UPS battery replacement spec

I need to double-check since this can be a fire hazard if i f*ck up.

I am replacing batteries for Contronetix UPS V2000.
My home network and automation - AND CCTV - all out. Not even 2 years since I bought.

(Not considering replacing to a different UPS altogether due to the prohibitive price of purchasing 2000VA units anew.)

I already opened up one of the UPS unit, and retrieved the batteries.
They're 2 units of 12V9AH in serial configuration.

While I am not hung-up on which REPUTABLE brand to replace with (again, they're going to be unsupervised fire hazard), right now I chose GPP-1290 because GP battery spec explicitly mentioned these 2 points below, while other brands did not mention anything similar. Worst, I can see some GP batt sellers explicitly advertised green-coloured "for UPS" and buyers wrote testimonies of intending green-coloured for UPS.
- GP green-coloured batt comes with explicit warning NOT TO BE USED IN UPS.
- GP black-coloured batt comes with explicit mention that it can be used in UPS.

How do I make Sharp AndroidTV boot up and go to Android Home by default? instead of booting up and it default to Digital TV tuning.

This is possible on Sony AndroidTV, but I couldn't find similar setting to do so in sharp AndroidTV. The best I can do so far is to limit the number of presented input options (like, disable HDMI2, HDMI3, analogue jack, etc etc).

The family is already accustomed to looking at Android Home.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 — From government-linked and private corporations to public transportation, auxiliary police or polis bantuan as they are called in Malay, have played a pivotal role in maintaining public security as a law enforcement entity alongside their Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) counterparts.

There’s an estimated 4,000 active auxiliary police personnel stationed in over 70 agencies within Klang Valley alone, but how much do you know about the roles these men and women serve in crime prevention and law enforcement?

Malay Mail speaks to Kuala Lumpur Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Azman Ayob to find out more about this support police unit.

Auxiliary police officers, established in accordance with Part IX of the Police Act, are designated full-time employees of the agencies or corporations they serve, but are appointed by the Inspector-General of Police.

Under Section 47 of the same Act, they are empowered to perform policing duties in a designated area under the control of the auxiliary police officer’s serving agency.

They are remunerated on a slightly different scale than regular police officers because they are obliged to serve voluntarily as stipulated under Section 49A of the Police Act.

Auxiliary police officers share a similar hierarchy of police ranks with RMP, from constables to the most senior auxiliary police officer bearing the rank of Superintendent within the agency they are employed.

They are commonly distinguished with a Polis Bantuan badge which might include their employer’s logo on their uniform's left sleeves from the otherwise standardised police uniform.

Like any other law enforcement authorities, auxiliary police are audited, inspected and reviewed by JPJKK’s Resource Support Coordination division on a regular basis to ensure strict compliance by the employing agencies.

Non-compliant agencies may risk censure and revocation of their services, including difficulties in renewed applications in the future.

Where are they usually stationed and what do they do?

Auxiliary police officers are usually employed by financial institutions, mass transit operators, corporate entities, government-linked agencies, shopping malls and public utilities services.

They serve as the common law enforcers in those places.

Their responsibilities include patrolling and sentry duty at the premises they are assigned to; crowd control; stop and search; protection and escort of their employer’s assets; crime prevention and making arrests when necessary.

Polis bantuan are usually unarmed, but they can carry firearms, which are registered under their employer's name if necessary.

However, this is subject to RMP's firearm licence procedures.

What’s the difference between polis bantuan and those under the RMP?

Auxiliary police have all the existing powers of a regular police under the RMP.

The exception is that they can exercise these powers only within the boundaries of their respective employing agencies.

As a legitimate law enforcement unit, auxiliary police officers are also supplied with a police authority card in either blue or yellow.

They have a limited responsibility in manning roadblocks and engage in motorised patrols when deployed together with RMP staff.

What the auxiliary police cannot do are investigate cases, act as riot control agents, and perform court duties and special operations under the General Operations Force.

Auxiliary police are still required to obey instructions from RMP officers in a joint operation.

How to become an auxiliary police officer?

Those keen to become an auxiliary officer must first meet certain age, physical, citizenship and academic criteria set by RMP. They must first be Malaysian and at least 18 years old from the time they are appointed.

