Fresh Grad, how much of your work is mundane?

My current job involves all kinda admin tasks, like filing, faxing, copying...just feel like not learning anything, a foreign labor without education also can do that.

I'm not saying that because I'm a degree holder I'm more superior than others, but if my daily tasks are all about these, I don't see any future...

The thing is, if I don't do these things, not much things left for me in the office too. My whole day would be idle....

My housemate often bumps into my room...

Anyone of you encouter these things before?

When I am away to work, my housemate would go inside my room and use my lappy for her personal use. Her reason is because she cannot access the internet so have to use mine...somemore she would use that to view DVD... Have passworded my computer so my personal files wouldn't be accessed by 3rd party...but then she would use the "general" user to log in my lappy.

As I have only the master key of the main door, I don't have the key to lock my room. I am very private person and I don't like ppl using my things without asking my permission....

Any suggestions on that?

So if the scenario is, just started out at a new company, say just a few months.
but then feel like not so like the job, so looking for many other opportunities.

Applying a lot through jobstreet, so maybe a few companies wanna interview. say Co A wanna interview you this week, B maybe 2 weeks later,
C maybe a month later, so on and so on So if wanna attend all, how to take leave huh? (gracefully....)

and this seems very petty....if working in office job, cubicle very close to each other. What you talked in the phone might be overheard. So if someone called up for interview, how ah? If say like ,"XXX time and XXX place, c you", then sure ppl know liao....

Jobsdb Singapore career fair

Just saw the career fair advertisement by Jobsdb Singapore.
Anybody been to this kind of career fair before? How they conduct that? Is it similar to that of jobstreet where most companies ask you to go online to apply?

I've been to the Jobstreet one in MidValley, but didn't get much out of it.
So now i'm thinking is it worthwhile to go all the way to Singapore and give it a try.

Do you ask your interviewer how you'd perform?

So I have these 2 interviews, let's call it interview with company A & B. I'd prefer joining company B because I believe it's a better company.

The thing is, Co. A's interview comes before Co.B. I had interview with Co. A last week now pending their decision. I'm going to have another interview wiht Co. B.

Co. A told me that they are going to get back to me within 2 weeks. I'm now afraid that Co. A might get back to me too soon and I need to make decision.

If that's the case, I'd probably tell Co.A that I need some days to think about it, but for sure that there's going to be a dateline.

I believe that Co. B might be telling me the same thing: waiting for results within 2 weeks.
So do you think it'd b wise to ask Co. B about my interview performance after the interview?

How to say this out if I had a future interview?

I'm looking for a job switching and trying to apply as many as postions as I can (in this kind of economy, you know lah).

I'm so damned unhappy with my current job now. The thing is most of the time I am so pointless in the office and my boss just through some really random and unimportant stuff for me. For eg, when he tell you to complete task X by certain dateline, before then he would say "you can proceed with other thing, so ignore task X". After that, he will tell you proceed with task X. Then ok, he say is quite satisfied with task X, so now on, forget task X, concentrate on new task. After a while (probably a week or so), he would say "What's wrong with task X? bla bla bla...."

I don't want to comment much on his leadership style. Just I don't like this kind of way. So thinking of switching to a new environment. At least I would be motivated to learn new things instead of feeling so pointless and useless every day.

I know that in most of the companies within same industry, my position is supposed to be very busy. (I'm quite idle and thrown only random stuff). So if I ever had a future interview with similar kind of position, i'm sure they will ask why would you want to switch? What should I say then? Shouldn't say sth negative rite?

Transition from university to working. How?

so i'm so unhappy with my current job. Don't feel like i can survive the "adult" world...my future is so blurry. I can see myself as a kid crying silently in my own corner...lolz....

this is my first office job after university. How I wish i could be that kind very sociable, outgoing person, or at least a very witty one. The fact is, i'm the opposite of it. It's quite hard for me to mingle with the people in my department. Worse thing is, my whole department are all female (goddamn, this is not an audit firm or account department...), you can imagine lah... I can feel the unfriendliness towards me at the moment.

I was advised that as a fresh grad you should know the ways to get others to teach you sth new. But not every person are really willing to help. So I do ask question, they do answer, but not the very friendly response. Since I'm not so confident and too fluent in speaking English and my department is basically a very English-speaking environment, I don't know how many times i got response like "What ya talking about?" or that kind of face.

So have this girl join into my department same day with me. Goddamn, she is what my opposite is. Outspoken, sociable, speak perfect accented English because of her foreign education. She knows many people in the company even from different departments, connections here and there. She is the kind you will remember her name even you have lunched only once with her. Can you imagine she is also a fresh grad? I'm feeling so inferior and pathetic.

Since we come in together, some of the jobs assigned to us require us to pair up to work together. Hey, she is really good at snaking and yet looks so enthusiastic in work. . Sitting beside her desk, you can feel how unpassionate and unethusiastic she is towards her work. She basically staring at the computer screen whole day, talking on the phone, disappearing from desk.... Basically she doesn't do anything and I end up do all stuff. I try to say how can we split the workload but you know what, she pretends to don't know a single things in front of me. Should the thing go wrong after we submit the task, she is the one really good at defending herself, pointing finger and say "don't you check?" sth like that blah blah blah....Otherwise, she will pretend to be really enthusiastic and ask this ask that. The way she talks and asks are really smart. She can mix well with all the ppl so basically ppl just perceive her positively. Tell me, how can I be like her? (other than job attitude)

Goddamn...I just feel very stupid every day. Probably I would face the very same kind of ppl throughout my working life. I feel like quitting my current job now cause I don't feel motivated working in this kind of environment.

Any suggestions for me? Should I look for another job?

I'm now in my new job about 4 months. This is the first full-time job I ever had and I'm quite unhappy with my job. (working environment and the job scope). I'm so unmotivated to learn new things given my current job.

I'm planning to look for a new job after new year but I'm told that the economic now is really bad and it's not easy to find a job now + terminating employment within probationary period looks bad in the resume.

Anyone can give any suggestions on that?
