Got Promoted..BUT

I have been working in a company for like 6-7years, as temp worker......
The reason I stayed is that I could see myself grow a lot. From a backend team that handles data entry to front end team where I directly deal with customers to become a programmer that develops macro/scripts/SQL/website etc to help dept to improve overall efficiency. Basically, I play 70% of the role that helping my dept to transform from a lot of manual paperwork into a more autonomous environment. Then get promoted to become one of the functional lead among the team.
since I took up the lead role, I carry the team hard i glued to my desk working my ass off to meet deadline and help to solve/giving advice to customers. Slowly, those internal customers dont even bother to look for them and i become the department go-to person. As time goes by, the workload of the team becomes unbalanced. I am cool with it and treat is an opportunity to learn as much as I can.

All these with <3% salary growth each year(avg performer rate) even with huge role change and finishing/supporting dept projects. When i asked boss why, he just giving excuses like company revenue no good la, for sure when good will reward...etc
basically, i am just working for free for those additional roles. I keep on being optimistic and told myself no harm learning and one day I would be rewarded fairly and my hard work and perseverance will be paid off.

Finally just before the end of the day, Got a call from HR that congratulate me with a cheerful tone that I earned myself a conversion to a permanent position with promotion. 2 in 1! I was like 'Ini kali lah!'
Everything sounds normal(This and that benefits remain, entitled to profit sharing, etc..) until the HR announced my new salary, I stopped for a sec and almost believe that call was a prank from my colleague. I was offered something lower than my current take-home pay! Basically a pay cut as 'token of appreciation'. what kind of world I am living in?! A promotion with pay cut?! What an insult to me.. I literally feel that my boss just force me to trade job security with my salary...

I broke down after I hung up the phone... it's a sad ending to me. i have been waiting for 7 years.. I tried hard to hold my manly eye sweat back at my desk,man.. that was tough

what should I do? Should i tell HR that the offer is hard to swallow and hope for adjustment to at least match current salary?

i have not signed the new contract and I got 2 months left before my temporary contract lapse..
If my writing looks incomprehensible, sorry. I could not compose my thought properly now... good night

To buy or not to buy this condo

I just viewed a 2 yrs old original, unfurnished new condo unit

nego the price with the owner until slightly under market price and decided to view the unit

everything is okay until the owner accidentally talked about new paint. That is when I started to smell something is fishy
So i started to look carefully at every corner and then discovered that a corner of the bedroom ceiling and wall is moldy. An obvious sign of water leaking from the unit above for sometime dy
I was very disappointed..

After some discussion with my wife, we both now 50-50 whether to take the risk
we have nego to slightly below market price and owner promised to rectify the issue before selling to us

on the other hand
We afraid that the unit is a 'lemon' unit( he did mentioned some leakage already fixed, just the current one popped out recently) and the owner wanna let go asap. More surprises are waiting for us once we move in. Forsee more headache and money, time wasted to fix this
and we do not trust the owner's word
Over warranty period according to the developer but owner insist still under warranty till Jan (such a coincidence huh?)

so I would like to seek advice on whether worth to take the risk due to below market price or just let it go?

Dry box humidity went up when off

Just got myself a new electrical dry cabinet to protect my small investment

I did notice once the humidity started to drop to let say 55%, it takes ages to drop another 1% with 75% power. out of curiosity, I went and switch off the power source, I noticed the humidity straight climb 1% within a few minutes.

I know that dry box required to be air tight in order for the small dehumidifier to be useful.

So does this mean that my dry box is faulty cos leaky? Or it is expected behavior once the dehumidifier is off?

Best Practice to reduce chance of rear collision?

Since a kopi-O lesen guy with his new myvi rammed into the back of my iriz,
I could not help but keep on thinking what more i could do to prevent/minimize this kind of unfortunate event in future

It was a normal Friday night, me and my wife were heading to our fave place for a good dinner after work
We arrived at a busy road with moderate traffic jam. Everyone is waiting for their turn to cross the junction which is controlled by a traffic light
I could recall we stopped and have a good chat, for something like 5-10 seconds.. nothing interesting happened until I felt a violent jolt and BANG! I was furious! Our car did not do any emergency brake at all. What the f is the person behind doing?! Who the hell could not see that we have already been stopped for 5-10 seconds?!

