Shutter jammed for D90, is it worth repairing?

Hi, I own a Nikon D90 and it's shutter has jammed midway between open and close. I'm staying in penang, is there any good repair shops and how much am I expected to pay?

Is it worth repairing or should I buy a new camera? I don't shoot very frequently and a new camera seems like a waste of money

MIDI

Hi guys, I'm a organ/piano player. I'm new to this MIDI thing, and I've been searching the net for info.

However, I have some questions that I hope u guys can help me.

I'm interested to try my hand out with MIDI. However, my budget is limited. I'll be using it for sequencing and arranging some songs for my personal enjoyment.

So far, I have a PC with only a built in Realtek ALC888 sound card on my Gigabyte mobo. My total budget is about RM2k only. Please advice me on the best setup for my budget.

My questions are:
1. Do I really need to get a soundcard and a studio monitor/headphones? If yes, any recommended budget buys?
2. I need something as a MIDI controller, and so far M-audio keystation 61es is given good ratings on the net. However, with the price of RM700, i could've bought any other keyboards with a USB port and use it anytime even without my PC. Can any keyboard (e.g. Casio CTK-2100 which is around RM800) with USB port work well as a MIDI controller?
3. Should I just spend everything on an expensive keyboard instead, like the Roland E-09 which i understand has a 16 track sequencer?

Any other combination and suggestions are welcomed

Thank you very much everyone!

Hi, I've checked out some of the camera shops lately, and they've been spreading rumors about a coming price hike in August 2009 for Nikon. Some also say Canon will also have a price hike.

Wonder if it is true? Can anyone confirm this?

If yes, then when is the best time to buy a DSLR?

want to clean install ori XP, but no CD

Hi guys, when my GF bought an Acer laptop years ago, she payed extra RM250 for ori Windows XP. But what they give her is only a sticker at the bottom of the laptop with ori license key, but they din give her OEM XP CD.

Now as years passed, her laptop got a lot of junk accumulated, and she asked me to do a clean install for her. But i thought that if i format the hdd, the ori XP will be lost. Can I just download a copy from the internet and use my own ori CD-Key on it? Will it work? cos i dun wan to use illegal copy.

since she payed for an ori license, this wont be illegal, right?

Thanks first!

Saphhire Radeon HD4670 512GDDR4 problems

Hi, I bought a PC from AllIt LYP on 14th Dec 2008. It was a package deal that they have,

C2D E7300
Gigabyte GA-EP43-D3L
Saphhire Radeon HD4670 512GDDR4
4gb Kingston DDR2
320gb HDD
PSU Powerlogic 450W (real power 230W)

I saw that they have a demo of GRID running on highest graphics, and i thought since they create this package, it should work perfectly.

However, when i went back, i installed GRID and started playing. It frequently crashes in the menu, and before it crashes, the whole screen becomes exactly like this

(i dont have my own screenshot so i grabbed it from the other person)

I tried other games including Crysis and it also ends up crashing exactly the same way. Other latest games also have this problem.

I checked on AMD game forums and someone else had exactly the same problem as me. This is the link http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm...threadid=105511 but they do not have any solutions.

Can somebody help me? I've updated the Catalyst CCC to the latest 8.12, my mainboard firmware also updated to the latest, Windows Vista Home Premium updated to SP1, but still the problem continues.

Otherwise, can i return the GC to AllIt and get something from other brand like ASUS or Gigabyte? But i'm not if the will accept it. And also, since this is the configuration that they offer me, can I claim warranty since the set up is not working well?

By the way, I've checked online and apparently Saphhire Radeon HD4670 is only available on GDDR3 but NOT GDDR4. But my box clearly says GDDR4. So I wonder if I got some fake graphic card?

Stupid housemate taking up all router bandwidth

My stupid housemate likes to use Thunder, a P2P software from China. Its very good in taking up all the bandwidth in our router. Everything becomes so damn slow, so we told him that only after midnight can use. But since I use BitComet after midnight, now my torrents are running very very very very slow (2% per night compared to previous 15% per night on the same torrent). Is there a way i can set my router to limit his bandwidth so that he wont snatch up all our resources? Maybe distribute the bandwidth equally or something?

I'm using D-link DL-524 router.

BTW, no need to tell me to advice him... that son of a b**** very very stubborn. Also... we cant kick him out of the house

Thx guys.

