Travel to Singapore from KL

What's the best way now to travel regularly from Singapore to KL, and from KL back to Singapore?

Bus takes 6 hours+, and not that cheap. Plus the vibrations from the bus..damn..can feel ur internal shaking and also, sometimes get nauseous

But airlines now, even the budget ones like Airasia/Scoot..all start from around RM300+

Which places in Singapore should not go?

Going to Singapore for a week vacation. Been a while since I've been there. Plan to walk a lot and travel by foot/or use bicycle. Plan to cover almost the whole of Singapore.

So are there any places or areas where one should not walk/cycle? I mean, it could be due to maybe sketchy activities or supernatural reasons etc..

Just asking, as I'm not familiar with there. Just want to be street smart and not be a tourist who doesn't know the local culture and beliefs.

Thanks.

Why here can earn /k salary 20k but in SG can't?

So I got read this thread here: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5280717..

It is about how Singaporeans earn SGD3,000 and need to pay only SGD3 to get big portion of nasi lemak, whereas in Malaysia earn RM3,000 but need to pay RM10 for big portion of nasi lemak.

Then some people say that yes that's true. However, they also say its easier to get RM20,000 salary compared to SGD usually stuck below what SGD10,000 or what.. So if u can earn RM20k vs SGD10k, of course RM20k is better and u can buy all ur nasi lemak and also car & property..SGD10k still hard to afford luxury and property & car..

But then its not like in Malaysia here u can simply end up in a position earning /k salary right? Talk like as though very easy.

Work hard lo. And if u read on their SG forums HWZ, those expats like Ramesh (the JP morgan guy argue with security guard wan), people say he SGD50k++ wor. Luck also lo..

Your opinion?

How to negotiate salary?

Hello. If u read threads where people ask how to nego salary, usually people say if the hiring manager knows your worth, they can fight HR for you. HR will usually lowball you, but if the hiring manager supports you, u may get ur expected salary.

In audit firm, from my experience usually even whether u freshie or experienced hire, this was the process:

a) Firstly, a recruiter will call u first, ask some preliminary questions bla bla bla, then they ask ur expected salary.

b) After that, you go for face to face interview (or now since its covid, its through video call). The interview maybe mostly have 3 people i.e the manager, the director, and the partner.

c) Finally, the recruiter call u again, tell u that they giving u the offer and ask when can u start, and they tell you the salary you are getting.

Asking because I got my first job in the middle of pandemic, so I ask for a lower salary thinking it may be easier to get in. In hindsight, should have asked for higher, because now I realized its gonna affect all my increments if future companies insists on looking at past payslips and giving raises based on a percentage.

So, want to ask, at what stage do you discuss and negotiate your salary?

Or do audit firms normally have a salary bracket therefore its very hard to negotiate for the salary u want?

If I were to jump between audit firms (lets say between big 4's), can I insist that I do not want to reveal my past payslip and demand the salary I want?

Auditor and want work in Singapore

Hi all,

Looking for some advice and opinions. Currently an external auditor working in audit company. Have ACCA quafilication although not full member, still gaining practical experience. Not from Big 4, but in one of the top 10 (the BDO, RSM, Crowe, Baker Tilly, etc. tier).

I find that my salary not high at all, range around monthly RM3k-RM4.5k now la. Have to give a lot of my salary to parents every month end. Always left with little every month and have to budget so hard to buy food, entertainment, electronics, etc. and save for future.

Wish can hop to Singapore and get higher purchasing power. Based on what I read in this subforum, although accomodation is expensive in SG, but if live a moderate lifestyle and stay indoor a lot, can save more than working in Malaysia. I don't mind...I mean..even now in Malaysia, with my low salary, not like I can afford to go out much also, I'm always at home...no entertainment..no iPhone..no Xbox/Playstation..no clubbing.

So want to ask:

1) Worth to jump to Singapore? Would you if u are me?

2) I want Big 4 (they are bigger company so can afford to pay higher salary). If I quit my current job and look for new job, should I:

i) Jump to Big 4 Malaysia, work for lets say 1 year, then try transfer to the Singapore counterpart? Or

ii) straight jump to Big 4 in Singapore? I'm just afraid that the Big 4's methodology and working style is very different than mid tier firm, then need to learn new things and somemmore need to adapt to new country, later I cant perform then I will be in trouble

3) I graduate from local uni but I have ACCA, which is an international qualification, so my thinking is why limit myself to only here? My counterparts in Singapore are getting paid more than me..although maybe their working culture I heard is more competitive..but even in Malaysia, the audit working hours is quite long and competitive too, yet being paid much lower. Since I have ACCA, I should go work in other country. That's my thinking la. Thoughts? Please give ur opinion, discouragement, anything, would like to hear ur thoughts.

4) Now not married. But if lets say work in Singapore, then want get married to gf who's also Malaysian and currently working for Malaysian company in KL. How? She work KL, I work Singapore, once in a while travel back to see her? Ask her to join me in SG, or if she cant find SG job, ask her to find job in Johor and I also stay in Johor?

Above are my questions and concerns. Although Malaysia here have nice food, weather okay, my immediate family and gf is here, but other than that, nothing much for me here. I'm not close to any uncle, aunty or cousin, I have just one sibling who's independent and working in KL.

Won't miss the Malaysian food that much because I'm not a big eater. I dont mind if I stay in Singapore and don't drive, public transport is okay for me. And then although my gf is in Malaysia, but my thinking is I prefer to be making a lot money and long distance relationship (only once in a while come back to Malaysia, girlfriend/future wife parents can take care of kids), instead of staying together but no money for kids and life expenses. I have firsthand experience of how it is to have not enough money..my parents have no money and often will quarrel.

So please, give ur opinions and thoughts. Encourage me, discourage me, or criticize me. Just need some advice. Thanks for reading.
