Will ex-company come after me for unserved notice?

Hi, wanted to ask about this.

Relevant details:
- Current company is big MNC. Notice period is 3 months, but I intend to only give 1 month (or less) notice
- Accepted new job overseas, but told new company no need buyout as the visa will take time anyway, so I can just serve full notice at my current company
- However in the end I decided to hold off resigning until visa etc is settled just in case something happens, which means I will probably resign with ~1 month notice

Officially of course it's in the contract that they reserve the right to demand that I pay salary in-lieu of any notice not served, but wondering if they will actually come after the money? If I just don't pay what will they usually do? My 2 months salary is nothing for them, so hoping they will just let it go lol
