wise to change myvi 1.5 to preve 1.6 A/T

Have been seriously deciding to change my current myvi 1.5 SE to the preve 1.6A/T executive.

Reason for change, dont feel safe driving the myvi, unstable over 100km/h on the highway, lotsa cabin noise, tyre, wind, no refinement and feels like driving a very cheaply made but expensive product. Moreover the recent crash test rating is appaling and time driving I would think if this car crash head on with any other cars there is no chance of survival.

Anyways the difference on the monthly installment is about a hundred bucks difference.

Should I change to the preve for refinement, stability and most importantly, safety.

Upgrading to Proton Preve

Hi all,

I'm seriously thinking of selling my myvi and upgrade to the proton preve cvt auto version.

Currently driving the new myvi 1.5 auto had been using for a year now but start to dislike that fact that its too small, no boot space and doesn't feel safe driving at high speed.

Few questions I like to ask: and pls I hope for honest answers from the owners of preve

1) does the cvt version have good FC? Comparable or better then myvi? my Myvi is very good averaging 350-500km per full tank and around 12-13lkm/ litre. I would do 50% highway and 50% city

2) reliability of campro engine. I think this is where many people don't buy proton because of the engine? From my car servicemen many told me that proton new cars have a lot of problems, engine, suspension everything! However myvi not much problems. Reading at the preve forums here also scares me, seems like many preve owners are experiencing problems even just got the car for few days. Unknown Sound, engine noise, electronics problems and after sales service not good etc etc.

3) resale value. I think proton cars are never good at this. Probably preve after 5 years would be 35k?

Reasons to change I need more space and comfort, boot too. Preve built quality and interior really strike me and i like it alot, it doesnt feel cheap. Pls don't recommend saga cos I hate it. Vios is overpriced n doesnt justify the price and nvh is bad. Should I also consider forte? Fiesta sedan also though more expensive.

Hi plan to install 2 tweeters on the front WITHOUT removing the stock 4 speakers to improve sound quality. Any good brands can recommend? Currently driving myvi SE 1.5 comes with navi system. Would there be a lot of wire cuttings and pulling where would they install the tweeter? Would it affect the navi system or void warranty? If so any other ways to improve without altering the original stock speakers? Thanks a bunch!

Oh yeah most important budget anything below 500

Buying a new/used car

Hi to all sifus here,

Need help to choose which new/used car I should replace. Currently driving a late 04 hyundai matrix 1.6AT. Its a good car, high fc, high maintenance (spare parts etc) but big interior, heavy and comfortable. I average RM350/month on fuel (averaging 1800km/mth)(probably not alot compared to some of you here) planning to get a used/new car early next year, and I'm considering on the listed below cars.

My budget is around 50k, low FC, low maintenance, safety, reliability is my key concern

1) New proton saga FL 1.6AT RM46k
(did consider 1.3AT CVT option but may be underpower? engine noise loud? cost RM44k, top-up 2k go for 1.6 better?)

2) New 1.3 Myvi AT RM46k
(underpower also? engine noise? heard from friend drive unstable after 110km/hr; very floaty)

3) New 1.5 myvi AT RM54k
(overprice?, how's the drive impression better than 1.3?)

4) Used Toyota Vios 1.5G probably 06/07 model - RM50k or more
(2nd value is best but is maintenance expensive? or shud just buy a new car?)

5) Used Honda City 1.5 Vtec 06/07 model - RM50k or more
(still expensive, heard dont go for idsi gearbox inssue?

6) Used Suzuki Swift 1.5 06 -08 models - RM50k and more
(hard to get now, seems quite popular - reliability issue, maintenance cost?

7) New Hyundai i10 1.25 Kappa AT - RM54k
(no 2nd value, underpower? cute and good-looking, paultan review rated drives better than saga and myvi, the best in A-seg car) - overprice?

Sony A33 or Nikon D5100 or Canon 600D

Guys, I need help in choosing between the 3, I'll be using mostly for still jpegs (potrait (2nd) and landscape (1st) and night (3rd)), videos would be useful but not my primary focus. I'll probably only shoot some videos when travel or in occasions, files are rather large for keeping too.

What I need most since i'm beginners in dslr would be good unedited jpegs, as been comparing samples images, canon seems more pleasing in colours, seems like it has a permanent vivid mode in basic settings, colours are more punchier and vibrant compared to nikon, or i may be wrong. It just seems colours are better overall for the canons than the nikons. There's a review also states the lcd in canon is superior than the nikon, nikon lcd tends to overexpose the photos sometimes, misleading the actual pictures taken. This is rather true to the fact since i'm currently using the nikon P100.

