But despite EV drivers paying anywhere from 20% higher to double the premiums for traditional cars, China’s auto insurers have been nursing losses from covering new energy vehicles for at least three years. The industry lost 5.7 billion yuan ($802 million) from underwriting NEV policies in 2024, according to data compiled by the China Association of Actuaries, and is on track to lose money again this year. ...

= expect the same in Malaysia, ie as EV cars boom, EV car owners will have to pay higher annual insurance premiums.
.

The Model S is twice more likely to result in a fatal crash than the average car. ...

“But these safety features are being countered by distracted driving and higher rates of speed, leading to rising accident and death rates in recent years.”

Tesla’s advanced driver assistance systems, Autopilot and Full-Self Driving (both Level 2 systems requiring active driver supervision), are under investigation by the NHTSA for links to crashes and fatalities.

Misleading labels like “Full-Self Driving,” touchscreen-centric controls and driver complacency have raised growing concern over safety. While Teslas and most cars with ADAS include infrared driver-monitoring cameras, they’re far from foolproof.

AI and automation scientists have told InsideEVs that Tesla's approach with FSD, which also underpins its future Robotaxis, has severe drawbacks.

Tesla has the highest fatal accident rate of all car brands, followed by Kia, Buick, Dodge and Hyundai, iSeeCars said. “The biggest contributor to occupant safety is avoiding a crash and the biggest factor in crash avoidance is driver behavior," Brauer said. ....

Which is safer to you, EV or ICE-V car.?
.

8 NEV fires 🔥🔥🔥 daily in CCP China.

.
https://chejiahao.autohome.com.cn/info/13210312 - Google Translated - On average, 8 new energy vehicles catch fire every day, and the spontaneous combustion rate has increased by 32%. Does electric vehicles still have a future?
- 25 Sep 2023
.... According to data released by my country's Ministry of Emergency Management, in the first quarter of this year, the number of cars in China was 404 million, of which 8.915 million were new energy vehicles and 395 million were fuel vehicles. Although fuel vehicles still dominate, the growth rate of new energy vehicles far exceeds that of fuel vehicles. Some countries and regions have even announced a clear ban on the sale of fuel vehicles. It is an indisputable fact that my country is the world's largest new energy vehicle country.

What is frustrating is that Professor Yan Fengmin, Vice Chairman of the China Consumer Quality and Safety Promotion Association and Deputy Director of the Network Transaction Supervision Department of the State Administration for Market Regulation, pointed out at the Global Automotive New Ecological Development Conference: On average, eight new energy vehicles spontaneously combust due to fires every day. According to statistics from the emergency management department, the spontaneous combustion rate of new energy vehicles increased by 32% in the first quarter of 2023 alone . The automotive industry still has a long way to go to ensure product quality and safety.

On average, eight new energy vehicles catch fire every day, and the total number is close to 3,000 per year. As we all know, once an electric vehicle catches fire, it is difficult to escape, because the battery pack, which is the energy component, is a highly flammable material. The spontaneous combustion rate of new energy vehicles has increased instead of decreased, and many people question: Is there still a future for electric vehicles? ...

Summary: The rise of new energy vehicles is already a consensus of the entire automotive industry, and the electrification transformation has also made the speed of automotive innovation faster and faster. It is normal for new things to encounter doubts and misunderstandings during the development process, but no matter how you criticize new energy, you can't stop the development of electric vehicles!
.

The electric farm tractor market in China is forecasted to grow at a CAGR of 11% from 2023 to 2028.

Electric farm tractors have gained popularity in China due to several driving factors. The Chinese Government has been promoting the use of electric vehicles, including electric farm tractors, as part of its efforts to reduce pollution and dependence on imported oil. The Government also provides financial incentives for purchasing electric farm tractors and has set targets for the number of electric vehicles to be sold in the country. ....

.
Tesla customer service was able to remote start the car so I could drive it to the Tesla service center and get a replacement key.

So, I have little doubt Tesla can do this.

Now, before we call Tesla out on such a feature, I also have no doubt that GM’s OnStar, or Hyundai’s Blue Link, would be any different. GM has bragged in advertising that OnStar can unlock doors. GM, at the time, still used a mechanical key, but that has since changed, so I suspect OnStar could do it as well.

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/m...ent-remote-lock - 2023 March 3 - Ford seeks to remotely repossess cars after missed payments in US patent.
Automaker would remotely disable the vehicle or a component of the vehicle if delinquency notice isn’t acknowledged
.

This is a significant milestone following last year’s joint announcement of the Coverage Above and Beyond initiative, which aims to bring connectivity nearly everywhere in the U.S. for Un-carrier customers — even in many of the most remote locations previously unreachable by traditional cell signals from any provider … aka dead zones. Now that the satellites are in low-Earth orbit, field testing can soon begin on the new service that will leverage SpaceX’s constellation of satellites with Direct to Cell technology and T-Mobile’s industry-leading wireless network. ...

