It is too late. It only works if the entire world did what China did in the early phase. This means we could have either gotten rid of Covid back in 2020 March within weeks or couple of months, or it will drag out and finally turns endemic. The world chose the latter.

China must stop the zero-covid policy unless it plans to shut off the whole world for the next decade. China fked up big time. Everyone is transitioning to endemic phase with far lower death rate because of high level of natural and vaccine induced immunity. But China only has vaccine induced immunity which is not as effective as its western counterparts. If China opens up, who knows how high the death rate could be. I think this is what the CHinese leadership fears.

The next decade is going to be a horrible one. We will never recover economically for a very very long time if China insists on zero-covid. And a lost decade is not going to be a pleasant one at all.

Scenario

Beta on stage make joke about sigma in an insulting way in front of TV and public. Crowd laughs.

Sigma doesn't show negative emotions, sigma laugh.

Beta caps joke with "that was nice". Beta feels smug and satisfied with himself. Beta thinks he got away with insulting sigma. Beta moves on to next joke.

Sigma gets up at this moment, beta gets nervous when seeing sigma walking like lion towards him, crowd laughs nervously, sigma looks down at beta when walking towards beta, sigma lets beta laugh nervously and thinks sigma is also playing along, sigma smacks beta. Crowd forces themselves to laugh harder.

Sigma walks back to his seat. Sigma adjust his coat and cracks his head while doing so.
