American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold to stage Singapore concert in October

Hail to the king, as American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold will finally return to Singapore for the first time in 11 years. M Shadows, Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance, Johnny Christ and Brooks Wackerman will perform at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Oct 13 as part of the group's Asian tour.

Other stops on the tour include Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Bangkok and Jakarta.

According to Avenged Sevenfold's social media pages, members of its Deathbats Club and Deathbat Rewards programmes will have first access to tickets via their Discord channel. Interested fans can sign up via this website to access the presale session happening at 10am on Apr 6.

Thereafter, tickets will be available via Book My Show.

More details, including ticket prices and general sales, will be announced at a later date.

Formed in 1999, Avenged Sevenfold achieved mainstream success with its third studio album, City Of Evil, which was certified platinum and has since been named one of the greatest metal albums ever by prominent outlets such as Rolling Stone and Kerrang.

Over the years, Avenged Sevenfold has racked up a string of chart-topping albums, including 2010's Nightmare and 2013's Hail To The King.

The group released its latest album, Life Is But A Dream, in 2023.

57,300 M'sians renounced citizenship for

Singapore was the top immigration destination for the 61,116 Malaysians who renounced their citizenship over the last five-year period ending on Dec. 17, 2025.

This was revealed by Malaysia's National Registration Department director-general Badrul Hisham Alias, reported The New Straits Times (NST).

According to Badrul, around 10,000 Malaysians relinquish their citizenship every year.

An overwhelming 93.78 per cent of them left for Singapore, amounting to 57,314 individuals.

In contrast, the second most popular destination, Australia, accounted for only 2.15 per cent of the cases.

Under the Malaysian constitution, the Malaysian government does not recognise dual nationality.

Singapore does not recognise dual nationality beyond the age of 21.

Mostly young people & women
Badrul also revealed that most of the Malaysians who renounced their citizenship over the last five years were women, totalling 35,356, reported NST.

In terms of age, those aged between 31 and 40 constituted the largest group to renounce their citizenship, with 19,287 individuals doing so.

The second largest age group was those aged between 21 and 30, with 18,827 individuals leaving Malaysia for other countries.

Economic & family reasons
Badrul said that most of the Malaysians who renounced their citizenship over the last five years did so for family and economic reasons, reported Harian Metro.

For those who took up Singapore citizenship, Badrul contended that economic considerations played a key role in their decisions.

As many of them were already working in Singapore, Badrul claimed it was easier for them to obtain Singapore citizenship due to their "employment prospects and income levels".

SINGAPORE – For Twice, two times is the charm, as the South Korean girl group will again perform two concerts at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, on Oct 11 and 12.

These shows are part of their This Is For world tour. Their upcoming fourth studio album of the same name is set to be released on July 11.

A week later, their tour will kick off in Incheon, South Korea, with two performances on July 19 and 20. It will then head to a number of Japanese locations, such as Osaka, Aichi, Fukuoka and Tokyo. After that, it will hit Macau and the Philippine municipality of Bulacan before landing in Singapore.

Twice last took the stage here in 2023 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Sept 2 and 3. Those concerts were part of their Ready To Be tour and featured hits such as Feel Special (2019) and The Feels (2021). In 2019, they performed at the same venue for one night.

Newer releases will be highlighted in their upcoming tour, such as music from their EPs Strategy (2024) and With You-th (2024). Ticketing details have not been released yet.

The nine-member group, which debuted in 2015, consist of Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu.

They recently opened for Coldplay during the British rock band’s six concerts in Seoul in April. During those shows, the girl group debuted their remix of the Coldplay song We Pray (2024), with them singing in Korean along with Coldplay’s vocalist Chris Martin performing in English.

SINGAPORE – If you failed to nab a ticket to one of Jacky Cheung’s 11 sold-out gigs in Singapore in 2023, here is your second chance.

The Hong Kong Heavenly King will stage three encore concerts at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Nov 21, 22 and 23, as part of the same 60+ Concert Tour.

Ticket prices – from $168 to $388 – are identical to those of his 2023 shows here.

Priority sales for KrisFlyer members begin on July 2 from 10am to 11.59pm, and for OCBC cardmembers on July 3 from 10am to 11.59pm. General sales begin on July 4 at 10am.

Queen of J-pop Ayumi Hamasaki finally performed her first solo concert in Singapore on July 5 – and what an entrance she made.

As the red curtains rose, more than a dozen dancers in striking gold costumes were seen on the four-sided centre square stage. The 46-year-old superstar then emerged, looking radiant in a Cleopatra-inspired Egyptian outfit and holding a sceptre.

The near-10,000-strong capacity crowd at the Singapore Indoor Stadium went wild as she opened the show with three rock-influenced numbers – Inspire (2004), Duty (2000) and Microphone (2010).

Hamasaki, or Ayu as she is known to her fans, debuted in 1998. Her rise to fame – from a flashy street-wise “ah lian” to a polished pop princess to now the empress of pop – captivated a massive audience in Japan and beyond.

At the concert, Hamasaki’s widespread appeal was evident. Many concertgoers were dressed in leopard-print outfits – her signature – or T-shirts bearing her iconic “A” logo. There were also fans who flew in from China.

The singer-songwriter had kicked off her Asia tour – her first in 16 years – in Shanghai in November 2024. She later travelled to other Chinese cities – Chengdu, Ningbo and Guangzhou – and ended the tour in Japan’s capital Tokyo in December 2024.

