Ipoh Car Air-Cond Repair Shops

Noticed there is no topic from Ipoh car owners sharing their favorite car air-cond repair w'shops where i would like to kick-off by recommending a workshop called Ipoh City Car Air Cond Repair And Service Center located at 43, Jalan Sri Cempaka, Taman Cempaka..

found the mid 30's owner is a really honest person and technically competent air-cond mechanic which is rarely found nowadays...

he does't simply recommend replacing parts to inflate the final bill and only change faulty components when necessary..

hence, this resulted in my car air-cond is now shit cold where i now have to turn the temperature knob higher!!!

TV Size & Viewing Distance For Reading Subtitles

Just to share with everyone on my research results on the maximum field of vision and correlating TV Size for ensuring that subtitles are easy to read.

For KDrama fans (like myself) whom have to read & understand the subtitles while at the same time taking-in the action on screen, I realised that while a subtitle is displayed, the entire scene must be viewed including the speaking characters’ facial expressions, objects, activities & interactions. In other words, there is a lot of information to be processed during this time.

Hence, if the TV size is too large or viewing distance is too close, then my eyes will mostly become fixated on the bottom part of the screen, ie. subtitles, and then quickly moving up to the screen centre where very soon this will become quite uncomfortable/tiring.

Thus, i’ve measured my favourite sitting position from a 49in TV which ensures a comfortable subtitle viewing that turns out to be 9ft away.

Based on the basic math formula for calculating field of view which is 2 x arctan ( [S/2] / D ), i’ve managed to ascertain that the maximum field of vision for subtitles reading is 22 degrees.
[S - diagonal screen size; D - viewing distance].

For easy reference, i’ve used Rtings.com graph pertaining to its ‘TV Size to Distance Calculator’ to include in the 22 deg field of vision.

In summary, one may want to consider the ease of reading subtitles factor when getting a new TV.

Marantz Owners Thread

since there is no topic under this sub-forum for marantz product owners, will start the ball rolling by sharing my experience with the PM5004 and NA7004...

the PM5004, compared to my Aego M, is way much better with its absence of any noise floor..if single wired, bass is excellent but mid & treble is a bit muddy...if bi-wired, bass suffers but mid & treble becomes very clear...

for the NA7004, mid & treble is damn good compared to my Cambridge Audio DVD99 (which previously served as my CDP.) while bass is good...

but one peculiar feature of the NA7004 is that when you set the player to shuffle/random play using the NAS, the unit repeat back some of the tracks in the selected folder and would continue playing without stopping unlike my DVD99..

hence, may i kindly enquire from all marantz cdp owners, when you set the player to shuffle/random play using the usb input, do you face the same situation as mine or would the CDP complete 1 cycle of play of the selected folder without any repeating the songs/tracks?

many thx for your reply as i'm considering getting a marantz cdp...

Ignition Timing Adjustment

Sifus,

upon checking my Dad's Wira MMC ignition timing with my basic timing light, i notice a very abnormal condition whereby the crankshaft pulley timing notch 'frozen mark' is at the 2 o'clock postion rather the being align to the timing belt cover scale which is at the 10 o'clock position relative to the cranshaft pulley looking from the left wheel side (refer photo below)...

hence, could any sifu help me out in explaining this situation...ie. izzit because when the mechanic changed my dad's timing belt, he wrongly installed the pulley causing the timing notch to deviate by 60 - 90 deg from its intended position...or izzit because the ECU got problem?...many thanks...

Cylinder Head Porting

Sifus,

i'm planning to undertake a PnP job to my 4G15 head whereby upon reading some articles about it, it is claimed the port entry & exit is already achieving 95% flow efficiency while at the port bowl is around 75% and only 50% at the port throat & valve seat...

http://www.popularhotrodding.com/enginemas...eads/index.html

hence, should we just ignore polishing work to the exhaust port and ask the machine shop to just concentrate on reprofiling the port bowl and undertake a multi-angle valve cut plus chamber deshrouding?

moreover, some machine shop is able to increase compression ratio of the head by welding some metal filling onto it....should i also go for it?

http://protoncars.biz/index.php/topic,25613.40.html

members feedback are highly appreciated..

Cylinder Leakage Test

Hi, i'm just wondering if anyone knows which w'shop that is able to conduct a leak down test for our engines as i would to diagnose on my oil consuming problems....many thanks for everyone's input...

i know you all guys would ask me which part is leaking....well, both engine block and cylinder head is clean from oily deposits where previously my spark plug threads used to have oil stain but now has stopped....no oil residues in the coolant which indicates sound head gasket condition...no blue or white smokes coming out from the tailpipe....

i fear i could have a fine crackline to my cylinder head when my mechanic bolt down the head when performing a top overhaul job a few years ago....

of course, there are some oil deposits from my oil pan rim but not dripping wet which do not explains why my oil level drop to minimum every 5,000km...really goofs me up....

Replacement of Tyre Valve

hmmm...i'll be replacing all my four tyres and is wondering could i still use back my rubber tubeless valve (at the front tyres) or metal bolt-in valve (for sport rims use actually but is installed in my normal steel rims at the rear tyres)...

reason being i've only clocked 30K km and feel the valves can still be reused in my next tyre change right?....what's your thoughts on this as i could save some spare cash for my next petrol refill....many thanks...

Hi, does anyone know of any local support group or blog that guides people interested in DIY'ing their own hydrogen electrolyzer? (ie. hydroreactor/hydrofuel)...

reason being, the stainless steel parts and other materials such as pure baking soda are quite hard to find in M'sia and wonder if someone could help us DIY enthusiast out..

thanks.

Where to Custom Made Extractor Heat Shield

Bros, i'm planning to upgrade my stock extractor to the performance tuned type but most of these aftermarket replacement extractors do not come with a metal heat shield...

as i do not wish to thermal wrap the extractor (fearing future cracks) nor sent for ceramic coating (no budget lah...), can anyone proposed some metal workshop that can help us to custom made a metal heat shield and find ways to bolt it on the extractor?...

members alternative ideas on how to fix the custom made heat shield is also highly appreciated...

Fuel Catalyst - Myth or Fact?

Bros, if you have installed some form of fuel catalyst into your car, either of the Drop-in Tank form or the In-Line version, do you mind sharing with us your experience whether it was a worthwhile money spent or otherwise. As for myself, i'm using a drop-in tank catalyst made by Fitch where i noticed it made my engine run a bit more smoother but FC wise, i guess you need a lab test to get a definite result. I'm in the midst of getting the In-Line version made by Fuel Cat and see whether it will further improve on my FC.

Hence, would appreciate it if members could also share their experiences in this forum on the performance of their fuel catalyst and let others know whether one should consider installing it if budget permits...Thanks
