Fahmi want you all to stop sharing stormfury

‘Think of the families’: Fahmi calls on platforms to act against graphic accident videos

QUOTE

PUTRAJAYA, June 8 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today urged social media platforms to act more swiftly against the spread of graphic images and videos online, saying such content can cause further distress to victims’ families and potentially interfere with investigations.

Speaking to reporters after the Ministerial Dialogue and Media Roundtable on Safe and Responsible Suicide Reporting at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), Fahmi said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is looking to broaden its definition of online harm to include graphic or “gory” content.

a have increased by less than 10 per cent since 1983 despite a significant rise in project complexity and...

“From the communications side, particularly through MCMC, we want to widen and expand the definition of online harm. This includes content that may be graphic in nature, such as car crash images,” he said.

Fahmi noted that many people routinely share dashcam recordings of road accidents on social media without considering the impact on those directly affected.

“Firstly, for the victims and their families, I think many people would agree that we should respect them. Secondly, there are aspects involving investigations,” he said.

He said social media platforms should work more closely with authorities and immediately act to limit the circulation of such content.

“As for cooperation with the platforms, they should immediately take action to reduce the spread of this type of content,” he added.

Fahmi cited the recent fatal crash in Kedah involving six members of the same family as an example, noting that dashcam footage of the incident had been widely circulated online.

The accident occurred near Sungai Petani yesterday when a lorry collided with a Proton X50 carrying the family, killing six people while a toddler survived with injuries.

“Just imagine what it is like for the family to see such footage without any filter,” Fahmi said.

He expressed hope that the Online Safety Committee would consider the issue and engage social media platforms on stronger measures to curb the dissemination of graphic content.

“We want the platforms themselves to take action,” he said.

The minister was speaking after a dialogue focused on safe and responsible reporting of suicide, where participants discussed the role of media organisations, digital platforms and regulators in reducing harmful online content.

TikTok was among the social media platforms represented at the event. However, Fahmi noted that “the blue box” app was absent.

The video he's talking about the X50 went offlane and head on with the lorry. I felt that in that case, the video need to be circulated, or people will be doing some stupid speculation and immediately go after the lorry driver.

Same Statement, Two Different Interpretation

Here is how two different journalist interpret the same statement from Anwar and titled their articles.

News 1
SEREMBAN (May 15): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia will not consider any pardon application involving fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low.
He said the matter was a non-issue for the Malaysian government as court proceedings involving the individual were still ongoing.
“It’s a non-issue. We are not going to consider that. No,” he told reporters after officiating the 2026 National Youth Day (HBN) celebration here on Friday.
Title : PMX: we dun accept any pardon for Jho Low
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5564689

News 2
SEREMBAN: Malaysia will not intervene in fugitive financier Low Taek Jho's reported application for a pardon from US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
He said the matter rested solely with the US government and was not for Malaysia to pursue formally.
"We are not supporting that route. But of course, it's the United States, their own business," he told reporters after officiating the national-level 2026 National Youth Day celebration here.
Title : Anwar: Jho Low's US pardon application is 'none of Malaysia's business'
https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2026/05/...aysias-business

I don't know what's the exact sentence Anwar actually said, but having journalist writing two different sentence and different meaning, shows the state our our journalist integrity today.

Anwar Ibrahim kena scam

QUOTE

Dodgy content and shady deals
Misleading social media content has made some people take extreme measures, which has left them in difficult situations.

Like Catherine, Anwar Ibrahim became eager to work in Australia after seeing posts about the amount of money that could be made on a WHV.

Mr Ibrahim wanted to improve his family's finances and save for the future.

"I wanted to go after seeing influencers in Australia showing off the beauty of life there and the promise of high wages," he said.

A short-haired guy smiling to camera.
Anwar Ibrahim was eager to work in Australia with a WHV but ended up being scammed. (Supplied)

To get a WHV, he needed a letter of support from the Indonesian government.

He tried to obtain one on his own, but failed.

WHV conditions for Indonesians applicants
Be 18 to 30 years old
Have a tertiary qualification - degree, graduate certificate or diploma - or have studied at university for two years
Have evidence of English language proficiency
Letter of support (SDUWHV)
Passport valid for at least 12 months
No dependent children coming with
Proof of at least $5,000 in the bank
Meet health and character requirements
Not had visa cancelled or application refused
Sign the Australian values statement
Source: Home Affairs department

Out of desperation, he turned to someone who claimed to have a link to Indonesia's immigration office and could get the letter for him for $4,500.

Mr Ibrahim borrowed money from his parents who sold their rice fields to help him chase his dreams.

He later found out he had been scammed and sent a fake document.

Because he had used the bogus letter in his visa application, it was rejected and he now faces an uphill battle to move to Australia.

"It's hard to save up enough money to buy back the rice fields, and borrowing from other people is probably also difficult," he said.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-12-19/whv-...ians-/106122868

I never understand KLIA security check

KLIA 1 security doesn't make sense to me compared to other Airports I encounter. Probably least efficient.

Why they need to have 2 times security? One entering at terminal building, and before entering the individual gate.
Furthermore, the one at the gate have to take out laptop from the bag.

Other airport just one comprehensive check before entering terminal and you can head straight to the gate without checks already. Don't even need to take out laptop.

cc. Anthony Loke must resign

Najib : Malaysia should implement vacancy tax

QUOTE

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia must adopt targeted measures, including a vacancy tax, to tackle its persistent housing overhang and make homeownership more attainable for the B40 and M40 income groups, says Universiti Teknologi Malaysia associate professor in property economics Dr Muhammad Najib Razali.

