Better to be born a Swiss or Malaysia Bumiputra?

A general question out there.

Do you think it is better to be born a Swiss middle-class citizen with rights to resettle in Zurich or would it be better to be born a Malaysian citizen with East Malaysia bumiputra status and have the support of a fairly well connected politically and wealthier family.

What are your thoughts?

I moved in to this apartment in December.

I do have a 12 month tenancy agreement.

When we signed she did say she was selling the unit but will be sold subject to tenancy.

She sold it just before CNY and told me we need to vacate as the new owner wants to live in it.

She offered to rehouse us at a unit that is opposite and identically furnished except it will need the kitchen cabinets modified to house the dishwasher and it is the unit we first rejected because the main windows faced west and wife does not like the particular unit.

She does have another unit with the east facing windows but it is empty but the other 2 units does not come with 2 car park spots.

She is offering to return deposits in full and we both walk away from the tenancy.

Should I be asking for more than what she is offering?

What to do with this lazy sibling situation?

I am on the lookout for options here for this imbecile.

He is 22, he is my mum's son from a 2nd marriage.

She is 59, a retired civil servant though she still works. No house as during the years she was a civil servant always had quarters and never had money either as she had plenty family that required loans from her.

His dad is 55, he used to work for a bank's IT department before being retrenched and since then been doing one business after another and always ends up failing. Now he sells used cars though not exactly successful at it.

He does have another brother that is same age as me and a sister that is 32 from his dad's previous marriage. The brother sells dodgy used cars with his dad while the sister is a hair dresser. The brother is unmarried and the sister is married with 2 children aged 4 and 1.

Problem with the imbecile?
1) Academically he is quite weak with poor Form 5 results. They did enrol him for a diploma, he dropped out, they enrolled him for A Levels he dropped out and finally they had him enrol for an Australian university foundation year and he dropped out as well.

2) Job? He was fired from a McDonald's, he said he could not get along with the supervisor, his sister told me it was because he kept showing up late for work. I told him to try applying for a job at IKEA for the holiday season since it was near their home, he worked 2 days then didn't bother showing up as he said the job was very difficult, too much walking and standing.

3) What he does with his time? Mostly spends it in his room where he plays games on his phone, PS and PC. Also does all kinds of chatting and other time wasting stuff online. How he gets money for this? His parents gives it to him.

4) The other thing he does is he was given a car. A Myvi which has all sorts of modifications on it as well as a loud annoying exhaust as well as a rebadge to be a Toyota. Claims it has had a full Toyota conversion and can go very fast, I will take his word for it as I am not an expert in this and it seems like a death trap to me . His dad bought the car for him to go to college. No idea where he managed to find the money to modify it, presumably must be from the parents as well.

5) No known relationships, says he has never had a girlfriend.

Definitely being supported by his parents and am told his other 2 siblings do contribute money to him, I don't contribute as I don't follow the same culture as them and I was never close to him.

I told him to get a cert to be an electrician or wireman. It did interest him but ultimately his parents said he shouldn't do that due to pride issues. They prefer him to have an office job.

I told him to get on with his studies, he says he cannot take the stress and would then need to drop out. His parents are of the mindset that it is fine that their baby remains at home and does nothing.

His sister did try to bring him to teach him to do hair styling work, she said it was too troublesome as he would show up 1 day then not show up for 3 days, then show up 1 day and then not show up for 2 weeks.

His brother in law did try to bring him to try to sell Perodua cars. It seemed instead of trying to sell cars he preferred playing his phone.

Is there anything I could do?

Growing up did you have any unusual habits?

Between the ages of 13 to 18 did you have any unusual habits or quirks?

Mine

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

1) Everyday I would eat 2 oranges with asamboi. Then I would use the skin to polish my desk 1 for my room and another at school.

2) I would eat chocolate cake in a bowl of milk.

3) I would strip naked, turn on my discman to Yngwie Malmstein or Metallica and do heavy weight lifting in the dark.

4) I ate dishes first on an empty plate, then would scoop rice and mix it with a bit of pepper, oyster sauce and raw eggyolk. Same goes for any pasta.

5) I added cheese to absolutely everything you could think off. Stir fried dishes?? I added cream cheese to it. Steamed mince pork with salted egg?? Hell yeah I would add several slices of Edam's cheese to it. Nasi lemak?? The sambal tasted better when it was stirred in with some mozzarella cheese. Roti Canai?? Hell yeah, the dhall curry will have some cheddar cheese to it.

6) I had an obsession with blowpipes and slingshots and had a collection of several homemade ones with plenty of darts to go around. Most favoured target?? My step sister's cat. Fortunately I did not know where to find a Pokok Ipoh. Else

7) Cardio? I would find a girl that was at least 5-10kg heavier than me. Hold her against the wall and well you probably know what happened.

8) I would never spend any 50sen or RM5 notes that I get my hands on, instead would put it in the piggybank.

9) The day I got my license I learned how to speed. Always saw speed limit signs as a guide and should do at least 50% faster. I stopped being that way when I moved to Switzerland.

