Dell Latitude L400

Hi all, I'm having a Dell Latitude L400, which could not boot directly from HDD after the DELL logo screen. I have to press F12 to boot menu, then choose "Internal Hard Drive", then only it'll load Windows. The following is the boot menu sequence:

[Removable Device]
[Internal Hard Drive]
[Atapi CD-ROM Device]
[Network Boot]

To overcome this, I tried to go into the CMOS, and to the menu under "Boot". The problem is, I could not change the boot sequence. The selections are grayed out and the message on the right panel wrote:

"All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system Supervisor."

All the password (Internal HD, User, Supervisor) are clear, no password at all. I've tried to set password to User and Supervisor, save & exit, and go back into CMOS again, using the Supervisor password, still I could not change the boot sequence.

Anyone familiar with DELL could help me on this?

Thx!

SAS window winlogon.exe application error

Hi all,

I had the following message after updating Windows, reboot, and typing in username and password:

"SAS Window : winlogon.exe-Application error
The exception Single Step
A Single Step or Trace operation has just been completed. (0x800000004) occured in the application at location 0x0000000"

Then the machine just restart itself.

I've had this problem 2mths ago, also after Win Update. Formatted and re-installed. Now it came back again. Had been using the same machine, same config for the last 2 yr+, no problem previously. Safe Mode and loggin in to another account gives the same result: err msg, then reboot automatically.

The following are some details:

*Win XP Pro Ori, went to MS site and updated Windows manually until no updates is found, before this update released yesterday.
*Win Update set to "Download and notify for install".
*Had AVG and Spybot S&D installed, updated and scanned.

I've done some search online, there are post on such err msg, but no solution posted. Hope someone here is able to give some solution.

Thx~

24x7 P2P machine PSU always mati

Hi all, here's the scenario: 1st 450W PSU dunno brand died in less than 1 yr. Then using another PSU, brand L&C 450W. Shop replaced a new 450W PSU, brand Falcon, for the 1st PSU. L&C dead after 6-7 mths in used. Now this Falcon also died last nite after 5-6 mths. No sparks, no burning smell, power just cut off.

Machine is P4 2.8E, MSI 865PE Neo2, 512 Kingston, 1 SCSI HDD, 1 SATA HDD, 1 DVD-RW, Radeon 9600 PRO, 4x80mm fan. Connected to KOSS 800VA UPS.

Machine is non overclocked. Calculated power consumtion is less than 350W. Rig temp between 49-55C.

Wanna ask:
1) Are chapalang PSU that bad, until changed 3 PSU in 2 yrs?
2) Could it be the UPS? Is there a way to test the UPS, eg. may cause sudden strong current?
3) Any reconmendation for quality PSU, and price? Just for normal use, non overclock, casual gaming.

Thanks~