Male candidates must weigh at least 50kg and be at least 162cm tall while women must weigh at least 45kg and be 152cm tall.

Next, applicants must undergo an interview before representatives of the employing agency and the RMP.

Candidates are evaluated based on their Sijil Pendidikan Malaysia (SPM) qualifications. They must have a minimum pass in six subjects, including Bahasa Malaysia and History for placements in either private or government-linked agencies.

Candidates are also required to pass a fitness test set out by RMP and undergo medical screening with selected medical staff appointed by the respective employment company/agency.

Those who passed the first stage will be assessed further for any black marks and security risks by the Criminal Investigation Department and Special Branch under the RMP as well as the National Registration Department.

Chosen candidates undergo nine weeks of basic training as police trainees.

The training, conducted by the RMP at several police academies nationwide, is based on syllabi prepared by Bukit Aman’s Training Division.

Recruits will also need to learn law enforcement and the business nature of their employers, among others.

All expenditure during the nine-week training is fully covered by their employers.

When is it an offence that may lead to an arrest by an auxiliary police officer?

Any act against the law found to be committed within an auxiliary police officer’s jurisdiction is considered a criminal offence.

Members of the public who disregard the orders of an auxiliary police officer on duty are also liable for criminal prosecution under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public officer from carrying out their duties.

If a crime is committed beyond the jurisdiction of an auxiliary police officer, a citizen arrest can still be made on the condition of notifying the relevant authorities immediately following an arrest.

Why do we need an auxiliary police force?

Auxiliary police serve to complement the roles played by RMP staff and fill the void in areas where conventional policing may seem ineffective.

The auxiliary police also act as a support unit to RMP.

For example, in certain circumstances, their jurisdiction can extend beyond the limits of their employers’ premises with written permission from a state police chief.

The establishment of auxiliary police also serves to reduce dependency on existing RMP manpower in terms of general policing duties by being autonomous in matters related to the security of their company's premises and facilities.

Over the last few years, we've been battling an array of organic malware attacks from various SARS-CoV-2 variants that have been exploiting a zero-day vulnerability (CVE-2019-05309) in host system immunity. Fortunately, prominent pharma security vendors, such as Pfizer, have made the required software patches available to thwart these attacks using the latest mRNA host cell programming technology.

Some host system operators have been reluctant to deploy the new patches, citing dubious and unsupportable claims of insufficient beta testing, an accelerated development cycle, and potential unknown system-wide effects.

Regardless, the first three versions of the Pfizer Booster have been remarkably effective in keeping hundreds of millions of potentially affected systems from undergoing emergency intervention or worse -- decommissioning.

We recently had the opportunity to put Pfizer's latest software patch, version 4, to the test, after interfacing with a pair of patched but infected systems at a local hibachi restaurant a week ago last Sunday.

Here's how we did.

The install process

As with all other Pfizer Booster products, a few months ago, we brought the host system to our local services provider – in this case, CVS – for a patching appointment selected on the provider's app. Scheduling the appointment was easy, and we made it the same day the CDC communicated system eligibility for the patch. After a brief waiting period in which we perused the aisles for personal hygiene and grooming products, candy, snacks, and other items, we were asked to bring the system to the bench technician for patching.

The install process, as usual, involved the technician inserting a hypodermic needle into the host system's bicep while engaging in small talk. The total installation time was about three seconds.

Initial system diagnostic and malware simulation

Post-installation, we were notified by the services provider that it was not unusual to experience a simulated response of malware-like symptoms in the days after initial patching. In our case, this was true, with about one day of elevated CPU temperature and an additional day of overall reduced response time and sluggishness, but this was easily addressed by scheduling sufficient system downtime, where we caught up on multiple seasons of Ozark.

System response to malware infection

On the day following exposure to the Omicron malware, the infected system host notified us that we should begin extended diagnostics. While we did not see any system-wide effects on Day 1 post-exposure, we did experience symptoms on Day 2, which included congestion, fluid discharge from the fan exhaust, and overall degraded system performance. This just shows how aggressive and fast-acting Omicron Malware is compared to earlier versions.

At this point, following a rapid diagnostic confirming malware infection, we notified our primary systems care provider, and they provided us with Paxlovid, Pfizer's recently released antiviral enhancement pack. This consists of a five-day supply of a triple pill cocktail taken twice a day. Other than an unpleasant bitter metallic taste that persisted in the system tray for several days, there were no other side effects.