10) My favoured breakfast?? Scrambled eggs made using pork lard or bacon grease.

I noticed quite a lot of people enjoy speaking and comparing their bonus and income levels. Some even go so far as to speak of their wealth, savings and investments.

Some do it in persons like recently I attended a gathering of ex-secondary school friends, seemed chief on their minds were how much everyone would be getting for year end bonus.

I always thought like your sex life this should be kept P&C.

Reason(s) so many are willing to spill the beans?

On this board you have persons willing to share how they bought real estate in the millions and some showing their banking details.

Kota Kinabalu to Tawau. Is it a difficult drive?

Servus!

I am looking for advice and information on this matter.

We need to be in Tawau by Christmas day as it is our wedding ceremonial day.

We have a flight to Kota Kinabalu that arrives on the 22nd.

We have ordered our car and it will be ready on the 23rd and we could pick it up either at Kota Kinabalu or Tawau.

I checked on Google, it seems there are 2 major routes to get there.

My questions are which route is the better one to take and the other is the drive and journey a difficult one to take?

Anything to be on the lookout for and are there any special issues I should be aware of?

My MIL-to-be is asking us to fly to Tawau as she does not think it is a good idea to bring a new car on such a journey. She said the roads are hilly and winding all the way, not good for her daughter and the car. I am not sure what she means by it is not good for the car as in Austria and Switzerland all cars have to start driving on hilly and winding roads, in fact, if you buy an Audi or BMW in Zurich, your very first drive is a long steep hill.

I would like to see that tall mountain.

I should add I have never been to Sabah.

Toyota Harrier. UMW or PI?

We are interested in buying a Toyota Harrier.

I am not familiar with buying cars or the ins and outs of things in this market.

She said we should get one from one of her uncles that owns a place that sells cars that were once used in Japan. If I remember correctly the term for these cars is parallel imports. Her uncle said he has one that is very nice with only 2k on the odometer and is a 2018 model and give it to us at a good price. I am doubtful a car that is 2018 could only have done 2k unless it has a tampered odometer or it is a defective car and spent all its life in a workshop.

She says we will save at least RM70k by buying it from her uncle versus buying one from UMW and that is before taking into account he is giving us a family plate number for free.

My main concerns besides what I stated is I remember many years ago my dad had a Honda Inspire that was purchased through one of these types of dealers and it used to make a buzzing noise when you exceed a certain speed and it had a speed limiter that meant many Wiras and Civics with less power could zoom past it. That is in addition to everything in it was in Japanese.
Another more serious concern is product recalls especially in the wake of the Takata airbag scandal and cars now being far more complex than before, would it be the case such cars in an event of a recall would be left hanging?

Implications on baby following the mum's name.

I was following 2 topics on here

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4857076/+200

and

https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=4860745&hl=

The first one was quite interesting and I must say it was even more entertaining to read than watching ORF1 especially with the trash that comes out these days.

I was quite interested in why an old man would be willing to pay good money for a grandchild to follow the mum's surname. I was jokingly telling my ex-wife about it that if only I knew about this earlier I should have charged her for using her surname on our 2 kids.

Also did not know a parent could change the race of the baby, it wasn't something I thought about to be frank as I never imagined it was something I would need to be concerned over.

My question is are there any implications locally for a child to follow the mum's surname?

In Austria and Switzerland, it was never a big deal, my ex-wife uses her mum's surname as she never grew up with a father figure. Plenty of men take on their wife's surname these days too usually using a hyphenation or as usually the case the man prefers the wife's name or he came from a background where he disliked the parents. Myself, I changed mine as well to follow my ex-wife's name when I became an Austrian citizen. Reason?? Pure practicality. The name doesn't get flagged as foreign therefore no extra checks. When you apply for jobs you don't get filtered out due to a foreign-sounding name (extremely common in many parts of EU) Easier to fill out forms. Etc.

Recently my fiancee asked me what I intended to do with my name which my reply was nothing as it isn't as straight forward to revert to the old name with many steps to go through.

She asked if I was okay with our baby following her name. I told her as long as the first name was a name we agreed upon I didn't care that much about the other names.

Am wondering if there is a reason I should care?

Pregnancy superstition and cravings.

I am posting to be better educated on this matter.

Is it the norm that pregnancy related superstitions are to be strictly observed?

Also to what extent should cravings be satisfied? Currently the advice given in most Western countries if she is craving then most likely it is a nutritional element she is missing but to ignore and not give in to the cravings not immediately at least. When my ex had our 2 kids it was generally the case she ignored any cravings unless it was before I prepared dinner in which case she would inform and we would make an effort to satisfy but not go all out for it.

Recently my soon to be mother in law advised my gf in the event she craved to eat something at night and no matter how late it is then she must go satisfy that craving.

Also told her make sure I don’t use a drill, saw, screw driver or any thing that digs or hacks into any walls or wood. Also told her make sure I did not go fishing or hunting.

Are these to be strictly observed?
