Airport and Cigarettes

I noticed recently that a lot of countries do not allowed you to carry cigarettes with you when you go through security. I came back from China, Thailand and most recently Danang. There is a box that you supposed to dispose of your cigarettes and lighters before security (after passport). So a lot of tourists were caught off guard a can’t even turn around to go back outside to finish off their pack. The funny thing is that after the security check, inside the departure hall, there’s a smoking room, but guess what.. it’s empty!!!

Why buying property so expensive?

I wanted to get a sub sale condo but realised the lawyers fees and agent fees can add up to more than RM35,000. This is not including the 10% downpayment. Looking at the fine print, the lawyer fees is the worst, RM350 for transportation, RM80 for phone calls... WTF. Even I drive to Ipoh and back doesn't costs me RM350. And what is the phone calls for? To call who?

I feel it's a scam that people just blindly pay and lawyers continue to charge.. It's ridiculous.

Business Lingua Franca

Does anyone else feels annoyed if someone speaks to you in Mandarin just because you are Chinese? If it's the hawkers or wet market, then I usually just answer them back in Cantonese and that is very occasionally, usually the person speaking to me in Mandarin is younger than me. The ones around my age usually speaks Cantonese in PJ

But if in a professional setting? Happened to me recently when I met a bank officer. I mean this is an official business meeting and shouldn't you use English or even BM? I just looked at him and say ' I don't speak Mandarin'.

Why do the young assume you can speak Mandarin? I am a banana and like many mature folks in PJ we never attended Chinese School mostly learned Cantonese from our parents or watching TVB. Just like my school mates we all can speak Cantonese very well but that is it! No Mandarin. TQ

Micro Ownership Program

Has anyone invested in this before? Basically instead of investing in a whole company, you invest in the dishes that the company sell. For example Curry Laksa sold by ABC Restaurant is RM10.00. Every time someone orders this you will get RM0.30. Initial investment is quite low, a dish can be from RM1000 to RM2000.

Any questions that I should be asking before investing? I have asked about the minimum time or any break in clause and also what happens to my investment if I pulled out?

TIA.

MySejahtera f*** Up

I bought a new phone and transferred all my data successfully to it but not the Mysejahtera. When I logged in to my new iPhone, it shows I am not vaccinated. I have emailed them to say that I have and even sent the supporting documents as proof. That was this morning. I am still waiting for them to update my page and I can't go anywhere... I heard that you can go to any vaccine centre and they will be able to update it for you. Is it true?

OK here is my dilemma. On one hand, we are advised to keep our doors and windows open (living in condo) to encourage air circulation. My condo is quite high and so its windy. My question is, what if one of my neighbours have Covid and they sneeze or cough. Will the virus then spread to my unit and then I get infected? Do you think its advisable to keep doors/windows closed? I don't think it's advisable to wear a mask in my own home.

CookHouse - Shared Cloud Kitchen Concept NO FOR ME

I wanted to post my personal experience dealing with the so called co-founder of Cookhouse in Seventeen Mall.

I registered for a tour of the Cookhouse in Seventeen Mall on Wednesday 7th April at 6pm. I had to take time off my busy schedule because I was told that I am able to see the units, and all the facilities.

Upon arrival, the lady co-owner just greeted me with ‘Oh hi’. Then the next question she asked me is what business am I looking to do. I told her I haven’t decided yet but it could be fast food like fried chicken. Then she immediately asked a staff to open 2 empty units for me to look but she just stood there looking at her phone and ignoring me. I asked her whether she is interested in showing me around and she replied that she prefers someone who already know what they are selling rather than someone who just want to check out the facilities. I thought the idea of the tour is to do that?! Anyway, I left as I found her attitude to be extremely rude and lacking in basic communication skills. I get the impression that she is only interested in serving people of her own gender.

To me, especially in this tough business times, don't be so cocky and treat all your potential customers with courtesy and acknowledge them with the proper honorifics. It is bad for you to assume someone based on how they look or dressed. And most importantly expecting someone to only book a tour when they have concrete idea of what they want to sell is cutting your nose to spite your face. Based on this I won’t be a customer for anything to do with Cookhouse and personally would not recommend it to my friends either.

They also charge quite high, like a small units with all the equipment is about RM6k per month and one has to sign a 1 year lease too. Have you had any bad experiences with them? Do share..
Driving licence without test

Hi there. I am a new member here. I was told of this forum so would like to ask some general advice. My Malaysian driving licence has expired more than 6 years now when I was outside Malaysia. I went to renew it and JPJ told me that I can't and need to do the whole test again.

Anyway for some reasons I came across a page on IG that says RM950 for a licence and I don't need to sit for the test. The licence will be registered on JPJ system, etc. so it's legit. I read somewhere sometime back that this was happening in broad daylight.. it was reported by WOB.

So my question is, has anyone done this before (if you don't want to expose yourself, you could say a friend has). I just want to know if this is really real. Many thanks
