This was one way the society could directly, and animals, indirectly play a part in addressing this issue.<br /><br />Therefore, DOGATHON(tm) was initiated as a charity drive, organized by the 3rd year veterinary students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia. DOGATHON(tm) is held annually to raise funds in aid of &#39;Stray Dog Awareness&#39; programs and assist annual activities of Zoologico Club. Even with its serious mission, it is still a fun-filled event, giving exposure to all types of dogs and dog owners to indulge in something out of the ordinary.<br /><br />The main highlight of the event is the DOGATHON(tm) Race where dogs and owners are required to run for 2.5 km in the early morning coolness under the shady trees of UPM.<br /><br />Every year, great games and activities for both dogs and owners have been a hallmark of each DOGATHON(tm).<br /><br />The DOGATHON(tm) is unlike any other dog show where dogs are caged-up for the purpose of exhibition. It is an event where pedigree and non-pedigree dogs are all welcomed to participate in.<br /><br />OUR OBJECTIVES<br /><br />1.To raise funds<br />- to be channeled towards the betterment of stray animals, through welfare project, "PRO KASIH", which will be run by the Veterinary Students<br />- to campaign against cruelty to animals<br /><br />2.To hold an Absolutely Doggy Day<br />- by organizing a fun-filled day for the dogs, canine-lovers and kids<br />- by enabling dog lovers to meet and socialize<br /><br />3.To increase public awareness of professionals involved with pet animals and to promote the knowledge about the veterinary profession<br /><br />4.To create a platform to teach, eg. both the responsible dog ownership as well as the pleasure of owning a dog<br /><br />OUR THEME<br /><br />The theme in year 2004 was "Doing it the Hawaiian Style" where participants don the Hawaiian outfits whilst enjoying a relaxing beautiful Hawaiian environment.<br /><br />In year 2005, the theme was "Who let the Dogs Out?" Everyone can join in the fun by coming in casual, comfortable, and colourful western-style outfits and experienced an exciting Wild Wild West environment right in the middle of UPM.<br /><br />The theme for year 2006 was "Pirates-All Paws on Deck".
