            <title>Engine Oil Viscosity Doubt</title>
            <link>http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5058487</link>
<description>I&amp;#39;ve read through various forums on engine oil, and as a conclusion, follow your owner&amp;#39;s manual. Well, my car is Hilux Revo 2.4, the manual recommends 5W-30, minimum API CF, also can use 10W-30, 10W-40, 15W-40 or 20W-50. So I decided to use Valvoline Power CommonRail 10W-30 API CI-4/SL (Synthetic Blend), ACEA E7-16, Global DHD-1 etc, which I assume well within the recommended engine oil, and I suppose can last around 7k-7.5k km as it is a semi oil. Now, after around 3k km, I noticed that the car took longer time to crank, with some &amp;quot;batuk&amp;quot; sound, which is a normal sign for weak battery, so I changed the battery, high CCA battery lagi, but the slow crank persisted. So I checked the dipstick, black, oil reduced to about 3/4 on the disptick. Drained the oil, thick black oil, and upon inspection, there&amp;#39;s clumps of black particles in the drained oil, picit, it&amp;#39;s &amp;quot;sandy&amp;quot;. And now I&amp;#39;m feeling doubtful on the recommendation to use 30 weight oil, only 3k km on the oil and these things happened. Now I&amp;#39;m using back the good old Shell Rimula R4 X 15W-40 API CI-4, it cranks like a champ again, with the new battery, even better, did 5k km, no oil reduction issue, no thick black oil when drained, just normal dark brownish oil, no particle clumps etc. Now the question is, what&amp;#39;s the problem with that 30 weight oil? Is it the oil have good cleansing power that it cleanse the accumulated deposits? Or I got a fake oil or something? (It was Valvoline&amp;#39;s authorised dealer). Or 30 weight oil is not suitable for diesel car in our climate?</description>