With well over half a million square miles of the U.S. and vast stretches of ocean unreachable by terrestrial network coverage, due to terrain limitations, land-use restrictions and more, this new service aims to give customers a crucial additional layer of connectivity when and where they need it most. With the new service, the goal is to eliminate worrying about mobile dead zones and lugging around expensive satellite phones — Un-carrier customers would be connected nearly everywhere they can see the sky, and in most cases, with the phone they already have.

Today marks the first of many Starlink satellite launches to come that will include Direct to Cell capabilities.
DNB 5G Wholesale Pricing.

.
https://soyacincau.com/2023/03/03/fahmi-bro...access-pricing/ - 2023/03/03 - fahmi-broadband-services-will-be-cheaper-with-updated-mandatory-standard-on-access-pricing
... At the moment, DNB’s published Reference Access Offer (RAO) for 5G access pricing starts from RM30,000 per Gbps per month that’s locked to a 10-year contract duration. DNB has said it is open to conduct a price review every 18 months either via an independent party or through the MSAP. ....
.
Afaik, DNB has only a total bandwidth capacity of 5.6Gbps per 5G cell tower for it's longer range and more usable 700Hz and 3.5GHz frequencies, to be sold to the few celcos, eg TM Unifi Mobile, Maxis, CelcomDigi, U Mobile and YES.

If a celco is paying DNB RM30,000 per month for 1Gbps for 5G access, it's cost is RM50 per 5G subscriber if it signs up 600 subscribers per 5G cell tower, ie RM30,000/600 = RM50. If out of the 600 subscribers, there are 400 active ones, eg during peak periods in urban areas, each active 5G subscriber can only get 2.5Mbps, ie 1,000Mbps/400 = 2.5Mbps.

So, consumers can expect more expensive 5G subscription plans and more traffic congestion, compared to the previous 4G subscription plans.

Short-range 5G smallcells on the 28GHz frequency are unreachable/unusable for most subscribers, ie the smallcells are concentrated in city centers and high-foot traffic areas like shopping malls and stadiums.
.

Fiber Internet Retailers like Maxis Fiber are very much at a disadvantage against TM Unifi Fiber because if the former oversell their subscriptions, subscribers will get very low Internet speeds during peak periods, even though they are paying for high speeds like 500Mbps.
.

Celcom, Digi & Maxis sign 20-years Fibre Agreement

.
https://www.thestar.com.my/business/busines...their-expertise - 2021/03/19 - Big-boys-to-combine-their-expertise
"KUALA LUMPUR: Celcom Axiata Bhd (Celcom) will be jointly developing fibre infrastructure in Malaysia with Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd and Maxis Bhd to improve widespread 4G connectivity, increase the country’s fibre infrastructure and prepare tower infrastructure for a 5G future.

This comes after Celcom, Digi and Maxis concluded a definitive agreement to jointly develop and share fibre infrastructure, allowing for faster and more efficient deployment of fibre backhaul to base stations and avoiding duplication of fibre infrastructure in the country.

The collaboration would also allow the industry to extend 4G mobile backhaul to support 5G new sites and fibre to the home expansion. ...

.
The fibre collaboration is effective for 20 years.

Other operators may also leverage the opportunity to tap into additional network capacity from the three telcos. ...

.
Since 2005, Celcom, Digi and Maxis have been engaged in fibre infrastructure sharing bandwidth capacity to fibre-cable sharing in 2010. Tower sharing has also been ongoing before 2000 among the telcos. ...."
.

https://www.lowyat.net/2021/235333/celcom-d...reement-20year/
"Back in February 2020, Celcom, Digi, and Maxis had announced their intention to jointly roll out fibre infrastructure throughout the country. Fast forward to a year later, the three telcos have finally confirmed that they are moving forward with the plan.

According to the joint announcement released yesterday, one of the main elements within the new agreement is that Celcom, Digi, and Maxis will be working together to design, build, operate, and maintain related fibre infrastructure all over Malaysia. For current infrastructure, the new agreement will apparently increase the amount of shared fibre as well as mutual infrastructure swapping arrangements.

Another element that makes this new agreement rather significant is the fact that it involves a duration of 20 years. Additionally, the three telcos also welcome other operators to come in and tap into the additional network capacity that will be generated through this new infrastructure sharing deal."

.
Does this mean the Big 3 pioneer celcos will be duplicating the TM HSBB Fibre-0ptic network, so that they won't have to pay TM for Fibre backhaul connections to the Internet for their 4G/5G cell towers.? If so, will such duplication of Fibre infrastructure be wasteful.?