In addition to unplanned downtime and washing the system tray with Listerine, it required further review of other Netflix material and isolation of other systems from the infected host.

On day 3 of the malware infection, the congestion and fluid discharge became more prominent, and more downtime was necessary. We also noted an elevated CPU temperature of about 2 degrees above normal, considered mild. This temporary increase in system temperature was gone by the following morning.

On day 4, congestion and discharge were minimal, and our main concern was running out of fresh Netflix material, so we began to scour the dregs of Amazon Prime and Hulu. Fortunately, a new season of The Boys was out, as was The Orville, so we allocated additional downtime to review this material.

By day 5, mostly regular operation resumed. A second rapid diagnostic yielded a "slightly positive" result in which the test indicator was barely visible, indicating a likelihood that the system could not transmit the malware itself.

On day 7, the system finished its course of Paxlovid and yielded a negative result on another rapid test. This allowed the system to return to its regularly scheduled operations.

Assessment of Booster 4.0 and Paxlovid Enhancement Pack

It should be noted that even though we had installed all four instances of Pfizer Booster, our system host still got infected with Omicron Malware. You can take every precaution possible -- including installation of the recommended system tray/fan exhaust covers, and KN95 particle filters during mobile operations -- and still get the infection.

However, the purpose of the Pfizer Booster and its accompanying Paxlovid enhancement pack is not strictly to prevent malware infection – it is to avoid emergency system intervention and potential decommissioning. To that end, this product excels.

While we felt the effects of the Omicron Malware during this one-week unscheduled downtime event, they were not very pronounced. Additionally, the downtime's short duration demonstrates that the mRNA-coded rapid immunity response worked remarkably well and could intercept and uninstall the malware much faster than if the boosters were not installed.

A week of unplanned downtime is unpleasant, but several weeks of downtime – possibly leading up to emergency system intervention and long-term performance degradation – or at the very worst, a decommission – is a far less desirable alternative for system operators everywhere.

With that in mind, we are quite pleased this product worked as advertised, and we'd highly recommend its installation to other system operators.

NEW DELHI: Indians will probably buy expensive cooking oil from overseas for at least another 15 years, as demand continues to far outpace domestic production.

Consumption is expected to climb in India by as much as 17% over the next four years, according to B.V. Mehta, executive director of the Solvent Extractors’ Association.

A rise that steep would further widen the manufacturing gap: India will likely produce about 10 million tonnes of edible oils in 2021-2022, compared with local consumption of as much as 23 million tonnes.

India, one of the world’s largest buyers of vegetable oils, has struggled to wean itself off imports. Farmers have typically focused on growing cotton and staples like rice, wheat and sugar, partly because the government sets price floors for these crops and buys some of them – such as food grains – in bulk for its welfare programs.

A shift in mindset is not likely overnight. High-yielding rapeseed and sunflower varieties and remunerative prices could boost the nation’s output.

But incentives for India’s farmers to grow oilseeds are still weak, according to Siraj Chaudhry, managing director and chief executive officer of National Commodities Management Services Ltd, a warehousing and trading company.

Change has to start locally, he said, with a close watch on the crop cycle. Rice farmers should be encouraged to grow sunflower during India’s rainy months, for instance, and wheat producers to cultivate rapeseed in the winter.

Higher production of rice bran oil and and expensive peanuts could also serve as supplements, he said.

Palm oil, in particular, has potential to close the production gap. Indians often prefer it over soft oils because it’s cheaper and can be blended easily with other fats. It also lasts longer than other choices, making it cost-efficient for bulk users such as restaurants and hotels.

Moving part of the supply chain locally may help. Commodities experts have lobbied the Indian government to import soybeans and crush them domestically, rather than simply purchase soybean oil.

That would potentially boost soy oil supplies at home and meet rising demand for feed from the poultry industry.

“It has to be a combination of factors, including providing new technology to boost productivity,” Chaudhry said.

Cooking oil is an integral part of the Indian diet. It plays a starring role in feasts served during the country’s massive festivals. It is used to fry jalebis, the sticky, road-side sweet, and for practically every other staple dish.