I went down and saw an arrogant young 23 year old driver, who did not even apologize or feel remorse. I asked him did not you see that I am already stopping for a period of time?! He started to bluff and blame that the road is slippy
i tested the road with my shoes and replied "hey! It did not even rain and you did not even brake" and I just said I want to claim his insurance, no discussion/nego. Took pic and vid and just went to balai.. I suspected his had his eyes all on his phone

Luckily both I and my wife are fine thanks to tough HPF steel. His new myvi radiator got damaged while my car only need to replace bumper and reverse sensors
The police report also went smoothly despite the driver lied to the sergeant that we did emergency brake in his report.
Investigation report says that the stupid driver has been summoned RM300, that was a relief. We are now waiting for insurance approval

Thinking back, I have
1) stepped on my brake whole the time even fully stopped the whole time.. to purposely signal to the driver coming from behind
2) Maintained safe distance from the front car to avoid a chance of emergency braking (therefore I did not cause some chain of reaction)
3) Ensure all brake light are working within OEM spec (Proton IRIZ)

anything i did not aware that could reduce shit like this happened in future?
until now i still feel uneasy when I was the last person stopped at a traffic..

TLDR
what else could i do to avoid ppl bang into my car from behind.. despite having 1,2,3 point above

take up part time CS/IT course?

Hi fellow sifu
i am now in a dilemma where i am deciding whether to take up part time CS/IT degree at the age of 30. A very big decision for me, might be a turning point in my life. For better or worse.

I started to develop interest in so called 'programming' when i got my first job(currently still having it) when my boss tasked me to do some boring manual task(most of them done in MS excel) in the back end which i hate back then. on the bright side, this has motivated me to seek for automation and this is where i started exposed me to simple programming and I am able to teach myself some VBA and wrote a few excel tools that helped me tremendously in my task. My boss saw my potential and get me involved in a few dept projects which included some web maintenance and new excel tools development to support dept automation. So now after working at a few small dept projects, i started to ask myself whether i should go and take another degree in cs/it too. Which i think might make myself more valuable in future as i could automate a biz process in a company with my CS/IT skill. I could also foresee myself doing some IT/programming freelance job as part time income in future to support the rising cost of living

I would like to hear your advice on this whether i should proceed or not. what is the prospect of IT/CS degree? or should i just forget about it and self-learning all the way. Thanks in advance
Shipping bulky item from US to Malaysia

Hi
I want to ship some bulky item such as 2 gallon of liquid(around 10kgs) products from US to MY. The problem is the seller does not want to ship internationally. What is the option that I could have? I do not mind 3-4 weeks of transit time, focus on getting the shipping cost as low as possible.

Please help

Insurance claimed, but shoddy paint job

Hi

another problem facing and dont know what to do as this is my first car.

I just get back my car from perodua SC yesterday and found out that shoddy workmanship from the SC. Runs everywhere at the painted bumper and just today, discovered that my car has different tone when i go pump petrol WTF . The painted bumper has darker tone compared to the metal body and my car is just one year old. At first i thought maybe my paint has aged but compared to my neighbour new myvi(same color) and my car inside door paint, the darker tone is obviously wrong! I suspect the color is painted thin(the new bumper is black color without paint).

I have just wrote to my insurance to ask them to hold the payment( hopefully could be done) and request for repaint as I think this shitty paint job has gone beyond salvage . Am i doing this right? Any advice regarding this so that I could handle this correctly and force them to solve it?

Myvi auto tranny question

Hi sifu
I wanna ask,
is it normal to expect auto myvi rpm to go down twice when it just shifted to the 4th gear. For example, on 4k rpm in 3rd gear, shifted to 4th, rpm dropped to 3k, then after 1 sec, dropped to 2.5k rpm while throttle input remain the same. is this due to the overdrive or sign of tranny prob?
Problematic new car

Hi

I got a problematic new car (9 month old myvi 1.3se)

1) jumpy RPM, is it caused by engine misfire? I encountering this when the engine is high load (aircon blower turn to full) while I stepped on the brake pedal. Worse if I am in reverse gear. It is getting annoying especially during parking. Already went to perodua service center a few times to make noise but they said is normal after they could not settle the problem.. WTF, i dont think it is normal at all as my old wira and my mom previous gen MYVI do not have this kind of issue at all.

2) Starting problem, heard some 'klakk' grinding sound after the engine has started and I've just released the ignition key. What caused this?

After some complaint to HQ, they asked me to drop the car at SC for a few days to check but I need the car for work.

Any advise on this?

Hi,
long time did not update myself with the mobo

last time during sandy bridge, i know that CPU can only be fully OC with the unlocked paired with higher end mobo like p67 and z68

now for the ivy bridge budget mobo that came with chipset such s b75, do i still need to have an unlocked cpu to fully OC?