Najib explained that the ongoing mismatch between the homes being built and what people can actually afford reveals deep-rooted structural inefficiencies that can no longer be ignored.

Malaysia's price-to-income ratio stood at 9.78 in 2022, over three times the widely accepted global benchmark of 3.0, clearly showing that many lower- and middle-income households still find owning a home financially out of reach.

He added that affordability is further undermined by barriers to mortgage eligibility, as many families struggle with unstable incomes or poor credit histories.

To break this cycle, Najib recommends introducing a vacancy tax, a charge on empty residential units, which would discourage developers and investors from holding unsold properties purely for speculation. Such a tax, he said, would incentivise developers to adjust prices to match real demand or to repurpose excess inventory into more affordable or alternative housing options.

He stressed that without bold structural reforms like this, the gap between supply and demand will persist, and many Malaysians will continue to be priced out of owning a home.

Cities like Vancouver, Melbourne and Singapore have shown that vacancy-related taxes or holding penalties can deter speculation, match supply with actual demand and speed up the release of idle housing stock, he said.

"These examples show that vacancy-related taxes or holding penalties can effectively align market supply with demand, deter speculative behaviour and stimulate the release of housing stock. This makes such a policy highly relevant for addressing Malaysia's prolonged property overhang."

While price is critical, Najib stressed that affordable housing must also be liveable and accessible. Many lower-cost units remain empty because they are built in fringe or poorly connected areas, driving up commuting costs and discouraging buyers.

"The government should integrate housing policy with urban mobility planning by expanding the public transportation network, particularly rail and bus routes, into developing and high-demand corridors.

"This would enhance the liveability and attractiveness of affordable homes, ensuring higher uptake rates and reducing the mismatch between supply and demand," he said.

To improve homeownership access, Najib suggested that the government should develop custom mortgage schemes tailored to the financial realities of the lower- and middle-income Malaysians.

He said such measures could cap monthly repayments as a percentage of household income, making them more manageable for lower-income earners.

He added that such schemes should be backed by government guarantees or a dedicated housing finance fund to reduce lending risk for banks and encourage wider participation, providing a safety net in the event of defaults and giving financial institutions the confidence to lend to segments traditionally seen as high-risk.

"Banks also should be incentivised, through regulatory support or financial incentives, to adopt more flexible credit assessments for first-time buyers.

"This may include alternative evaluations beyond traditional credit scores, such as employment consistency, rental history, or utility bill payments.

"By combining risk-sharing mechanisms with inclusive underwriting practices, Malaysia can significantly expand mortgage accessibility for underserved populations and bridge the gap between housing supply and genuine buyer demand," Najib said, pointing to international examples such as Colombia's Mi Casa Ya, India's Credit-Linked Subsidy Scheme, and Singapore's HDB concessionary loans as adaptable models.

Public-private partnerships must also be strengthened, Najib said, with the government offering land incentives, tax breaks or infrastructure support to encourage developers to build affordable, well-located homes priced below RM300,000 without compromising quality.

He also called for a revamp of the National Property Information Centre (NAPIC) to provide more detailed, up-to-date data on local demand, income levels and preferred housing types.

He stated that the property overhang stems from a disconnect between what is built and what people can afford or need, particularly at the local level.

"Incorporating predictive analytics into NAPIC's tools can help forecast demand trends and prevent future mismatches that lead to overbuilding in the wrong segments.

"Ultimately, stronger data governance and planning will ensure that housing development is targeted, responsive and equitable, supporting a more efficient and sustainable housing market," he added.

Najib further recommended repurposing unsold or outdated units for alternative uses like rental housing, co-living, student accommodation or senior-friendly homes.

Incentives like refurbishment grants or tax relief can help developers convert stagnant stock into homes that meet real demographic needs, he added.

https://www.nst.com.my/property/2025/06/123...ousing-overhang

Anyone experienced any difficulties or tricks when developer provide the lawyers for your SPA and Loan Agreement signing?
I'm talking about reputable developers like Sunway, SP Setia, Sime Darby etc.

Online wisdom say better get own lawyer to review, but cost quite expensive. And I think long time developer wont' dare to pull this type of tricks or else name already smelly in the industry.
Should I proceed and just rely on their lawyers for pre launch projects?

Is there speed limit for Powerline?

Just subscribed to Maxis 500mbps. The modem in my house upstairs store room. While wifi connection upstairs isn't an issue, downstairs is just horrible, which speed barely reaching 60mbps near the stairs.

I would like to setup a mesh node downstairs via a Powerline Ethernet cable for better speed and was eyeing the TP-Link AV1300 Gigabit Passthrough Powerline Starter Kit (TL-PA8010P).

However I'm just worried is there a speed limit when using a powerline adapter. I've heard that it may depend on your house electrical wiring quality and some copper cables may have a speed limit despite using a faster powerline adapter.

Please advice.

Let's say you're given an opportunity to perform a dishonest act in return for monetary gains. However as a consequences of doing this dishonest act, you will have to :

1. Never see your friends and family again
2. You'll have to leave this country
3. You have to always live in hiding, never able to show your face in public
4. You can't simply buy cars, properties or travel freely. Everything have to go 3rd party
5. Probably have to go face reconstruction surgery at worse