Moreover, there has been several reviews commenting nikon better details captured at high iso, which probably I wont be shooting at that settings. What I like about the sony is the large EVF (1.1X) pretty impressive, and easy to use controls, and very good full-time autofocus video. Just dont know much about the image quality at base jpeg, seems not many uses the A33, as compared to the nikons and canons.

I've manage to find out the prices for the three models with their kit lens and all: I'm staying in JB btw, any good camera shops with the lowest price?

Canon 600D : RM2699 with 18-55mm (as per review from www.digitalreview.ca ; the canon kit lens is inferior compared to nikons 18-55mm, picture tends to overblown in strong lighting)

Nikon D5100: RM2450 with 18-55mm (pictures are more natural, but not as punchy and vibrant compared to canons even with vivid mode turn on)

Sony A33: RM2399 with 18-55mm and 55-200mm (2 lens and cheapest among the three with 7FPS)

So guys, which one of the 3 shud I go for? For still jpegs, colour vibrancy, good basic videos, reliability and durability.

Which dslr to buy? Please help!

Hi and evening to all avid photographers,

I've been about a year into photography, never like shooting with camera before until I went for a long trip with my nikon P100 last year. Before that I've always used my cellphone to take pictures when I'm travelling, I'm such a fool aint I!

My friend pursuaded me to get a bridge camera cos it looked cooler and had a long zoom - yeh 26x zoom is fantastically long! I never enjoy using a 'brick' as I found it heavy, inconvenient and a chore to carry it around, always thought cellphone camera can deliver what a camera can, I meant the image, and I dont care that much about image quality or ISO etc anyways.

As I learn to operate this small piece of system I grew to like the moment when you're capturing a scene. You start to take your first step in this world of photography, how beautiful the image turns out to be, how comfortable to hold your camera and taking control of the device and anticipating how the image would turn out to be, I greatly enjoy those moments. You start to spend so much time in capturing one scene and you wanted to capture a better image on the shutter. Even a boring scene can turn out to be a work of art. Now I understand why so many people have this wonderful hobby that lasted for eternity.

My point today is simple, one great year with my nikon P100 had past (still enjoy shooting with it - its a great little camera :-) ) I wanted more with the controls and dials and the features which this camera is lacking. I started to compare the sensor size, the ISO and the image quality. You want an excellent and clean image everytime, which I find this nikon P100 cant deliver to the standard I wanted now. I know this 2.3" sensor will never be able to deliver stellar image quality compared to a DX-sized format sensor, so to the gurus out there, I'll need your help and experience tonight, as I'd decided to venture into this world of photography, in choosing my first DSLR!!

Str to the point, my budget is of cos as low as possible, however as the ample research I've done, a good dslr these days arnt cheap and arnt that expensive either. So, as I may not like it, the range would probably be RM2000-RM3000? With kit lens of cos. I've done heaps of research online, reading the latest reviews and from different renowned sites like photography blog, dpreview, imaging-resources etc, and comparing users opinions and reviews and of cos pricing. I've tested out a few just to experience them, and I like it! I maybe still a 'baby' compare to you guys but I'm willing to learn the ways to be a better photography, at least in my own ways, I know it'll an on-going learning curve and it'll come with experience.

I've basically narrow down these dslr camera:

Sony A55/A55 : love the big EVF, high FPSand screen, but poor battery life + its an alpha; who uses alpha these days

Nikon D3100/Canon 1100D: Budget entry-level; however may outgrow within 1 year? Poor screen 231k dots and pathetically small viewfinder

Nikon D5100/Canon 600D? : Something which I'm seriously considering due to the fact it can capture better videos and has more option in the video settings, + cool filters (nikon) and snapshot videos (canon) - you never know if you'll need those in the future + have more features and better screen than the budget entries - so use it for a longer time?

Nikon D7000/Canon 60D or even D90: I know its beyond my budget but I seriously thinking too to better invest in a better camera that can last longer, than to reinvest due having outgrown the previous lower-end models.

So these are the models I can think of and probably within my budget. Due to the massive nikons/canons dslr I've seen elsewhere I'm of cos leaning towards these 2 brands, or am I wrong.

Its about 50% more quieter than the previous goodyear NCT5. But there is still some road noise coming into the car.

I was wondering if any of you guys have done any foaming on parts of your car to further reduce the noise level kindly let me know. The procedures and the costs.

Thanks!

Hi can anyone recommend me low noise tires for my hyundai matrix?

