PETALING JAYA: The Negeri Sembilan legislative assembly will be dissolved tomorrow, paving the way for the 16th state election to be held within 60 days.

Menteri besar Aminuddin Harun said the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, had consented to his request to dissolve the state assembly.

“The assembly will be dissolved effective tomorrow, June 5,” he said.

The move follows weeks of political tension, triggered last month when all 14 Umno-Barisan Nasional assemblymen in the state announced that they had withdrawn their support for Aminuddin over his handling of the controversy involving four chieftains who sought to remove Tuanku Muhriz as Yang di-Pertuan Besar.

Umno’s central leadership subsequently ordered its assemblymen to continue backing the state government, but both Pakatan Harapan and Umno leaders publicly called for dissolution as the cleanest resolution.

“There is nothing surprising about this dissolution; people have already known about it since Wednesday. I am just confirming it today,” said Aminuddin, the Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan chairman.

“We believe we need to return the mandate to the people to decide the future of Negeri Sembilan.”

He added that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the PH chairman, also had an audience with Tuanku Muhriz regarding the state assembly’s dissolution today.

Aminudin also said PH aimed to contest all 36 seats and had finalised seat distributions among the coalition’s components.

PH won 17 of the 36 seats in the 2023 Negeri Sembilan election and formed the state government with BN, which secured 14 seats. Perikatan Nasional won the remaining five.

In the 2018 state election, PH went head-to-head with BN and emerged victorious with 20 seats, while BN secured the remaining 16.

🚨Please be vigilant! Don't easily trust renovation or repair advertisements on social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.🚨

This is my personal experience, and I hope to share it to prevent more people from being scammed.

Recently, my brother saw a "professional leak repair" advertisement on Facebook. After clicking it, he was directly redirected to WhatsApp to contact the person. They claimed to offer free leak detection services and arranged for an on-site inspection.

Upon arriving at his home, he learned from his accent that the person was a Chinese technician who claimed his company had been operating in Kuala Lumpur for 9 years. He stated that he possessed professional equipment that could accurately detect the source of leaks, without needing to knock down walls or floor tiles; he only needed to drill a small hole and inject a special chemical agent to seal the leak. The entire project was supposed to take about an hour, and they promised a 3-year warranty, allowing us to return for repairs at any time.

They stated the chemical agent cost RM388 per kilogram. We initially thought we only needed two or three kilograms, but unexpectedly, 20.8 kilograms were injected during the process, ultimately costing over RM8,000!

Although we were shocked by the price, considering that traditional methods would require knocking down walls and floor tiles for repairs, which would also be expensive and take several days, we still paid. However, they used a local friend, Koh Tai Wai's, CIMB bank account to receive the payment, saying it was a trusted friend and would be transferred back to him later. We felt something was off, but didn't ask further. The next day, the bathroom floor tiles suddenly bulged and warped! We immediately tried to contact them, but they didn't answer the phone or reply to messages; they were completely unreachable. Only then did we realize we'd been scammed.

Hey! Chinese people! If you're here in Malaysia to do honest business, we're willing to pay reasonable fees for professional services. But using the guise of a 90-day visa-free travel policy and exaggerated advertising on social media, enticing consumers with so-called high-tech tests and special drugs, then disappearing after collecting exorbitant fees—this behavior is truly infuriating!

⚠️ A reminder:

• Don't easily trust repair advertisements on social media platforms.

• Always obtain a detailed written quote before any repairs are done.

• Check the company's registration information and genuine reviews.

• Be wary of exaggerated claims such as "no need to knock down walls," "no need to remove bricks," or "quick fix."

• If the cost increases unusually, stop work immediately and demand an explanation.

• It's best not to PM them (for personal matters) to avoid getting into trouble.

TOGETHER WILL JOIN PRN JOHOR 2026, KANCIL TOUR BEGINS IN JOHOR

We confirm that TOGETHER will participate in Johor State Election 2026.

The decision was finalized after several discussions held with TOGETHER leadership and elected members from across the country. Further discussion with representatives of SAMA members from Johor to identify the seats to be contested has been scheduled for today.

PRN Johor 2026 opens space to introduce TOGETHER to Johor voters, although TOGETHER is less than a month old since it was relaunched last 17 May.

Participation TOGETHER in PRN Johor 2026 also enables TOGETHER to build election machinery in a short period of time and test the efficiency and weaknesses of the machinery, in preparation towards the upcoming elections.

Coinciding with this wish, the TOGETHER tour series to the states will start in Johor on June 6, 2026 (Saturday) at Danga Bay Convention Centre at 8 pm.

