Any of you know how custom and GST is calculated for anything bought from:

1. Overseas Travel
2. Online shopping from overseas

What I read is
1. for custom tax = total cost x 30%
2. GST is then (total cost + custom tax) x 6%

Can anyone confirm my understanding?

Can anyone recommend good mechanic to repair my very old Proton Saga? The engine oil is leaking and i need to top up engine oil periodically to prevent low level of oil.
Since it is almost a 30 years car, i need to check out if the repair price is cheaper or expensive than the car itself...LOL.

IEM/BEM Graduate Exam

Hello,

I am one of the "victim" graduating from university of sheffield (1+2 course) in UK with 3 yrs course and ended up cannot register with BEM as graduate member. (ECUK changed their spec to only accredit 4 yrs course and BEM is referring back to ECUK for accredited degree done in UK universities). So, i have made up my mind to sit for the IEM/BEM exam rather than taking up part time Master course in Local U and i will have to sit for full part 2 and part 3 exam. I had even bought the RM10 CD from IEM which contains only a pdf file outlining all the syllabus of the papers to be taken (damn conman) without give a list of recommended reading book list...LOL. I am not really sure which book i have to buy and read for each paper although they provide the general syllabus for the subject, can anyone provide a reading list or any information such as pass year papers..etc to help me to pass the exam? I am in Mechanical Discipline btw.

I accidentally dropped my external hard disk yesterday and since then it cannot be detected when i connect it to the PC. There is also ticking noise coming out from the hard disk when connected to PC. i suspect that the mechanical arm inside is causing this problem, since the data inside is very important to me, i am thinking of getting the data recovery service from mdrsolution.

So need opinion from all of you about mdrsoultion, anyone dealt with them before? If so, please let me know how's their service and the price they charged. PLease also include your hard drive problem preferably same situation as mine (hard drive rop and ticking sound).

Below is my summary of working period during year 2005-2006

Year 2005 (Company did not open file for me in LHDN and i did not go and open myself)
Nov - Dec (RM2300)

Year 2006 (Company did not open file for me in LHDN too and i did not go and open myself)
Jan - Feb (RM 2300)
Mar - Dec (RM 2500)
13th Month RM2500
I have calculated and actually i need to pay around RM 35 to LHDN but i did not declare since i tot that i dont have a file yet in LHDN. Will this affect me in the future when i want to buy properties? Or i can just ignore it? If there is an impact on me, what should i do?

Jan -Feb (RM2500)
Mar - April (RM2750) - (company started to pay PCB for me, does this means that company open a file for me in LHDN? and i only got the letter from LHDN on July 2007 for my tax number. But i have changed to another company in mid of May (Half month salary) and this new company already started to pay PCB from Jun(Full month salary) for me from the start. However, i got two letter from LHDN on Feb 2008. One saying that my PCB on Mar 2007 had successfully transact into my tax number and the other one is my PCB on Jul 2007 had also successfully transacted. Now i am not sure which company open file for me in LHDN).
