AMA Engineering at Oxford Brookes University

Hi, I graduated from Oxford Brookes University in England this year with a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering and I'm currently working remotely for a British start-up and holds an offer to do an internship at Total (a French multinational oil & gas firm), but I'm trying to land a job in Singapore at the same time so I haven't accepted the offer yet. I started this thread to share information about engineering at Brookes, and answer questions.

The university is very well regarded in the automotive and motorsport industry, and many Brookes graduates work at reputable companies suh as BMW, Porshce, etc, and racing teams such as McLaren, Red Bull, etc. Also, in the past, Brookes, together with BMW, offered an engineering management course, which allows students to spend 6 months working at BMW (this course is not offered anymore for some reason). Also, a former formula 1 chamption, Fernando Alonso, offered scholarships to Spanish students to study engineering courses at Brookes.

https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/united-kingd...?language=en_GB

https://www.brookes.ac.uk/about-brookes/new...nts-at-brookes/

Also, we have a student team, which designs and builds human-driven and self-driving f1 style race cars, and take part in motorsport competitions worldwide, and we have the most success in Formula Student, which is present in many countries:

UK - https://www.imeche.org/events/formula-student
Germany - https://www.formulastudent.de/fsg/results/2019/
Netherlands - https://www.formula-student.nl/
US - https://www.fsaeonline.com/ (This is called Formula SAE, organized by SAE international)

Wiki and past winners - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_Student
Brookes' team - https://obr.brookes.ac.uk/

Formula Student is a great opportunity for students to get hands-on experience. I, myself, was part of the autonomous team; we designed and built a self-driving race car, and I did software engineering, embedded system engineering, and project management.

Our department's research is focused on electric vehicles, energy, sustainability, autonomous driving, and much more, but we are not as research-intensive as the russell group universities, which is why Brooke's isn't ranked highly at all in QS or Times rankings.

I do agree that Oxford Brookes is obviously not as prestigious as Durham, Warwick, UCL, etc, but it is not exactly a bad university either. Based on what I've seen on this forum and Singapore hardwarezone forum, a lot of people seem to consider Brookes a 'mickey mouse' university, partly because of its weird name, its low rank compared to the russell group universities, and because of the nature of the BSc degree it offers via partnership with ACCA. However, what they're not aware of is that Brookes is actually very reputable for engineering, architecture, hospitality management (a highly vocational subject so you may dismiss), and great for its construction management courses (like real estate, building, etc), and a few life science courses which are vocational in nature (nursing, physiotherapy, etc).

Please feel free to ask any questions.