The tour series called the Council Tour will focus on 12 TOGETHER Agendas, with each state concentrating on one agenda.

Vehicle owners should expect higher servicing and maintenance costs starting this month due to the knock-on effects of engine oil prices increasing a month earlier. Industry players told The Star the uncertainty in global energy markets resulting from the ongoing conflict in West Asia may affect the pricing of other vehicle maintenance products such as spare parts and tyres.

Speaking to the news outlet, Ken Ng, who runs a vehicle spare parts shop in Section 8, revealed engine oil prices increased by around 10% in May, with retail prices going up by between RM10 and RM25 for various lubricant products.

“Popular engine oils that move quickly are being restocked at higher prices. For now, we are still selling existing stock at the old price but once the new shipments arrive, the increases will have to be passed on to customers,” he said, adding that this could affect the broader automotive aftermarket industry.

“This is unavoidable. Vehicle maintenance cannot be postponed indefinitely regardless of whether prices go up or not. Since the day I got into this business four decades ago, prices have only gone up and never down,” said Ng. “Even the plastic bags we use to pack the items we sell have gone up in price because they are petroleum-based products,” he continued, adding that some consumers are switching to cheaper engine oils.

Meanwhile, PS Tyres & Battery Auto Services manager Teoh Yong Wah echoed a similar tune by saying suppliers have already informed dealers to expect price revisions from June onwards. “Engine oil prices went up in May. Suppliers have also indicated that tyre and spare parts prices could also rise from June but we have not been told exactly when the increases will take effect,” he said.

“Smaller and cheaper parts may only see a slight increase and vehicle owners may not feel the difference immediately. However, when several items go up at the same time, the cost adds up,” he added.

Some car owners like Jacqueline Cha say a 10% increase in maintenance costs would still be manageable for her family’s two vehicles. “Fortunately, we own reliable car models with widely available and affordable replacement parts, which helps keep our maintenance costs under control,” she said.

Ahead of an expected price hike, Cha said she had sent her cars for servicing, including engine oil and tyre changes, which saved her about RM200. “But whether prices rise by 10% or even more, vehicle maintenance is essential. Delaying or skipping servicing can lead to more costly repairs later due to premature wear and tear on the engine,” she added.

BANGKOK: Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Tuesday directed immediate discussions with Malaysia following its temporary ban on imports of five Thai shrimp species, warning that prolonged restrictions could hurt shrimp farmers, exporters and the broader seafood supply chain.

The directive came after Malaysia's Agriculture and Food Security Ministry announced a temporary suspension on imports of five Thai shrimp species effective June 1 as part of tighter controls on fisheries products from Thailand.

The affected species are Penaeus esculentus (brown tiger prawn), Fenneropenaeus merguiensis (banana prawn), Penaeus vannamei (whiteleg shrimp), Penaeus monodon (giant tiger prawn) and Penaeus stylirostris (blue shrimp).

Government spokesman Ratchada Thanadirek said Anutin who is also the interior minister, issued the directive during the cabinet meeting, citing the importance of safeguarding the livelihoods of shrimp farmers and workers across the industry's supply chain.

"If the issue is allowed to persist, it could affect farm-gate shrimp prices and the incomes of small-scale farmers," she said in a statement following the Cabinet meeting at Government House on Tuesday.

Ratchada said the prime minister had instructed the deputy prime minister and commerce minister, together with the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry, to hold urgent discussions with Malaysian authorities to seek a solution that protects bilateral trade while ensuring Thai farmers do not bear the burden alone.

"The prime minister emphasised that this issue must not become a burden borne solely by farmers, as the shrimp industry supports an entire supply chain, including farms, collectors, processing plants, exporters and a large workforce," she said.

She added that relevant agencies had also been directed to prepare measures to cushion the impact of the restriction, including stabilising farm-gate prices, managing any surplus domestic supply and accelerating efforts to secure alternative export markets.

Residents in Malaysia’s Manjung district are reportedly living in fear after a series of break-ins involving armed robbers, with the latest case involving a family of nine allegedly being held hostage by knife-wielding intruders inside their home.

The terrifying incident reportedly took place at around 3am in Kampung Koh New Village, Sitiawan, Perak.

According to reports, three masked robbers dressed in dark clothing allegedly broke into the family’s house while everyone was asleep.

The suspects reportedly covered most of their faces and exposed only their eyes during the robbery.

FAMILY INCLUDING CHILDREN THREATENED WITH KNIVES

The victims said the robbers managed to enter the home by breaking through a kitchen window after prying open iron bars and removing glass panels.

