The same sort of idea can be applied to net security: when all the net security people you know are freaking out, it’s probably an okay time to worry.

This afternoon, many of the net security people I know are freaking out. A very serious bug in OpenSSL — a cryptographic library that is used to secure a very, very large percentage of the Internet’s traffic — has just been discovered and publicly disclosed.

Even if you’ve never heard of OpenSSL, it’s probably a part of your life in one way or another — or, more likely, in many ways. The apps you use, the sites you visit; if they encrypt the data they send back and forth, there’s a good chance they use OpenSSL to do it. The Apache web server that powers something like 50% of the Internet’s web sites, for example, utilizes OpenSSL.

Through a bug that security researchers have dubbed “Heartbleed“, it seems that it’s possible to trick almost any system running any version of OpenSSL from the past 2 years into revealing chunks of data sitting in its system memory.

Why that’s bad: very, very sensitive data often sits in a server’s system memory, including the keys it uses to encrypt and decrypt communication (read: usernames, passwords, credit cards, etc.) This means an attacker could quite feasibly get a server to spit out its secret keys, allowing them to read to any communication that they intercept like it wasn’t encrypted it all. Armed with those keys, an attacker could also impersonate an otherwise secure site/server in a way that would fool many of your browser’s built-in security checks.

And if an attacker was just gobbling up mountains of encrypted data from a server in hopes of cracking it at some point? They may very well now have the keys to decrypt it, depending on how the server they’re attacking was configured (like whether or not it’s set up to utilize Perfect Forward Secrecy.)

To drastically understate it: this is bad news.

The exploit relies on a bug in the implementation of OpenSSL’s “heartbeat” feature, hence the “Heartbleed” name.

It seems the bug has been in OpenSSL for 2+ years (since December 2011, OpenSSL versions 1.0.1 through 1.0.1f) before its publicly announced discovery today. Even worse, it appears that exploiting this bug leaves no trace in the server’s logs. So there’s no easy way for a system administrator to know if their servers have been compromised; they just have to assume that they have been.

The bug was discovered and reported to the OpenSSL team by Neel Mehta of Google’s security team. OpenSSL released an emergency patch for the bug along with a Security Advisory this afternoon. Security firm Codenomicon has written an in-depth breakdown of the Heartbleed bug here.

Monkey game

I'm looking for a game on Android where monkeys will hang on a few bars and throw coconuts at opposing monkey team. then got power up from the middle and the bars got HP where if hit it a few times will break.

Objective should be drop all monkeys to floor.

I know /k/ got many MS Excel sifu/pro so I kam ask for guidance. I google many times liao but I think my terms wrong so no result that I wan. So my question is like this:

I have 2 workbooks:

1) A (format done nicely for import & data processing then display)
2) B (raw data pulled from app)

How ken I add a button with macro/VBA inside workbook A to select and process then display the raw data from workbook B nice nice? i am noob so if got tutorials to rekomen i am most grateful liao.

Elephant poo coffee: The new world's most expensive coffee

Move aside civets, here comes another animal that is now making the most expensive coffee in the world - the Thai elephants.

The original 'poo coffee', kopi luwat or civet coffee, is produced by feeding the small cat-like creatures coffee fruits that are digested and excreted in droppings, and are then washed, dried and ground into coffee. Its digestion process gives the famed flavour of luwak.

Anantara Resorts in Thailand and Maldives are among the first hotels in the world to serve the new 'poo coffee', Black Ivory Coffee, which is created from a process where the coffee beans are digested and naturally refined by Thai elephants.

The gentle creatures are fed only Thai Arabica coffee beans grown at an altitude of 1,500 metres.

The enzymes of the elephant supposedly breaks down the coffee protein and since protein is one of the main factors responsible for bitterness in coffee, less protein means almost no bitterness in the coffee.

After the beans are ingested and excreted, as nature dictates, the individual beans are handpicked by elephant trainers and their wives, and are then dried in the sun.

Now, how expensive is Black Ivory Coffee? It retails at approximately US$1,100 (S$1,345) per kg, making it one of the most expensive and exclusive in the world along with civet coffee, which costs about US$600 per kg.

This would mean that a single cup can cost around US$50.

Only 50kg of Black Ivory Coffee are currently available for sale. Stock is limited and dependant on the elephants' efficiency, which is rather lacking - in order to produce just 1kg of Black Ivory Coffee, they must eat more than 33,000 beans.

In order to demonstrate the freshness while serving, the coffee is ground by hand at the table and brewed using technology developed in 1840 in Austria.

A consistent 93-degree Celsius temperature is required and the contact time between water and bean must be timely in order for a clean and flavourful taste.

If you're worried about the state of the elephants at the plantation, Anantara says part of the money paid for Black Ivory Coffee goes to helping the elephants rescued at its foundation, the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation, which has rescued 30 street elephants so far.

Eight per cent of all coffee sales will be donated to help fund a specialist elephant veterinarian, as well as to purchase medicine and build a new laboratory.

Hi guys, my com is experiencing sudden slowdowns after not rebooting for about a week or so. It gets to the point where my mouse pointer is moving sluggishly and opening the task manager takes a few minutes. Although rebooting solves the problem, I'm still curious as to why this is happening. Boot ups are fine and my com is scanned every week or so with only adware detected so far.
