QUOTE

PETALING JAYA: Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi has accused the federal government of repeatedly delaying the launch of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) master plan.
Onn Hafiz said the master plan was already complete and should be launched without further delay, as further postponements could hamper investor confidence and economic momentum. Politik

“The plan was initially scheduled to be launched at the end of 2025. It was later moved to March 30 (before being postponed). Now, it has been postponed again,” he said in a post on X.

The JS-SEZ is a flagship cross-border economic initiative between Johor and Singapore aimed at boosting investment, economic integration, and high-value development in southern Johor.

It covers the Iskandar development region, Forest City, the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex, and Desaru – a land area of 357,128ha.

Onn Hafiz said the government need not wait until the next Singapore-Malaysia leaders retreat at the end of the year to launch the master plan as the city-state had already agreed to the document.

The menteri besar added that the relevant agencies from Singapore, Malaysia, and Johor had given their input and feedback on the master plan.

“This matter should not be delayed. It determines investor certainty and sets the direction for key sectors, investment zones, incentives, infrastructure, talent development, and agency coordination.

“The JS-SEZ is too important for Johoreans. The state government asks and urges the federal government not to delay the master plan any further.”

Onn Hafiz, the state Barisan Nasional chief, has been critical of the federal government ahead of the July 11 state election, even claiming to have been barred from a Felda event by Putrajaya.

Last month, the menteri besar denied that his state government had been uncooperative or arrogant when dealing with Putrajaya.

BN and Pakatan Harapan are clashing over all 56 seats up for grabs in the Johor polls.

Eh this fighting will be our downfall if bickering between federal PMX and MB and TMJ doesn't stop la. In the end gajah sama gajah berjuang, pelanduk mati di tengah tengah.