CCTV footage reportedly captured the suspects sneaking into the property before confronting members of the household.

The family said there were nine people inside the home during the incident, including five adults and four children.

According to the elderly homeowner, the robbers first confronted his eldest daughter downstairs after she woke up upon hearing noises inside the house.

The suspects allegedly threatened her with knives and forced her upstairs, where the remaining family members sleeping in two bedrooms were also held at knifepoint.

The traumatised family said they were too terrified to resist after suddenly waking up to see three armed masked men standing in front of them in the middle of the night.

The robbers allegedly ordered each family member to reveal where cash and gold jewellery were kept inside the house.

Reports stated that the suspects spent around 30 minutes searching the home before fleeing with stolen valuables.

RESIDENTS FEAR MORE BREAK-INS AFTER STRING OF ROBBERIES

The latest case has reportedly caused panic among residents in the Manjung district, especially after multiple similar break-ins were said to have taken place in nearby areas including Ayer Tawar and Sitiawan since mid-May.

The family involved in the robbery said they are still traumatised and struggled to sleep the following night after the incident.

They added that although no one in the house was physically injured, the image of armed masked intruders suddenly appearing beside them while they slept continues to haunt them.

The case has also sparked discussions online, with many netizens expressing concern over rising burglary cases and home security in residential neighbourhoods.

Police investigations into the robbery are reportedly ongoing.

PETALING JAYA: Former minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz has expressed his readiness to be fielded by PKR to challenge Rafizi Ramli in the Pandan parliamentary seat in the next general election (GE16).

Tengku Zafrul, the senior political adviser to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, however said this was subject to the PKR central leadership’s decision on its candidate, Berita Harian reported.

“I am ready to contest anywhere if given the opportunity to do so. It is up to the party to decide,” he was quoted as saying.

Tengku Zafrul nonetheless said his recent presence in Pandan was focused on serving the people there, adding that he has not been actively thinking about taking on Rafizi at the polls.

“Yes, I may be facing a political giant if I’m fielded and if he decides to contest here again. But what’s more important is that I work and serve, whether in Pandan, Ampang or anywhere I’m assigned to,” said the former two-term senator.

There has been speculation that PKR could field Tengku Zafrul in Pandan to challenge Rafizi, the former PKR deputy president who has moved to Parti Bersama Malaysia and intends to defend the parliamentary seat.

Rafizi, a former economy minister, has represented Pandan for two terms. He resigned as Pandan MP earlier this month before quitting PKR to take over Bersama.

Tengku Zafrul used to be from Umno but joined PKR in August last year.

In the 2022 general election, he contested the Kuala Selangor seat but lost to Amanah vice-president Dzulkefly Ahmad by 1,002 votes, as the latter was elected to a third term as its MP.

PETALING JAYA: Warnings of severe traffic congestion during the upcoming long holiday period could unintentionally discourage domestic tourists from visiting Penang and other destinations.

The Malaysia Budget and Business Hotel Association (MyBHA) warned that these statements could hurt local travel.

Its national president Dr Sri Ganesh Michiel said public safety and traffic management remained important.

However, he noted that repeated messaging on overcrowding and travel difficulties risked creating fear among travellers.

He added that this could hurt the tourism industry, which was still rebuilding confidence.

Sri Ganesh said communication should focus on preparedness, safe travel planning and encouraging tourism rather than creating unnecessary anxiety.

"The tourism and hospitality industry is still in the process of strengthening recovery and rebuilding confidence," he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 27).

"During previous festive and holiday periods, similar statements regarding extraordinary traffic conditions were issued," he added.

He noted that hotel occupancy rates in many areas still remained about 50%, which was far below expectations and industry projections.

He said negative perceptions affected not only hotels but also restaurants, retail businesses, tourism attractions and transport operators.

The issue also impacts event organisers, local traders and tourism workers dependent on visitor arrivals.

The association encouraged travellers to choose licensed accommodation providers, make hotel bookings early, reserve directly with hotels and plan journeys properly.

"Malaysia remains a welcoming and safe tourism destination, and Penang continues to be one of the country’s most vibrant tourism hubs," Sri Ganesh said.

He added that the state offers culture, heritage, food, beaches and hospitality experiences for both domestic and international visitors.

Authorities had earlier projected that about two million visitors would enter Penang during the May 27 to June 2 period.

This influx is due to overlapping school holidays and festive breaks, with heavier traffic expected across major routes into the state.

The holiday period is also expected to bring increased traffic volumes nationwide as multiple public holidays coincide with school breaks.
