Apple has just posted its Q3 results and the tech giant has performed marvelously. Apple’s revenue has gone up 36% YoY, totaling $81.41 billion for the quarter. iPhone revenue went up almost 50% to $39.57 billion while services were up 33% with $17.48 billion.

Mac and iPad sales increased YoY as well, with Mac making $8.24 billion and iPad making up 7.37 billion. Apple’s infamous “other products” category is where the company groups other the rest of the products, mostly made up to revenue from AirPods and the Apple Watch. This category raked in $8.77 billion, accounting for a 40% increase YoY.

The company’s success with the world’s shift to working and going to school from home. The sudden jump in iPhone sales comes at a time when smartphone buyers are ready to switch to a 5G smartphone.

Looking forward, Apple executives warned that supply chain delays could affect Apple’s revenue for the next quarter, particularly with iPad and iPhone supply. At the same time, Apple is expected to release new products that should give its bottom line a boost such as a the new iPhones, a new Apple Watch, and a new AirPods model. Many are also hoping that Apple releases higher performance Mac computers powered by M1.

Intel Reveals New CPU Core i20A

Intel officially released a roadmap for its technology and development process, from now and through the year 2025. The roadmap is one of its most detailed to date and lists down the chipmaker’s upcoming process and packaging technologies.

Firstly and moving beyond its 10nm SuperFin process, the naming convention of Intel’s next several die lithography will be ditching the “nm” reference. At least, that seems to be the case for the next three generations. As such, these process nodes will simply be known as Intel 7, Intel 4, and Intel 3.

As per the official fluff, Intel 7 is what’s next on the roadmap, after the chipmaker’s current 10nm has run its course on the market. Previously known as the 10nm Enhanced SuperFin process, Intel says that this die lithography is expected to deliver approximately 10% to 15% more performance-per-watt (PPW) over the current 10nm SuperFin transistors, along with having more enhanced features. This includes an increased strain, lower resistance materials, novel high-density patterning techniques, streamlined structures. And even better routing with its stacks.

In terms of availability, Intel is forecasting production of Intel 7 to start during the first quarter of 2022.

Intel 4, on the other hand, is when Intel expects to shrink its process node further, from 10nm to 7nm. Moreover, it will be the company’s first full embrace of the EUV die lithography; a technology that TSMC and Samsung are already using with their own chips. As for its performance, Intel says it will have a 20% PPW over Intel 7, with production to being during the second half of 2022, while product shipping is expected to happen the following year.

Intel 3 is the last product on this list and will be the final process node that its maker says will make use of the FinFET process. Sadly, the chipmaker’s announcement about this isn’t flushed with a whole lot of detail, only that it will deliver 18% PPW over Intel 4 and that production is expected to begin in the second half of 2023.

One important point to note is that all three die lithography will still actually be based on the SuperFin process, and it is only after Intel 3 will Intel move on to a brand new process altogether, with Intel 20A spearheading the charge.

With Intel 20A, the company will also introduce two new “breakthrough” technology: PowerVia and RibbonFET. Starting with PowerVia, Intel says that the technology will be an industry-first implementation of a backside power delivery, which we can see via the cross-section provided. By doing this, the company says that it optimises signal routing while reducing droop and lowering noise.

RibbonFET, as you can imagine, is set to be a new transistor architecture that is set to replace FinFET, which was introduced back in 2011. Like Intel 20A, there isn’t a whole lot of detail about the process, and it is likely that we will only be hearing more when the node’s production gets ramped in 2024.

Apple to use titanium alloy in iPhone, cheaper Max

Apple is planning on using titanium in the iPhone 14 Pro models.

The titanium could be used on the outer chassis or the internal frame, or both. Apple already has some experience with titanium, most notably in the Apple Watch and in the Apple Card.

Titanium is stronger than most metals (three times as strong as stainless steel), while being lighter. However it is prone to smudges and can be unattractive. Apple would presumably address these issues by binding the titanium to another metal in an alloy.

Only the Pro iPhone 14 models will use titanium.

The interior of the iPhone 14 would feature greater changes than the upcoming iPhone 13, and that there won't be an iPhone 14 mini, only two 6.1-inch iPhones and two 6.7-inch ones. iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Amazon is in a bit of hot water with its New World MMO beta. There have been reports of the game bricking Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards. Overall, it’s a bizarre issue for the MMO, especially since it looks to only affect the top-of-the-line cards.

Affected players have been sharing their misfortune on Reddit. A number of cases saw their card getting fried as soon as they enter the New World lobby. Windows Central reports that since the menu screen doesn’t have an fps cap, the game ends up rendering over 9000 fps. And because of this, the usual tricks like V-sync and fps caps are not working, as they only kick in during gameplay.

On Reddit and the New World forums, the vast majority of those having issues are those using the EVGA branded RTX 3090 cards. Though other brands are not necessarily safe, as one report involved a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3090. And on that note, it’s not exclusive to the 3090 either as there is at least one mention of a 3080 and a 2080 Super. Other cards, like a 1060, were suffering from other issues like “100% memory leak”, even if their cards did not get bricked.

Amazon has since responded to the issue. Though the tone of the statement makes it sound like hand-waving. It essentially boils down to “it’s not the fault of our game, but we’ve capped frame rates on our menu screen to reassure players”. Meanwhile, EVGA has acknowledged the problem and is looking into it.
