Unker want to further study, just to prevent brain rot, not because I am not happy with my current profession. So what should I go for in the next 10 years?

Money is not an issue; the ROI will be the most important deciding factor. Also, what career to avoid?

In this age of AI/automation, it seems like the traditional business school/MBA/accounting masters are no longer worth it.

How to stop being depressed about Malaysia's futur

I already tried very hard not to read any political/economic news. But all these Islamisation happening in our country just keeps distracting me from work. Seems like our country is stuck in a limbo, and all the signs are pointing towards the negative side.

Any tips on how to tune out all the negative news and live happily as a Malaysian?

My only idea is to lie to myself and remind myself that Malaysia is the best country and there is nothing I can do to help improve Malaysia on the individual level. Every day bersyukur and don't give a crap about how our country will develop. Who gives a fk if SGD hits RM4.00 against the Ringgit right? just travel less and spend money in our own country [sob]

That's the only solution i can think of. I need some ideas from you all.

Singapore will continue to dominate

https://www.wsj.com/articles/singapores-mom...kets_major_pos1

"Singapore, Hong Kong’s longtime rival, is having a moment as Hong Kong struggles with the fallout from its political crackdown and China sends decidedly mixed signals on its own openness to foreign capital.

The Southeast Asian city-state is also dealing with the sudden downsides of success: namely, an epic surge in housing prices. To keep the march it has stolen on Hong Kong, it will need to tame its housing market—and demonstrate that it truly is neutral territory in the intensifying competition between the U.S. and China.

Singapore has some distinct advantages. Unlike Hong Kong, it is its own nation state, meaning it isn’t hostage to the capricious political winds from Beijing that proved so damaging to Hong Kong during the pandemic and in the aftermath of the 2019 protests. This included a draconian national-security law; asset freezes targeting government critics; the arrest of nearly the entire political opposition; and an onerous, epidemiologically questionable 21-day Covid quarantine. Singapore also has a unique, managed float currency regime, which provides it more flexibility than Hong Kong’s dollar peg.

Perhaps most important, Singapore has invested heavily in public housing and largely avoided the land-price bubbles that have damaged Hong Kong’s manufacturing sector, stoked inequality and inhibited the growth of new industries such as tech."

>>>>

Wall Street Journal, the most reputable financial news, is claiming that Singapore is having its most prosperous moments in history. Malaysia, on the other hand, is still busy dealing with racial tensions and political turmoil. I am so sick of this country. Every year we are progressing backwards, not forward. Time to give up on any hope and move quickly before the gate is closed one day, cause now all the foreigners will flood to Singapore.

That's why I don't get why so many people are optimistic when we changed government last year. Because absolutely nothing has changed after the new government except maybe some liberal policies. It is almost impossible to close the gap since our country has fallen behind so much. Literal sinking ship Lmao

Total lightning strike/hr in KL is just ridiculous

I just moved to KL one year ago and I am new to the lightning strikes in KL. But they are literally so annoying and I am scared to walk outside at night due to the extremely frequent lightning strikes. I currently don't have a car so I have to walk some distance to buy something at a supermarket nearby. And I can't even do it because of the danger of being struck by lightning. How do KL people survive walking on the streets at night without cover all this time? I am very curious. Just bring car is it?

Also, I just know that Kuala Lumpur is one of the most lightning-intensive capitals in the world. Lol

"Asia
The three regions in Asia with the most thunderstorms are all in Pakistan. Violent thunderstorms with intense electrical activity develop there in July and August, especially in Daggar in the Hindu Kush foothills. The highest monthly lightning frequency in the world has been observed here in August, exceeding even that of the most thunderstorm-prone months in the Congo. In Rajouri, in the far west of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, violent thunderstorms with tornadoes, heavy hailstorms and flooding are also observed during the monsoon. These regions are located at the foot of the Himalayas and have the greatest amount of electrical activity during the monsoon months between May and October, and especially in August and September. Again, the most violent thunderstorms occur at the foothills. In these regions, the warm, moist air of the southwestern monsoon from the Arabian Sea meets the cold, dry air descending from the Tibetan Plateau.

The lightning climatology of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, is also interesting. With an FRD of 93 lightning strikes per km2 per year, it ranks only tenth in Asia, but it is the world’s most lightning-prone capital city. Overall, Kuala Lumpur ranks number 52 in the 500 most lightning-prone regions of the world."

What unis do IBs usually recruit from?

I am curious about the list of universities that Malaysian investment banks hire from.

I've seen on Reddit that US investment banks hire from mostly Ivy League and reputable state schools. I am a student majoring in Math and I am wondering about the hiring/recruiting process here. And I would appreciate for any form of advice. On Reddit, the general advice is to network a lot, LinkedIn connections. Is it basically the same in Malaysia as well? How competitive is the job market for high finance in Malaysia right now? Is the demand for quantitative finance high in Malaysia especially for Math graduates?

A-level scholarship?

Which school/college provides the best scholarship for A-levels? I wanna make sure if TARC's scholarship is too good to be true. I heard some people say TARC A-levels not good compared to Sunway? Does the college that you study A-levels at matter when you apply for overseas universities? Do Sunway/other expensive A-level students stand a better chance to be admitted into the top universities? how does the system work?

My objective of studying A-level is to meet the basic requirement to at least have a shot at T100 universities. I am not too ambitious but I would like to know whether the college of choice will affect my admission into these schools? Maybe I am influenced by the Sunway advertisement propaganda but why does it seem like more Sunway A-level students get into T100 universities?

Thanks for any advice. I cannot afford Sunway
