Already owned a property in KL. Currently rent out.<br />Fpr SG currently renting a room sharing with other housemates. If buy a property in SG after few years (Singapore PR can only buy resale flat after 3 years), need to fork out substantial downpayment and upfront cash. Say 30% for a 300k 30-yo flat is 90k SGD.. Pengsan. <br /><br />Security:<br />Singapore is safer compare to KL. Especially for young kids. <br />Perhaps some condo have better security? And be extra cautious not to walk on the street at night? <br /><br />Education for kids:<br />Singapore wins handsdown. <br /><br />Politics:<br />Racial politics in KL vs &#39;peaceful&#39; in SG. <br /><br />Work:<br />More laid back and have more options in KL vs stressful life in SG. <br /><br />Retirement:<br />No sight of early retirement due to super high living costs in SG. May reach early retirement, or shorten the working years by a good 10 years prolly if go back to KL. The real attractive point for me. <br />This is especially true when one can realise the currency effects by going back. <br /><br />Financial:<br />High cost of living in SG. Lack of retirement savings. Mortgage loan till age 60+. No car, need take public transport. Flat value becomes zero after end of 60 years (assuming buying a 30yo flat under 99 year lease). <br />If go back to KL, possible to have a paid up house, a paid up car, a bit of savings for tertiary education funds for kids. Property asset can possibly help on retirement in golden years. <br /><br />Family:<br />Both our parents are not in SG/KL so no diff.<br /><br />PR:<br />Currently hokding singapore PR. If move back to KL, kids will most likely not be able to study or work in KL in the remaining of their lifetime...<br /><br />Anyone hs similar struggle before can advise? Any thoughts?
