Why most empty lot in KL, turn into car park

I'm not sure either you all ktard notice that most empty lot, is turn into a car park where it managed by ....

There is an open car park at one of the medan selera in brickfields. It suppose to be free, but today suddenly got few persons so rajin control the place and ask for daily parking fee.

There is no sign board who managed the car park, how much the fees and duration of the operating hours.

ermmm... y this biz is control by one community? is it legal?

Indonesian restaurateur wins "kopitiam" copyright

JAKARTA: The Indonesian courts have ruled in favour of a local restaurateur who claimed intellectual property rights over the word "kopitiam" - a Chinese word which means coffee shop.

The Jakarta Post ran a story today that in 2010, Abdul Alek Soelystio, the owner of Jakarta-based "Kopitiam", had sued "Kok Tong Kopitiam" in the Medan Administrative Court for using the word and won the case.

Abdul claimed he had registered intellectual property rights to "kopitiam" in 1996.

Unhappy with the outcome, "Kok Tong Kopitiam" owner Paimin Halim appealed to the Supreme Court, but the lower court's decision was merely upheld.

The report said, Abdul took out an advertisement in a national newspaper on Feb 6 this year warning other restaurateurs to immediately drop "kopitiam" from their brand identities.

Abdul's lawyers said that whoever used kopitiam could be charged with piracy.

The Intellectual Property Law provides for up to seven years' imprisonment for those convicted of intellectual piracy, although in practice violators are seldom sentenced to more than several months.

Indonesia Kopitiam Association chairman Mulyadi Praminta described the rulings in favour of Abdul as ridiculous.

"There was a similar case in Singapore. A company tried to copyright kopitiam as its own, but the government there rejected the request.

"It is shocking that we have a contradictory situation here," he remarked.

Mulyadi felt that the government should support the restaurant industry instead of providing special treatment to certain parties.

"The local industry deserves support from the government. We hire many people, we use local products, including coffee beans," he added.

Meanwhile Bondan Winarno, Indonesia's most famous gastronome and owner of the "Kopitiam Oey" chain, asserted over the weekend that no one should be allowed to copyright the word.

Bondan, the association's spokesman, asserted that kopitiam offered a local option that could rival international coffee shops in Indonesia. "Kopitiam is not our creation. The name does not belong to us, but to generations before us. It is not a brand but a signature of culinary culture as well as social assimilation," he emphasised. BERNAMA

Dear all,

Shirra Alissa George, 19 is a student at KLIMU, was reported missing on between 8.50pm to.9.05pm on Monday, 14th November 2011 along Jalan Bukit Indah 3/14, Bukit Indah, Ampang after disembarking from Rapid KL bus from KL city on her way home to Tiara Intan Condominium where she stays with her parents, Sarawakian.

Based a CCTV recording from nearby house, the incident occurred at about 9.00pm. She was abducted by at least three guys, believed to be in the twenties driving a black Proton Persona which was seen driven along the street from 8.50pm. Some of her personal belongings that was found at the scene was her handphone, a torned backpack with books scattered all over the ground and an empty purse.

What was so disheartening was that she made 2 attempts to call her parents but only after her third attempt her mother answered her her call and she was heard screaming asking for help and telling her mother..."ada orang kejar saya, ada orang kejar saya", the phone was quite. her dad and few residents rushed to the scene which was about 100 meters from the condo entrance but failed to locate her whereabouts.

I sincerely hope that you may kindly assist us, residents of Tiara Intan Condominium, to spread this news to friends, colleagues and relatives. Let's pray that the abductors would release her unharmed real soon.
