Bright blue light from apartment window

I see a bright blue light from apartment window nearby, apparently not from living room (it is dark), but either window of washroom or kitchen.

Gee.... Just started noticing it yesterday night, it is always on at night (not sure during daytime). I searched the Internet, there are various answer in international forum like: signs by drug dealer, or to commemorate police officer....

Have you encountered this? What is that bright blue light? (My camera was not able to capture the distant blue light, but eyes can see sharply)

Can forum have "sink" thread function?

Sometimes I found myself embarrassed for bumping a thread (by my new reply) started by myself, which is unpopular, and the subforum remains silent for days and I wish I could find a hole to hide (that is, "sink" my latest thread, to make it ' back-dated ' so that it only appears in 2nd page or later).

In Discuz! forum software, only moderator has the privilege to "bump" and "sink"(if that's the correct term) a thread.

If admin can consider "sink" thread function on LYN? I mean only the thread starter can sink his/her own thread (just like only TS can close his/her own topic).

Estimate water meter reading before MCO

Hi guys,

I need your input.

I have a water bill dated 13-Mar-2020 which amounted to about RM100. The water meter reading is estimated (got two 'E' besides each of the number).

It is impossible I use so much water during 28 days.

So I e-mail to Air Selangor, and she replied that it is currently MCO, all water bill is estimate reading.

I mentioned that the bill dated before MCO.

The customer service executive has never replied since then.

It is like paying RM 100 for nothing.

(Now I got CCTV proof that the Air Selangor guy came to the meter room exactly on that day, unlock it then take out his scanner from pocket.)

What should I do?

Can someone download the Windows 10 ISO and create a DVD installer using Microsoft Media Creation Tool?

My PC's BIOS / Outlook e-mail already has the digital license, I just need someone to burn the ISO as bootable DVD.

I am using Linux-based Chromium OS, which cannot burn Windows ISO to USB stick.

For safety concern, I am reluctant to visit cyber-cafe within this half year to create the bootable installer myself, so I need help from forumer / trader.

I am willing to pay RM 40 for a (Windows 10 Home - English - Single Language - 64-bit) DVD installer (no license required).

VB or Visual Basic was quite popular among programmers. Here's the simple list compiled stating the various VB and BASIC which I have heard or used before.

MobileVB

Along with the Palm OS, MobileVB provides templates for the Pocket PC, Symbian P800, and the Nokia Communicator.

For new millennial, you may not know what OS is this....?

Has anyone got the right guess? It is an OS, but used on different model of machine, that's why some screenshots are smaller than the others.

And ended up bank not open (6:53AM), KK mart and all mini market not yet open by the time I went home (7:30AM)...

I took electric bill with me, travel inside the residential area and shoplots, can't even able to buy kuih-muih (home-made cakes, etc)

Instead of empty handed home, I bought some from mamak stall.....

I heard that cannot travel more than 10km, so I am not dare to go to petrol station to refill air into the motorcycle's tyre.

Has anyone not come out at all during this MCO....? I should have borrow other thread to post this petty issue but could not find one.....

Anyway, it is quite thrilling to come out and buy foods...quite like a matter of life or death....

How to make profit from app if all open-source?

So my story went back to 22 years ago.......that time during college study, I created a lot of freeware, most are published together with source code.

Then one day I published a .ICO viewer /extracter DOS-based program, a Mat Salleh told me that he didn't expect that to be freeware, because of the higher complexity of source code..... It enlightened me for the first time in my life.... I realize that there is something should not be given away for free!

Until now, people encouraging open-source, so again I created some console app and go open-source.....not making any profit out of it.....

So, my question is, how is some able to promote open-source, while some is able to make profit from selling app... ?

Is profitable app shouldn't be open-source?

In fact, I have done one....... it view any image file as 16-color text in command line...... Just for fun....

Under Windows, (preferably Windows 10) Just drag your image file and drop it on GIF16.exe, a new console window will be opened showing the "image"......

* Compatible with Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.....not tested on Windows 8 / 7 (you might need .NET Framework 4 on older Windows)

Animated GIFs are supported as well. But keep the number of frames low or it takes longer to convert to characters...

Now that I posted a creative solution on GitHub about viewing image in console screen as colorful text.......I did it, but I don't know how to explain the essential part (DecreaseColor256)...... Can someone help?

The following code was converted from my legacy Pascal code written in 1999 for a .ICO viewer DOS-based project.

Now I barely understand what is the logic behind this 256-downto-16 color depth processing..... I know it take RGB and output 16-color code (or ConsoleColor in C#), but as to how it works..... it would take a lot of brain power....

I understand other people use R / 3 + G /3 + B /3, which is different than mine.... Any thoughts?

But Australian pronounce it same-sung

China nationals , san-xing. What about the original Koreans?

I asked this because of similar misunderstanding with "Hyundai"( and "Daihatsu", "Mitsubishi")

I thought it was Hyun-dai, but a Korean corrected me : Hyun-dae...

The same goes to Daihatsu and Mitsubishi because of the tsu....

What motivate you in coding?

Today I have to face this question, standing at the crossroads.
For quite a long time, it was passion / interest that motivated me in coding. Even though while I worked office coding job, I was mentally (and physically) there, but my heart (or passion for coding) was not there. But when I tried to be passionate about my coding job, it was often counter-productive and meant the end of my job there (why? I would try to use my own "creative" way to accomplish programming tasks rather than what I was told to).

Today I suddenly I realized that I have done enough for my own interest or passion in IT....that's included some fundamental understanding of OS kernel, bit manipulation, all things console or character user interface, and some bitmap handling....

Should I proceed in IT for money? Since I can't head onward anymore with passion. Simply can't.

Of course I do IT on and off for money, but now I will be doing IT for money, and because of money?

No one on the planet today is still on the planet 100 years later, maybe only a few .

The future generation may read our stories in their modern history.

It is like how I read ancient Egypt history, there was a great empire, with its glory.

Do you not sad when thinking about that? We cannot survive longer than we should. Be it chaos or world peace, 100 years later is not of our concern anymore.
