Andrej Karpathy, an artificial intelligence researcher who co-founded OpenAI before getting poached by Tesla
, announced on Tuesday that he’s joining Anthropic.

“I think the next few years at the frontier of LLMs will be especially formative,” Karpathy wrote in a post on X, referring to large language models. “I am very excited to join the team here and get back to R&D.”

Anthropic said Karpathy starts this week and will be building a team focused on using Claude to accelerate pretraining research, which helps the company’s models acquire their core knowledge and capabilities.

It’s the latest high-profile hire for Anthropic, which is poised to surpass OpenAI’s private market valuation and is in an intensifying battle for talent with its chief AI rival. Ross Nordeen, a founding member of xAI and an ex-Tesla employee, announced earlier this month he was joining Anthropic, the same day the company struck a deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to rent compute capacity at xAI’s Colossus 1 data center in Memphis, Tennessee.

After helping to start OpenAI, Karpathy left for Tesla
in 2017 to serve as director of AI. There, he led the computer vision team for Tesla Autopilot.

Musk recruited Karpathy away from OpenAI while the Tesla CEO was a board member at both tech companies. Karpathy’s work at OpenAI and Tesla came up repeatedly during the Musk v. Altman trial, which concluded on Monday, with the jury and judge ruling in OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s favor.

In one email exchange that was presented as an exhibit during the proceedings, Musk described Karpathy as “arguably the #2 guy in the world in computer vision,” behind Ilya Sutskever, another OpenAI co-founder.

“The OpenAI guys are gonna want to kill me, but it had to be done...,” Musk wrote, regarding his hiring of Karpathy.

Karpathy was one of several OpenAI employees Musk borrowed from OpenAI to do months of free work at Tesla, where the development of self-driving vehicles wasn’t going as quickly as promised. Karpathy left Tesla in 2022, and the company still doesn’t sell a vehicle that’s safe to use without a human driver ready to steer or brake at all times.

After leaving Tesla, Karpathy briefly went back to OpenAI before starting AI education startup Eureka Labs, where he has worked until now. Karpathy holds a PhD in computer science from Stanford.

SINGAPORE, May 13 – H&M has announced a major restructuring of its Asia-Pacific operations, relocating its South-east Asia regional headquarters from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur and eliminating approximately 30 per cent of its regional support workforce.

The changes, formally communicated to staff on May 11 will see the majority of redundancies take place in the Singapore office. Out of a regional headcount of 256 for the former East Asia region, 78 positions will be removed.

The restructuring is part of a broader evolution of H&M’s commercial operating model, which replaces existing regional layers with four new continents. Under the new structure, the newly formed Continent Asia Pacific (APAC) will be based in Shanghai and will oversee five sales markets.

As a result, the head office for the South-east Asia sales market will be located in Kuala Lumpur, while the Northeast Asia sales market will relocate to Tokyo. The APAC continent portfolio also includes India (hub in Bangalore), Australia & New Zealand (Sydney hub), and Greater China, which will share the Shanghai hub with the continent headquarters.

Staff will undergo a calibration process by May 21, 2026. Employees are required to complete an assessment survey nominating two priority roles, with placement decisions based on 2025 contribution ratings and recent disciplinary records instead of standard CV submissions.

Interviews and evaluations are scheduled between May 25 and June 19. Management has stated that employees will be informed of their final outcomes no later than mid-June. The consolidated structure and staff relocations are expected to be operational by July 1.

For employees whose roles are eliminated or reduced, mutual separation agreements will be proposed if an alternative position cannot be found within the new organisation. Specific details regarding separation packages will be communicated at a later date.

Internal records indicate that H&M implements similar regionalisation or structural changes on approximately an annual basis. While support functions in Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City are being offshored, and offices in Seoul and Manila are being downsized, the company has stated that all store-level operations and retail teams remain unaffected.

The broader restructuring plan was initially referenced during an internal briefing on April 16, 2026.

Lim is one of nearly 8,000 victims affected by a massive fire at the Kampung Bahagia water village early today.

Malaysia has declared the trade deal with the U.S. invalid after the Supreme Court ruled President Donald Trump‘s tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) illegal in February.

Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Malaysia’s Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister, told reporters that the U.S.-Malaysia Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) has been rendered ineffective. “It is not on hold. It is no longer there, it’s null and void,” said Johari, the New Straits Times reported on Sunday.

Johari told reporters that if tariffs were being justified based on a trade surplus, the authorities should clearly specify the industry involved and not impose blanket tariffs.

(March 11): Atlassian said on Wednesday it would lay off around 10% of its workforce, or 1,600 employees, to push into artificial intelligence and enterprise sales.

Shares of the enterprise software company rose nearly 2% in extended trading after Atlassian said it plans to "rebalance" its resources to focus on the "future of teamwork in the AI era."

The company said the majority of impacted employees are ⁠in North America, amounting to 40%, followed by 30% in Australia and 16% in India. It expects to incur about US$225 million to US$236 million in charges related to the layoffs and office space reductions.

"Our approach is not 'AI replaces people.' But it would be disingenuous to pretend AI doesn't change the mix of skills we need or the number of roles required in certain areas. It does," CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes said in a memo to employees.

The move comes as investors increasingly scrutinise software firms amid fears that advances in AI could disrupt traditional software business models, though some analysts say the sector-wide sell-off may be an overreaction.
