How common is this in IT field?

Hi all,

This is going to be a long post/rant.

I'm currently working in an IT field. My company have been using the same system for the past decade (.Net stack). I have been in this company for nearly 2 years and I was originally placed under the supervision of this system's original author, who was also my manager/our HOD. Unfortunately, my company underwent some restructuring process and I'm placed under different manager cum team lead. I look up his profile on Linkedin - someone with >10 YOE in IT but no experience in .Net stack.

He has been in our company for nearly a year now but he still doesn't seem to understand the system. Every time he receives a live production issues or even a reply from client, he keep saying to us he doesn't know, what is this, bla bla bla. He forbids us to approach the client/user directly and then ask us to troubleshoot and he will reply to the client/user using our answer (just slightly tweaked).
He doesn't really know how the setup works in our system, and when I explain to him, he say he is lost. Doesn't seem interested to learn about it either.

He hired another BA from his previous company and good Lord, after half a year in this company, that BA is still struggling to understand the business flow and the logic. As the result, I as the developer who's not supposed to approach user directly, have to ask user/client once again what they actually want (so many times and effort wasted - double work). Manager himself doesn't know about the system, how to guide the BA he hired?

I don't want to show my manager in a bad light. Other than helping us to fight for more bonus and much higher pay, I'm grateful but I don't see how am I going to progress under this management style. When I'm/my best colleague not sure of a particular logic/business flow, I have no one to turn to, unless I'm asking back my old manager. Logic is highly related to business flow, which he doesn't have a background experience in (insurance industry background). He will organize meeting with user/client, but even user isn't really sure (turnover rate high). sometimes it's awkward in the meeting when no one really clear on the flow.

Is this very common among IT manager cum team lead in Malaysia? Possible to avoid this type of 'team lead' in future? How?

I saw that there is customization plan for whatsapp, youtube etc. So may I ask if there's anyone using Yoodo for whatsapp call? Is the call quality good? Asking for opinion only. Later if I want to add in more plan, I can do so, right?

Tenant-to-be requested to pay rent by end of month

Asking on behalf of my friend. She owns a condo and now want to rent a single room to a person. But haven't sign anything, haven't got deposit from that person. Yet that person requested if she can pay the rent by end of month instead of early of month. My friend seems desperate to rent it out as she's currently jobless and planning to do own business. So she has to juggle both sides. What is your advice or experience on this?

Edit: The person just gave her deposit 1 month. Agreement not yet sign. I should advise her to add in some clause to protect herself?

Cheaper way to go Taman Kilauan Tun Sambathan?

Is there any cheaper way to go to Taman Kilauan Tun Sambathan Bestari Jaya from KTM Rawang? I have checked Grab and I need to pay at least RM 40 per trip from KTM Rawang to Bestari Jaya. No driving as we are not familiar with the area in Kuala Selangor/Selangor in general yet. Is there any public bus available?

How to deal with this money compensation matter?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I am having some financial issues with my ex-hostel management board.

The situation is like this, I have worked for a company for a few years and have been living full-time at their hostel during that period. Now, I have resigned from that company and moved out from the hostel. The issue now is that, the management board might refuse to return my deposit and my advance utility payment due to item damage in the hostel.

The problem is, the item has been damaged even before I moved in. I have not been given any asset list when I first moved in and I am careless not to check the all the items condition in the hostel before I officially moved in. I was only given one few months after I move in. I have updated the list accordingly and stated the item has been damaged to the management.

However, the asset list remains the same when the management give it me the next year and they didn't update the item condition according to the list I passed to them.

There have been many people moving in and out during the period I stayed there. The question now is how can I tackle this case? The amount of deposit and advance payment is not significantly large but I just feel that I should get back my hard-earned money and I should not be responsible for the item that has been damaged even before I moved in.

So for the interview part, usually what will the hiring manager/interviewer expect from me? Besides showing portfolios, highlighting my skills and experience...what else should I prepare for?

Will the interview process similar to a fresh graduate interview process? For example, doing aptitude test?

Developing hybrid vs. native mobile app

Which is better: Learning how to develop hybrid app in Xamarin or native app in (iOS/android)? According to your work experience/opinion, the job market/user demand will favor which one more?

Also, I'm a windows user, can't afford to get a MacBook yet. Can I install a macOS on a virtual PC, learn how to code iOS apps there smoothly?

