Upgrading my old PC

Basically, I have an old PC that I bought 7 years ago as my office PC. The specs are as follows:

Intel I7-4790 LGA1150 3.60GHZ/8MB
Intel® HD Graphics 4600
Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H Motherboard
KST-KVR16LN11/8GB DDR3L LONGDIMM
Samsung SSD-840 EVO Series 120GB
X-FIVE ITX Case Elegant M3

Now that I have a new laptop to replace the PC above, I would like to slightly upgrade my PC so that I can play some games. Can any sifu please recommend me some compatible graphics card (budget less than 1k, that would be great) that can run most of the AAA games in 60fps? I was told that my CPU is decent enough to perform, is that correct? I am not an IT pro, sorry . Also, is upgrading RAM to 16GB alright? I am worried that my motherboard is not compatible. Please do let me know what are the other parts I can upgrade too (with reasonable price). Thanks!
