Advice/Tips on Odl

Hi. I will be starting my class soon. I will study Software Engineering. I chose 4 years online basically its a new mode. Where you learn in class virtually, but at your home, along with the students who go for physical classes.

I've asked the programme coordinator about how group project will be done. And they told me that group project will be a mixture of physical and online students regardless. So basically, my classes schedule will be the same as physical student, just I will be online at home.

Surprisingly they only offer this mode to selected programme only, and for bachelor, only CS courses can join this mode. I think for me, its kinda an okay choice right? Since SE require us to sit infront of pc most of the time anyway.

Oh and exam will be held online too + with alternative assessment. Well if take a look in the future of what I want to be, a software engineer, there must be time for me to work from home aswell right? I've heard from my senior that he works with SG company, but he works from home in Malaysia, get paid in SGD. That's cool..

One more is because I have a high-end gaming setup already in my home, and I think its going to help me because I already know that my room is condusive for online learning. So any tips and advice before I start classes?

ps : at least i dont have to think about renting or carpark or walk to campus which is very far away from hostel.

UM - New Remote Learning for 2021

University of Malaya has recently introduced a new mode of learning called as "remote learning" as an alternative to physical classes.

Remote Learning is a conventional programme with study methods implemented in situations where students are not physically present in a traditional classroom environment, but attending class remotely.

Teaching and learning is conducted remotely from home or off campus based on the lecture schedule set as students who study conventionally on campus.

Remote Learning uses the method as currently implemented during the pandemic and requires a dedicated electronic platform such as SPECTRUM, Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams & etc.

To check which programme participated in this upcoming September 2021 intake, please visit https://www.umcced.edu.my/programme/rl

What is your opinion guys? Would you rather spend 4 years of physical classes on campus or 4 years of attending class remotely at your home?

UM or MMU for Computer Science

Hi.

Ayam want to study in Comp Science. Got both offer.

UM - Start september
MMU - Start November

UM - "Famous" public university
MMU - Private university

UM - No pure comp science, if specialisation I would choose SE which I still have a doubt if i ever love software or not
MMU - Got Game Development specialisation ayam really interested in games but afraid no future

UM - 4 years study so long
MMU - 3 years study only short and oso have internship

Ayam planning to try apply internship overseas. And also apply one semester exchange to Korea/UK if got into MMU.

Always wanted to study degree overseas but too expensive, so thinking about doing degree locally + master overseas. But everyone said that master in comp science is quite useless if want to apply job but I only take master just as experience studying overseas. I also want to work overseas after graduation. And MMU also grad faster, thinking that one extra year can be used to finish my master.

So basically if MMU, I can go to korea (exchange programme 1 sem) for fun then master I do UK then grad and work there. UM also can BUT the students there share experience about how hard it is to transfer credit back from exchange programme cuz UM is so strict which I dont like, already 4 years then want to add extra 1sem? geez...

Note that financial is not a problem in terms of degree, so which one should I choose, UM or MMU?

I know that UM is considered as the "best" university, but in this case, money is not a problem. Should I go for MMU instead?

Note that if MMU games specialisation I can learn game physics, game production & game design fundamentals. I really love playing with UE4 and Unity3d. i never intend to work in malaysia since many people recommend UM cuz of easy jobs prospect. Which is why I ask this question. Or should I do SE and free time learn about games myself? If this is the case, should I take MMU and save up a year or go to UM.

Studying Biology

Hi guys,

As you guys know that I'm registering Biology subject for the upcoming SPM 2021 to fulfill medicine requirements. However, its kinda hard for me too because in SPM syllabus theres A LOT of unnecessary topics like animals and plants (damn a lot siaaaa) . I know that these topics does not matter for my medicine degree soon. When I did my foundation in science, I also cannot focus 100% for plants and animals because I have no interest at all. I'm much more interested in learning about human's body and anatomy. And diseases, infections, cures, treatments, these all caught my interest in science field.

Personally, its really hard for me to learn all form 4 and form 5 biology syllabus in such short time (I have approximately 7 months only if SPM is held on November). I thought about finding a private online tutor but also damn expensive one. And I don't want to waste more money because a lot is going to be spent for my medicine course soon.

Plus paper 3 is also damn hard because Ive never been expose to such experiment when given a situation, and have to construct my own experiment. (I remembered for Physics and Chemistry dulu also like this, have to construct own experiment, but damn I really had a hard time memorizing all the experiment because you'll never know what will come out.)

I never done a biology experiment before so how am I suppose to know.. Paper 2 is already hard enough with all the essay question I have no idea how the format of answering is. I just need to score a B grade for my the subject. Is there any tips on how do I just score a B grade (finger cross hoping that the marking grades will go down...?)

Final Help.

Im sorry that I've been really noisy here making new topic all the time. But this is my last choice and I want you guys opinion.

As you guys know, I don't meet the requirement to take MBBS because i was lack of one subject which is Biology. Therefore my plan is to now start studying for SPM Biology, from wht I heard from my junior, SPM 2021 will be held this year unlike 2020, plus I also heard that the syllabus has changed for 2021. So maybe I'll get myself a private teacher for the subject. And then just complete my requirement, by next year I'll pursue my MBBS .

I will be 21 by next year, am i too old..? im a bit afraid since maybe most of the coursemate will be 19/20 years old.

Biomedical science

hey would like to know how is the job prospect for this course right now in malaysia? most universities said its accredited by the IBMS (Institute of biomedical science) from UK.

Quoting from IMU site ,
"All graduates with an IBMS-accredited degree are eligible to apply for registration as a biomedical scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK upon completion the IBMS Certificate of Competence training portfolio. Accreditation also provides eligibility for the Institution to become a member of HUCBMS (Heads of University Centres of Biomedical Science). "

And what is the difference with Biomedicine from sunway?

Is it wise if I study the degree first, and pursue master overseas and secure a job there instead? (If the job prospect in malaysia sucks)

Dilemma on study need help

Hello my name is hafiz .

I am a foundation in science graduate, i took subjects such as biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics. i scored a cgpa of 3.40. (i fcked up on maths and also psychology subject during my first sem) . Since a child i was really interested in becoming a doctor. However i was lack of knowledge on the pathway to become a doctor.

During form 4 , my teacher gave me the accounting class + physics + chemistry only WITHOUT biology subject. i was so happy that i thought i will become a doctor soon . however, i started to realize something is wrong during my foundation year .

The government put biology during spm is a MUST to become a certified doctor in malaysia. I asked around various universities if they would consider me as a special case because I was not expose enough during my secondary school, because i live in pedalaman... and they said no, i have to retake biology spm to complete my requirements.

i was so sad because right now im already 20 years old, being sad and almost depressed because right in my eyes my dream crushed. i was too late already to apply for 2020 Spm . my only option is to wait for this year spm, however when will be the date for 2021 SPM? will it be this year or delayed until next year? i really hope i don't have to wait next year just to retake this one subject to fulfill my requirement.

I'm so sad right now because i was really passionate about becoming a doctor, and because it was my late father's wish, for me to become a doctor .. its so sad that because during spm, i got straight A's, only if Biology is there, i wouldn't have to face this kind of problem..

I did asked universities too whether they would let me enrolled first for the MBBS programme while I wait for the spm 2021 date, and take the subject, while studying for the course, so i wouldn't have waste time like this because im already old. But the answer is also no... would it be a wise choice to wait for the spm, just because i want to fulfill the requirement?
