PS3 to Home Theatre

dear all, need help. am currently using a home theatre with no Optical or HDMI input. i want to hook-up my PS3 to have the surround effect so am looking to but a new HT. At the moment my current HT surround wires are inside my plastic ceiling so would have to use the existing wiring. Questions hope someone could help:

1. are all the HT have the same connectors for speakers and woofer - ie red, white, purple, etc connectors?
2. what's the best way to connect PS3? do i look for a HT with HDMI input and output if there's such one. any recommendation of how to go about hooking it up and using existing speakers? which HT that don't cos a bomb - below 1K and have all the connections required?
3. hardly uses the DVD player actually. would it be best to buy an amp with all the input and output requires? if so, what would be a budget amp?

thanks in advance.
