EPF 2026

Starting 2026, EPF members can only withdraw “excess savings” if their account balance exceeds RM1.1 million.
The threshold will increase again to RM1.2 million in 2027 and RM1.3 million in 2028.

EPF says it’s part of their new Retirement Income Adequacy (RIA) framework, supposedly to ensure members “don’t run out of money” in old age. But in reality, most Malaysians can’t even come close to that amount.

According to EPF’s own data, 35% of members aged 54 have less than RM10,000 in savings & only around 2% have more than RM1 million.

So basically, this “excess savings” withdrawal only applies to the rich few, the rest of us can just watch.

We’re out here earning RM3k–RM4k a month, paying rent, bills, and groceries that keep going up, and they expect us to hit RM1.1 million before we can touch our own money?

Feels like they just want to make it impossible for us to withdraw, while pretending it’s for our “retirement protection.”

Not saying everyone should drain their EPF early... but let’s be real, these thresholds are out of touch with reality. Median salary’s around RM3,000, fresh grads barely earn RM2.5k, and even mid-level workers can’t save that much with current living costs.

We’re basically cheap labour with expensive expectations.

Instead of raising withdrawal limits for the rich, maybe fix the low wage system first.

Retrenchment Benefits in Malaysia

Guys..

Lately I’ve been hearing more cases of restructuring and retrenchment, especially in bigger companies. Just wondering... for those who’ve been through it before, how much did you all get as ex-gratia or retrenchment benefits?

From what I understand, under the Employment Act 1955 (as at 1 Jan 2023), anyone earning more than RM4,000/month is not covered under Section 60J, which means technically the company doesn’t have to pay retrenchment benefits. So whatever ex-gratia they give is more of a goodwill gesture.

I’m curious what’s the general practice out there, like how many months’ pay per year of service, or was it just a lump sum? And which industry were you in when it happened?

Trying to get a rough idea of what’s considered “fair” nowadays. Appreciate if you guys can share your experiences. 🙏

Why do people still go to Singapore? You earn more

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of news about old people dying alone in HDB flats in Singapore.

Honestly it feels quite sad… they worked their whole life, but end up passing away quietly, nobody even noticed until days later. Makes me think... is that really the kind of “success” people want?

I know the pay there is good, and many Malaysians go there to work, earn SGD, send money home, etc. But at what cost? You earn more, but life there is so fast-paced, stressful, and lonely.

Is it really worth it?

Why do people still go to Singapore when the quality of life (mentally and emotionally) seems so tough?

Curious to hear from those who’ve actually lived or worked there... are you genuinely happy, or just surviving because of the money?

Not trying to bash or anything, just want honest opinions.

What do you all think?

Is MLM Still Working in 2025? Anyone Here Still Ma

Hi guys,

Just curious... is MLM (multi-level marketing) still working these days in Malaysia? I remember years ago there were tons of companies promoting health supplements, skincare, water filters, etc., with people saying they could earn 4–5 figures a month.

But lately I don’t hear much about it anymore.

A few questions for those with experience:

1) Is MLM still a viable income source in 2025, or has it mostly died out?
2) What kind of average income does a newbie usually make nowadays (realistically, not marketing talk)?
3) Are there still legitimate MLMs operating, or mostly scams / pyramid-style schemes now?
4) What’s your personal experience, did you actually make profit, or lose money in the end?
5) If MLM isn’t working anymore, what other side-income options are people doing now instead?

Not trying to bash or promote anything... just want honest, real-world opinions from those who’ve tried.

Thanks in advance!

I would like to know how much can a legal advisor earn per month with less than a year experience? I do not know if I should pursue studies and even if I do, I am looking at the legal industry. However, I do not intend to practice. I know I'm ridiculous but I heard it is the norm in legal industry. Hehe advice pls..