This morning I went to my nearest police station to get PKP letter. So just a friendly reminder, please apply the PKP letter from 8-4pm at your nearest police station - the sooner you go, the better. PKP letter is needed, no matter what mode of your transportation, whether by driving or by aeroplane. As long as you are moving from district to another district within Sarawak, you will need it. Then you will need solid reason for it to pass.

I went back because I've resigned since the first day of this month (no income) and I don't have any place to live (all my family members is in other district), it's not because I want to disobey MCO.

1 Year Validity or more - Can anyone recommend me?

Currently on Tunetalk, usually can extend validity by RM 28. But now Tunetalk cancelled the validity plan without any notice. Went to customer service and they said validity plan has been deactivated until further notice.

Do other telcos have any validity plan? Please recommend. Thanks.

From VB.Net to SAP Career Field

I am a CS graduate and possess a 4++ years of experience in VB.Net but 0 years in SAP field. I'm asking because I'm unfamiliar with what SAP job deals with on daily basis and I've received a job offer in SAP CRM, BI etc. Will it be difficult for someone like me to handle SAP job? What I know about SAP is that they have many different types of modules and some of the modules will need someone not from CS, For example, SAP FICO, which requires accounting knowledge and most likely will be much more suitable for a finance graduate.

Is it a good idea for me to go into this field, if indeed I will be given SAP CRM, BI, HCM module to work with?

Will SAP field provide a good career growth?

Program developed runs slow in Window 10

I have installed my program in a server folder. For my user to access the program, I just create a shortcut for it on their desktop.

When I clicked on the program shortcut, the program can load as usual but the login form loads slowly. I've noticed this issue in Windows 10 computers. The program loads and runs much faster in Windows XP/Windows 7.

First, I thought this is due to the server network problem. I ping the network IP address and the speed is normal (<1ms). Then I tried installing the program in their local disk too. Still slow. I don't know what else is causing this issue.

Have anybody else encounter this? What is your suggestion?

I am currently working as a .Net programmer, specializing in developing desktop application for four years. I've never touched or do any freelance/pet project relating to web development (because current company doesn't need one and I'm busy with current desktop application project) and I wish to pursue a job that specializes in web development.

Although I've been self-learning a bit by following some tutorial, I think it's not enough.

How should I approach the job market in web development given my situation? I want to get myself involved in companies specializing in web development (because I want to learn how the web projects are managed and done in a more structured way) but I don't have that confidence that they'll hire me based on my limited experience.

Any advice on this one? Thanks.

Digi Broadband requires VoIP pass to make calls

First few calls in whatsapp after I subscribed to Digi Broadband 65 is fine. No constant "connecting" message etc.

Until recently, I can't make calls at all as it kept displaying "connecting" message, then even when can connect, we can't really hear each other voice.

So for those who are looking for Digi broadband plan, please do look it up on the Internet. The staff at the Digi center won't tell you and even like me, if you ask, they will just say sure, you can use the data to make calls through whatsapp etc. No mentioning of VoIP pass at all. Some more, in my plan, they state free 20GB data. Please do note that the 20GB data is only free for 24 months.

About the VoIP pass, indeed many people have fallen for it. Since 2016 even.
Although Digi marketed VoIP pass as unlimited data, but it is actually capped at 3GB data. So beware. After 3GB used finished, then you'll need to buy another one.

So my purpose of this post is to supply you the information that might be withheld by the Digi center staffs. And as I know this might attract trolls, I will lock this topic.

I know what are you thinking right now after reading this post, you will say:

1. "It's your fault". Yes, I admit this. I didn't know about it and I didn't dig deeper before subscribing to their broadband plan. I subscribed to Maxis previously . Now I started to regret this decision. But I can't get out because I have purchased the Digi Wifi device as well.

2. "Why didn't you ask more". I did, they are the ones who is not honest with me.

Be aware so that you don't pay more than what you originally intended to.

Another foc but potentially dangerous solution is to use V P N. Just tried it, it works, although not perfect.

ESTATE PLANNING: Gift to parents

So let's say in my Will I have give a certain gift for my parents. However, my parents don't draft their own Will.

Q1:
So when they decease in future without a Will,
and if inside my Will, I have specifically stated that all my gifts for them will be left for sibling after they are gone, will the gifts automatically left to the sibling, based on what I stated in my own Will?
Or the court will still have to follow the distribution act?

**I do understand that if my parents did draft a Will, then it will certainly overwrite mine for the part of transferring the gift from parents (if they're deceased) to sibling.

Q2:
Finally, how to persuade my parents to make a Will?They're still healthy, I don't mean to curse them and I certainly don't have any ill-intention. I just want to make sure the processing of their assets after their death is much easier (no conflict between siblings etc.). Because I have heard from some sources stating that without a Will, the process will take much longer time.