Her sequel tour, or Ep.II as she titled it, started in Tokyo on April 8. Her upcoming stops include Taipei, as well as Japanese cities Hiroshima, Osaka, Sendai and Fukuoka.

The concert’s first half resembled a musical, with Hamasaki and her dancers embodying characters in various storylines woven together by her songs.

Through expressive choreography and dynamic visual projections, one could sense a trajectory of life’s highs and lows. There were moments of despair, betrayal, misunderstanding and distance, as well as courage, hope and love.

For instance, during Endless Sorrow (2001), Hamasaki’s wrist was bound to a pillar surrounded by despondent dancers. The scene poignantly conveyed the anguish of being caught in grief and inner turmoil.

Then, as she performed her iconic 2004 hit Moments, a song about lost love and the pain of separation, she ultimately “died” in the arms of her beloved.

But the mood lifted when she reappeared on stage in a bride-inspired ensemble. Her heartfelt delivery of lines like “We are on this journey to be happy”, from the 2002 ballad Voyage, had the audience singing along and waving their light sticks.

Now a mother of two and having faced challenges like the loss of hearing in one ear, Hamasaki’s songs felt more powerful and authentic than ever.

However, the transitions between sets felt awkward and confusing. The audience experience would also have been greatly improved if there were lyrics projected on-screen in romaji and with English translations.

As the 2½-hour show entered its second half, it transitioned to “concert mode”. Dressed in a red hip-hop-inspired outfit, Hamasaki performed alternative dance-rock hits Evolution (2001) and Startin’ (2006).

It was not until the encore that she addressed the concertgoers in fluent English, confessing her nervousness about their reaction to her debut solo show in Singapore. She had performed at the MTV Asia Music Awards here in 2002, when she was named Most Influential Japanese Singer in Asia.

She described their warm response to her solo gig as “beyond her imagination” before exclaiming: “I’m the happiest person in the world now.”

The crowd was captivated by her unique blend of commanding vocals and an endearingly anime-like speaking voice.

After an emotional rendition of My All (2008), an ode to unwavering love and gratitude, she exited the stage in tears.

Many in the audience were inspired by her energy and resilience. For 47-year-old hairstylist Satoko Enomoto, who has lived in Singapore for six years, the concert exceeded her expectations. This was her first Hamasaki show.

“I was amazed by how Ayu’s music feels timeless yet fresh. It reflects her ability to honour the past while constantly innovating, always remaining stylish, strong and inspiring,” she says.

“I believe that’s what makes her truly special and allows her to connect with fans across different generations.”

Tickets for Lady Gaga's upcoming May 2025 concerts in Singapore went on sale at 10am on Mar. 18, as part of the Mastercard presale, with more than 1.2 million people in the queue.

And it appears that scalpers have also started hustling.

Tickets already on sale, some supposedly as high as S$30,000
A cursory search of Carousell and Xiaohongshu revealed some scalpers reselling tickets from the high hundreds to at least S$1,200.

One Mothership reader also shared a screenshot in which VIP tickets were supposedly being sold for S$30,000.

But the listing appears to have been removed.

VIP tickets come with perks, including priority merchandise shopping, a limited edition gift pack, as well as exclusive access to a VIP pre-show lounge.

Other concert-related items on sale included queue numbers, "bypass links" and at least one person offering their service to help secure tickets.

Limited tickets available as of 12:05pm
At 12:05pm, Ticketmaster released a message stating that it now had limited tickets for May 18, 21 and 24 shows, while more tickets are available for May 19, for the current presale.

In addition, the "On Stage Experience" package for this presale is no longer available for May 18.

The next presale is due to begin at 10am on Mar. 19 on the Klook app.

Overseas Gaga fans Booked Flights & Hotels In SG

On Monday (Mar 10), Lady Gaga announced that she would be performing four nights at the Singapore National Stadium in May.

Her Mayhem concerts on May 18, 19, 21, and 24 will mark her first concerts in Singapore since 2012's Born This Way Ball Tour.

Many Little Monsters (aka what Gaga's fans are called) are already gearing up for a ticketing war. If Taylor Swift’s 2024 Eras Tour in Singapore is of any indication, a blood, sweat and tears-filled battle for tickets is expected.

Some fans have also started planning their concert logistics.

Little Monsters have taken to social media to discuss their game plan come ticketing day (Mar 18).

Overseas fans are also hoping to link up with companions for the show, with a fair number looking to share the costs of travel packages.

Xiaohongshu group ‘Lady Gaga Singapore’ has already amassed hundreds of members from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Malaysia.

According to reports, some of these fans have already paid for their air tickets and accommodations even before they get tickets.

And we thought us Singaporeans were kiasu.

There are several options to snag tickets.

The presale starts on March 18, and Mastercard, Klook, Krisflyer, and Live Nation members will get the chance to buy their tickets on respective designated presale periods. General ticket sales will take place on March 21. You can refer to the ticketmaster site for more presale details.

Travel site Klook will launch a package which gives fans the option to buy two tickets and a four-star hotel stay for S$589 and up. There's also a five-star hotel stay package that starts from S$728.

Krisflyer members can utilise their miles to pay for their tickets. It will cost them 26,000 miles to 42,000 miles, depending on the seats.

According to Minister for Culture, Community and Youth of Singapore Edwin Tong, the Singapore government did not provide any grants to get Lady Gaga to perform here. Her upcoming concerts are an arrangement between the star and the organisers, Live Nation and Kallang Alive Sport Management.