Currently using goodyear R15 for few years now and road noise is really loud on road. There are so many brands in the market.

My friends reco toyo, yokohama and michilin. They also say look out for those that has a softer rubber?? and taller sides? Dont know what they mean really. Asked the tire saleperson they seems to not know tires that well saying that all tires are good and non-road noise creating.. hm.

Are those good for low road noise?

Tuesday December 1, 2009 from The Stars

No tax under AFTA for vehicles brought in from our neighbours

IMPORT duty will be totally removed for imported vehicles from Asean countries under the Asean Free Trade Zone (AFTA), said International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed.[COLOR=red]

Import duty would also be reduced or removed through other Free Trade Agreements currently being negotiated or signed by the Government, he said.

Through the agreements, import duty for automotive products would also be reduced or removed in stages, he said in a written reply to Teresa Kok (DAP – Seputeh) who asked when the Government would reduce vehicle import duty and make vehicle selling prices here similar to those in Thailand and Indonesia.

Mustapa said the price of cars did not depend only on duty import rates, excise duty and road tax but also component prices, completely knocked down packs depending on whether imported or locally made, currency exchange, transportation cost and insurance.

As to plans for national carmaker Proton Bhd, the Government had on Oct 28 announced that under the reviewed National Automative Policy, it would establish a strategic co-operation between the firm and an Original Equipment Manufacturer for it to increase its competitiveness.

Is this REAL??

Best Culinary School

Hi guys,

Was wondering which would be the best culinary school in the region as I'm interested in taking up a diploma/professional culinary course that can prepare me to work as a chef or open up a restaurant in the future. Which school can offer the most comprehensive training in culinary arts & skills and bakering, and exposure to international culinary standards.

I have listed down some of the very well-known schools and courses offered but just not sure which school I should go for. If anyone is studying or have graduated from these courses or schools kindly provide some advice and feedback.

I'm currently taking some cert. courses and professional courses in Creative Culinaire Singapore but still feel I lack the exposure and fine detail of culinary skills. Thus I would like to just go for a full culinary course which can hopefully provide me with better grounds on how to 'fine-art' culinary experience.

Locally Malaysia :

1. Cilantro Culinary Academy - Offers Advanced Diploma in Culinary Arts that runs for 8-9 months + 6 months training locally
2. Taylor's School of Hospitality & Tourism - Offering a French Diploma in Culinary Arts awarded by Académie de Toulouse of France, and the school is ranked 3rd regionally by World Gourmet Summit Awards of Excellence 2009
3. KDU School of Hospitality & Tourism - Offers 2-year diploma course with twinning available with IMI Lucernze Switzerland

These are the 3 Malaysian Schools I can think of with good names abroad - not too sure about the cilantro.

Regionally:

1. Shatec Institutes (Singapore) - Very hard to get in: Offering Diploma in Culinary Skills or in Pastry & Baking on 1 yr course training + 1 yr internship in prestigious singapore hotels & resorts
2. At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy (Singapore) - Supposedly the best and most expensive culinary school in singapore (SGD39k for a 2years diploma) - offers Advanced Culinary Placement Diploma with Johnson & Wales University (USA)
3. Le Cordon Bleu Dusit Culinary School (Thailand) - Won 2nd place in regional Electrolux Culinary Institution of the Year by World Gourmet Summit Awards of Excellence 2009 - Offers excellence training ground and renowed chefs from France & others.

Greetings Folks,

I need help and suggestions regarding on buying a second-hand car. My budget would be around 35k. The maximum I can fock out is no more than 40k.

I intend to use this car quite often thus it must be fuel economical (not have to be extremely fuel economical), reliable in terms of easy to service & maintenance, safe, has a nice decent boot for storage as I often would go for scuba diving trip and bringing a few friends along, and lastly, stable on high speed on the highway (140kph etc.)

I'm currently looking at several models as I listed out below. Do add in or remove those which you think might not be suitable to my preference. I'd surveyed pricing based solely on motortrader.com

04-06 hyundai matrix (1.6, 1.8l) 33-37k

04-05 hyundai accent (1.6L??) dunno whats the capacity 27-35k??

04-05 chevrolet optra (1.6, 1.8L) 33-35k?

03-04 peugeot 207 (1.4L?) 32-35k?

cant think of any others at the moment.. I'm looking for cars no later than 2003. Not really into the new saga as my dad is ANTI-PROTON. Myvi's out of the qn cos no boot. So yeah... I'm not in a hurry to get a car so I'll be suryeying more options. Will probably in late september.