I lent my external hdd to my GF. When i got it back today, i found that many of my folders gone. When i did a scan, a trojan was found (forgot what name of trojan) and i deleted the trojan. The files still gone. I've checked my HDD space, the "disappeared files" still occupy space. And there are many new files with similar file names ìv╥┬ìv╥┬.ìv╥ and sizes appear. Can someone help? Cos I need to retrieve the files, they contain my photos.

Included is a screenshot of my HDD in windows...

Low-Tech non-CO2 planted aquarium

Hi, I'm new to the planted aquarium hobby. I'm a college student, and always wanted to start a planted tank. But the high costs of planted aquarium has put me off... until I sat this topic http://www.ultimatebettas.com/lofiversion/...php/t24656.html on the net! non-CO2 supplemented tanks are a possibility! I searched on this forum and could not find a topic for this... so i will start. People with experience in a Low-Tech planted tank, please share your experiences and prove those LFS taukays (they say planted aquarium without CO2 supplementation cannot survive) wrong!

It has been a week since I set-up my tank. So far, the plants are doing ok, but its still too early to tell. I'm averaging 12 hours light per day, with still no signs of algae growth. I'm following the guide and planted 80% of the substrate with plants initially, then when stable, I plan to remove those that I don't need.

I am a total Noob, so any helpful comments are welcomed.

My tank profile:
Tank- 35cmX25cmX30cm
Lights- PL-C 11w 6400k
Filtration- Hang-on filter, Ocean Free 288
Substrate- Aquasoil Amazon II (3litre)- top 2 inch layer 100% Aquasoil, bottom 1 inch layer mixed with 50% pea gravel (ADA aquasoil too expensive to use 100% for me)
Plants- Java moss, Alternanthera reineckii, Hydrocotyle sp., Ceratopteris cornuta, and got 2 more i dunno the name
Fish- None yet, want to wait 2 weeks. I hear that Aquasoil has high ammonia, will kill fish...
Decorations- 1 small, sinking driftwood (claimed by LFS boy that is from ADA, so charged me RM14 for it)
Total expenditure- RM204.70

3rd day after planting

Hydrocotyle doing well, new buds formed...

1 week after planting, look at the growth!

Decided to prune it and replant some of the plants as they are getting messy and ruining my deco...so, i totally decimated the old design!!!

Today (day 3 post replanting) I've added my first fishes, Blank Neon Tetras

Meanwhile, I hope to hear you experiences with el naturale or low-tech planted aquariums!

Thanks!

More ram for Dell Inspiron 6400, is it worthwhile?

Hi, I'm using a Dell Inspiron 6400, currently with Centrino Duo T2300@1.66ghz, 1gb 667mhz SDRAM, ATI Radeon x1400 256mb hypermemory.

I'm thinking of upgrading it to 4gb 667mhz SDRAM to "future proof" my laptop. I'm actually quite satisfied with the current performance of my laptop, but since I'm a student and don't have budget for a new PC, I hope that by doing that, it will serve me for another 2 years.

My questions are,

1. Will the extra ram bring any real benefits? Will the be significant improvements on the performance? I'm only casual gamer, playing games like Call of Duty 4 with minimal graphics settings, doing some photoshop, and of course the usual internet use and MS powerpoint/word currently on my desktop.

2. Will there be compatibility problems with the extra RAM (4gb)? I'm currently using WinXP Home Edition, but plan to go for Vista later.

3. Is 4gb overkill? Should I go for 2gb instead of 4gb?

Thanks first!

Boycott "Zoological Supplies" in Petaling Street

Today i went to a pet shop in Petaling Street... The one shop called something zoological supplies. The animals on sale there were in inhumane conditions. There was a sugar glider kept in a "Guppy" plastic tank (the smallest size about 6inchX3inchX4inch"). The poor sugar glider didnt even have place to move. It just lay there bunched up and motionless. And the worse part is, the tank is put under a very bright fluorescent light! Sugar gliders are nocturnal animals, imagine the suffering it has to endure!!! And also... the price is not cheap... RM420 for the sugar glider in such a poor condition.

And the snakes on sale there were also put in very small plastic aquariums. So much so that the snakes were all tightly coiled up.

I am deeply sorry for the animals there. Hope that pet lovers out there will boycott this shop. If u do not believe me, go and take a look yourself!
