health facility.

KMGH reports that Galligan has had four criminal cases throughout the state dismissed, with the issue of competency being raised in all of them.

Galligan is expected to have another court hearing later this month.