Or it may just mean that the 3 celcos are and will be sharing the Fibre backhaul connection from TM HSBB for their 4G/5G cell towers = save costs.
.

Presently, TM HSBB Fibre Wholesale company charges the celcos about RM90 per 30Mbps of bandwidth per month for their 4G cell towers' backhaul connections to the Internet. But Low-band to Mid-band 5G cell towers can reach speeds of >200Mbps = the celcos may have to pay TM HSBB about RM180 per 60Mbps per month for 5G Fibre backhaul connections. Will 5G phone plans be 2X more expensive than today's 4G phone plans.? Eg will today's Digi 150 Infinite become Digi 300 Infinite when on 5G.?
.

They often get ad revenue from Google/Alphabet Inc, a major US online ad broker with annual online ad revenue of >US$100 billion, eg the Lowyat forum and news site get ad revenue from Google. Google Search displays relevant news from such websites when users search for them.

Looks like the French and Australian governments are working their government powers on behalf of their local news websites to "extort" money from Google/Alphabet Inc, a US company = copyright-trolling, similar to patent-trolls in USA via powerful US courts. In truth, the French news sites are double-dipping from Google Inc, ie getting ad revenue and copyright fees from Google. This is more like an economic power contest between US and France/Australia/etc and tech-envy.
....... With such French/Aussie government logic, every country's news sites and group of news site can sue Google/Alphabet Inc for copyright fees, eg websites for tech, medical, legal, wiki, auto, entertainment, etc news, on top of having received ad revenue from Google.

Can famous Youtubers who have already received US$ millions annually from Google Inc also sue Google Inc for additional copyright fees for their Youtube content.?

Imagine US news websites also jumping on this bandwagon to "extract" money/copyright fees from Google/Alphabet Inc, also a US company.

"Power corrupt$. Absolute power corrupt$ absolutely."
.

Google's latest (silly?) Project Taara

.
https://www.thestar.com.my/tech/tech-news/2...llions-of-lives - 2021/01/27/a-project-using-light-beams-to-deliver-high-speed-internet-could-change-millions-of-lives
While Alphabet is shutting down its Loon programme, which aimed to bring quality Internet connectivity to entire regions of Africa using autonomous balloons in the stratosphere, other teams are working on an equally innovative project using light beams. Project Taara aims to deliver high-speed Internet access, worthy of fibre, but without the cables.

Currently under development at X (the former Google X lab), a subsidiary of Alphabet, Project Taara uses light beams to deploy internet connectivity over large distances. Hopefully, it won’t suffer the same fate as Loon...

Launched several years ago, this ambitious programme is now at a stage where the first pilot experiments have been taking shape, whether in India or in Africa. The project hopes to be able to bring high-speed Internet to remote regions using equipment that’s easy to transport and install, even at sites located around forests or near large bodies of water.

This solution promises to be more cost-effective than fiber optics – which are often complex and very expensive to deploy – as well as easier to install, anywhere and everywhere, even in zones that are particularly difficult to access. The ultimate aim is to give rural areas a connection of the same standard as in urban centres. ...

This type of light-based communication can theoretically achieve very high connection speeds, of up to 20 Gbps. But even more important is the distance covered, with up to 20km between each terminal when the terrain allows. ....

.
This seems to be similar to existing Fixed Wireless Access 4G/5G Internet which already has a maximum range of about 15km. .......

https://carrier.huawei.com/en/hottechnology...w-wttx-cpe-tech - maxmizing-network-value/new-wttx-cpe-tech - 2017
A Peek into Huawei's New WTTx CPE Technology

Wireless to the x (WTTx), a wireless home broadband technology also known as fixed wireless access, has been rapidly developing in the mobile market over the past few years. In 2017, the number of new WTTx users increased by nearly 40% globally. That was nearly as many new WTTx users as the new fiber to the home (FTTH) users for that year (excluding China). This growth outpaced cable broadband. WTTx is expected to be the first commercial 5G use case in the industry. ...

Huawei's experience working in many countries, including Canada, Ireland, and Italy, shows that outdoor CPEs on commercial networks can cover a radius of over 15 km even if working on a frequency band of 3.5 GHz. ....

https://sea.pcmag.com/old-wireless-carriers...re-are-the-maps - Verizon Launches Unlimited 4G Home Internet for Rural Users: Here Are the Maps - 5 Oct 2020
... AT&T currently offers its rural "Fixed Wireless Internet" for $49.99/month with a 250GB monthly cap. It gives absolutely no clues as to where that's available. BroadbandNow has a map, but doesn't explain its sources for the data.