Finally finished drafting my first Will. Now I need some help from you guys to review it.
I'm not disclosing any personal information. However, my content is exactly like that.

My background: single, both parents alive (both healthy), 2 siblings, no car, no house, no debt.

My questions:

1. Do I need to state full address? As you see in declaration part, "...a legal adult residing in the State of SMNJMSIA, MALAYSIA". Actually the SMNJMSIA is any state name. So I wonder if I shouldn't use state name only,
But must use full address as in IC?

2. Again do I need to use full location address where I sign the will With my witnesses? "...Under penalty of perjury we declare these statements to be true and correct on this 1st day of DECEMBER in the
year 2019 in the state of SMNJMSIA, MALAYSIA". Like previous question, do I need to substitute SMNJMSIA with for example "Lot 123, Jln ABC.., Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia" ?

3. If we are about to donate to charity, should we include the charity business registration number and full address?
Or just like in my Will, write as this "...free of all costs to any of CHARITY BODY A IN KUALA LUMPUR,
MALAYSIA" is enough?

4. "IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I, the undersigned testator, declare that I sign and execute this instrument, in the
presence of the undersigned witnesses on this..". For this part, I don't know what to put as the title. As you can see, other contents do have their own "title" such as "declaration, family, specific bequest etc.". Do this part need to have a title? Or it's just as fine as now (no need to change anything)?

Feel free to provide any feedback (for e.g. if you can understand what I'm saying in that Will, or which part that you feel people might confuse with what I'm saying, content placed wrongly, content which doesn't have to be included or what else is missing etc.).

Edit 2: Thanks to suggestion from MUM. I feel that the previous template is too complicated in terms of the wording. So I uploaded the updated version here [copy 4]. Amend according to your needs.

Edit 3: I'm going to remove 5, 7.2.5., 8, 9, 10.1 as I think I need professional advise on this one (esp. on Trust, and trust provisions are quite tricky for me). Will draft with professionals in future when I acquire more assets. No. 5 will exist in separate piece of paper.

Edit 4: Latest without any confusing clauses by feedback. Extremely simple and straight forward. Previous templates (will copy 3, will copy 4) include trust, because I'd hope my parents will be taken care of using the assets I've allocated to them (in case they can't manage it themselves). Still not the perfect template. Please consult any professional advice if you want to include many specific details.

ESTATE PLANNING: Should I include person list in?

For easier process of distributing the asset, we are recommended to attach the list of our Estate so that our beneficiaries can locate it easier.

However, I've got some question(s):
1. Do the asset list need to have the signature of the Will maker and the two witnesses?

2. So I thought if we are recommended to attach the estate list, then I might as well attach the "Person" list. In my Will, I repeatedly mentioned several people.
These people are all my immediate family members.

Do I have to put it in a "Person" list to let the court know about their relation with me?
Do this list need to have the signature of the Will maker and the two witnesses as well?

What I have in the "Person List" now is:

*ABC (I.C. No.:000000000000, Contact No.:123456789). Relationship to Will-maker: Biological brother.

Or the "Person" list is not needed at all actually?

Note: I tried the existing Will thread, but figured I want to open a separate thread for organization purpose and clearer answers. This question might not make sense to those who are experience in this matter, hope you don't mind helping me out. Thanks.

'Invisible' at Office, Suddenly...

'Visible' outside the office.

At least this is what I am in the eyes of some of my colleagues.

I find it very weird that some of my colleagues actually acknowledge my presence when they meet me in a public space, especially when they're with their family. Saying 'hi' and all. When we're in the office, they don't even look in my direction when walking in the hallway, even in the office (same space as me). I mean like no look, no smile, no anything at all. Pretend that I don't exist. Like an air.

For me, it's unnecessary and weird. If you aren't friendly to me at all in real life and also secretly don't like me then don't do that la. Just make yourself look foolish and hypocrite. Given a choice, I feel like I don't want to 'layan' them when they do that. But I can't really do that, because some times I still need their little help.

Just want to know whether this experience is only unique to me?
Did it happen to you?
Or you are one of them that also do this kind of behaviour (why though??) ?

P.S: Pretty sure not my problem, I take care of my appearance etc.

TIL that in 2038, we will have another Y2K-style software issue with dates, as 32 bit software can't represent time past Tuesday, 19 January 2038. Times beyond that will be stored internally as a negative number, which these systems will interpret as Friday, 13 December 1901