T-Mobile has a similar deal: $50/month home internet, but for even fewer people. According to Satellite Today, that offer is only available by invitation, or in three counties in Michigan. As part of its merger with Sprint, T-Mobile said it would cover millions of people with wireless home Internet—but not before 2024.

There are also several rather shady resellers that advertise unlimited LTE hotspots by evading the carriers' usage limits by various means. They're great as long as the carriers don't crack down on them.

Verizon Rural Home Internet Maps

Last week Verizon launched its own option across the US, and its prospect is more compelling because it's much more widely available. Verizon's rural home LTE is truly unlimited, with speeds averaging 25Mbps, the carrier said. It costs $40/month for people with Verizon Wireless service, and $60/month for people without. You need to buy a $240 router. ....

Note that Fixed Wireless (4G/5G) Internet requires the home-users' 4G/5G antenna to be fixed or immobile or non-portable and unidirectional, unlike a 4G/5G mobile phone or modem-router. Also an unfixed or multi-directional 4G/5G cell tower has a maximum range of only 5km for serving Internet data to mobile devices - normally it's only about 1km to 2km.
.

Too many cooks spoiled the Alphabet soup.?

Alphabet Inc or Google's strength is in digital ads via free digital services like Search, Map, Youtube, Chrome, Android, etc. It should stick to what it does best and not put its fingers in too many dish'es. Similarly for Malaysia's many failed Mega National Projects, eg the upcoming National Flying Car Project by the previous PH/Mahathir government.

https://www.csmonitor.com/Technology/Pionee...le-Loon-project - How loony is the Google Loon project? - Google Loon is a project to bring the Internet to forgotten corners of the globe using balloons. Will it fly? - 15 June 2013
.

Rampant fraud use of Mykad data for TM Unifi

.
https://www.thestar.com.my/opinion/letters/...many-such-cases - letters/2020/12/15/there-are-so-many-such-cases
TWO months ago, I was inundated with text messages supposedly from Telekom Malaysia ™ advising me to settle my Unifi bill, failing which my name would be placed on the blacklist maintained by credit reporting agency CTOS (Credit Tip-Off Service).

At first, I ignored the messages because I do not and have never had a Unifi account, but they kept coming. Worried, I went to a TM office in Bayan Baru, Penang. To my surprise, the staff showed me documents stating I had registered for the service and used it but never paid the bill. They asked me if I’d ever lost my identity card, and I told them I hadn’t.

I told them someone must have stolen my IC and also pointed out that the email address registered was not mine. I then asked that the case be struck off but they rejected my request.

Instead, they directed me to lodge a police report and appear in front of a commissioner for oaths to declare my innocence, and also to email all the documents involved in the processes to them.

I was very reluctant but thought it would be useless arguing with counter staff who were merely following procedure. And so I did as directed, thinking that it would be the end of the story. But the threatening messages continued. When I wrote back to TM to inquire, I was told the case was still under investigation – this was more than one month after I had completed the procedures!

The reason I am writing this letter is that when I appeared in front of the commissioner for oaths – now almost two months ago – he actually lamented that “there are so many such cases”.

I strongly believe there is a major system error somewhere, and that the higher-ups at TM should look into it and take immediate action before more complaints like mine come up.

TST

George Town

.
Why is this happening.? What is TM Unifi doing to prevent such frauds.? Mana itu Prihatin motto.?
.

MCMC wants public opinion on National Digital

https://www.thestar.com.my/tech/tech-news/2...entity#cxrecs_s -
MCMC wants public opinion on National Digital Identity - MCMC - Monday, 27 Jul 2020

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real-name_system
''''''' China
The Chinese government in 2011 promulgated its Regulations on the Development and Management of microblogging, which stated that microblogging sites should ensure users were registered under their real names.[5] Major microblogging sites like Sina Weibo, 163 and Sohu agreed to put real name systems into practice by 16 March 2012. Users who had not provided their real information would be barred from posting and transmitting messages thereafter.[citation needed] On 1 June 2017, the Cyber Security Law of China took effect, requiring that everyone who uses Chinese websites to provide their phone number. China's state-run media claimed this would provide a "safe and real" Internet environment. '''''''

Will the Malaysian government be using the NDI to try to copy CCP China's Real-Name ID System in "spying" on all her citizens for illegalities, especially by "anti-government" political commenters or posters.?
....... Shouldn't the Malaysian government follow USA Anonymous ID System in non-spying and more privacy for all her citizens.?

Doesn't quite secure online services already exist with today's technology, eg online banking, shopping, food delivery, e-hailing, e-government, e-Voting in USA, etc.?

Got real need for a National Digital ID System for Malaysia.? ... Personally, I don't think so.

Please participate in the online MCMC survey via the 1st link.
.
