How to have wired internet to all house rooms?

Hi, doing subsale landed terrace house renovation now, and want to create new fibre Internet for the house. Current place have the option of TIME, however it's an old landed house (20 years+), and seem to have old existing TM phone lines and internet wires from previous house owner (who last stayed around year 2011 era so I am assuming already have some kind of fibre wires. However, the wires seems to travel and enter the house from outside TM green box from backyard lane, to upstairs room (and it comes down from upstairs room ceiling).

Need a expert and knowledgeable contractor to come and check. And perhaps I will stick with TM Unifi first (since my old parents house has been using TM Unifi all these while and not too too bad la), then maybe next time only consider port out to TIME. Plus I need TM people to check the old existing wires/phone lines/ports and what are they.

Is it sufficient to just walk in to any TMPoint nearest to me and tell them I want to create new account? Are their random contractors good enough? My maincon contractor not so expert in all these kind of things (only do plumbing and tiles all those), hence need an internet and fibre expert to see what will be the best setup for me.

My requirements are simple though, just need Ethernet point wired connection in downstairs living room, one downstairs guest room, and one upstairs room. And WiFi for the rest. Just thinking how the wiring gonna be (plus prefer concealed but if exposed still ok as long as the fibre wire not too visible). What type of wires? Where best to put the router with antenna signal? How the fibre will enter from TM green box from backyard to downstairs living room, or upstairs?

Subsale house existing old pipes stagnant water?

Hi, if an old house previous owner did not stay for few years already, the pipes did not run for some time. Not sure what type of pipes also, possibly copper. Can this cause things like rust and bacteria such as Legionella, etc. ?

Have a solar water heater on the roof, not sure how long already there, surely have hot and cold water pipings, concern whether the pipes still can use or better to change. Trying to avoid having to redo piping for whole house as that will be costly.

Also thinking whether to stick with solar (but potential costly maintenance in future), storage type (but not very comfortable with potential risk of explosion if not maintained well plus right above my head in the bathroom ceiling), or instant water heater (but can't enjoy powerful rainshower hotel feel).

Latest modern sizes for tiles?

Hi, nowadays for latest modern looks or for those used by interior designers nowadays for renovating houses, is 2x2 tiles still common, for downstairs living hall and upstairs rooms?

How about for bathrooms, if let's say want to have nice looking walls and floors macam hotel feel (I'm thinking grey-color theme), is 2x4 tiles appropriate? Hard to install and will it be more costly?

What are the best shops to get tiles nowadays? I see Super Ceramic has a lot of choices but a lot are China-made tiles. Are these good enough or are there other shops such as Niro/Creative Lab or Feruni or Guocera which has better tiles/designs? Worth the extra price?

High ceiling curtains behind cornice?

Hi we like high curtain style for living room windows, but I see most of sample pictures usually must do plaster ceiling, then the curtain railing is in the gap behind the plaster ceiling, if I'm describing it correctly, something like this: https://atap.co/malaysia/en/projects/pano-classic

But as my living room now (landed double storey typical 22x75 layout), the ceiling is already less than 10feet, put plaster ceiling already feel low, plus potential health hazard from I heard the ceiling particles can come out over time and we breathe in the particles.

I like my current original ceiling (is it called reinforced concrete ceiling? It came with the house. Some beams towards the kitchen area but I don't so mind). Only problem now is, we prefer the kind of high curtain concealed till the ceiling like the above link, gives the illusion of bigger space and endless curtains.

Currently my ceiling have cornice and aircon above this living room windows, so the curtain railing now has to be just above the windows (below the aircon), because of the aircon la, so no high curtains. To give a better idea, my aircon is currently almost exactly like this first picture in this old thread. Cornice also almost similar as this too: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5310451.

If want to solve this issue, must relocate the aircon. And then, is it possible to do these kind of curtains behind the cornices (again, not sure if i'm describing it correctly?) :

https://au.pinterest.com/pin/9077636744067826/
https://au.pinterest.com/pin/70437489111675/
https://au.pinterest.com/pin/598556606711800113/

I try Google a bit but can't seem to find much info about this. Or are these also plaster ceilings?

So we still researching, plus thinking of hassle of relocating aircon (don't want cassette aircon though), because imo best position of aircon is above the windows as it is now...somehow placing it above the TV in front of the sofa, or behind the sofa, seems not as nice (just my opinion). But then have to sacrifice this high curtains idea.

Will you all have any suggestions or comments please? Will any contractor know how to do?

Plaster ceiling and lightings

Hi all,

For older landed subsale houses around klang valley, the living room till kitchen for downstairs, the lighting is mostly those traditional fluorescent light tubes with bright white light, while you can also see the beams. At least, this is how it is in the house I grew up in with my parents since late 90's/early 2000's.

Nowadays these new landed projects and latest trends you see in showrooms/interior design ads on facebook/lighting companies etc., you see a lot of downlights, plaster ceilings, ambience lighting, etc etc. Example can be seen here (Malaysiahomie link): Malaysiahomie

Currently planning reno for an old typical 22x75 landed subsale. I don't mind seeing beams, but I do want some cosy 3000k type of yellow lights. The existing electrical points can only fit one ceiling fan and two lights for the living room, while for the dining area, only one electrical point as well (for a light), then the dry kitchen area also just one point.

To add more lights, plaster ceiling is needed (is this the correct term?)

1) Plaster ceiling can go how low before it feels too low?
2) Are these kind of designs timeless? Let's say 20 years from now?
3) 20 years ago (let's say year 2005/2006), anyone remembers how was the trend that time for lights and ceiling design?
4) Or easier to stick with normal ceiling with beams i.e. no need do plaster ceiling? And btw my upstairs hall and rooms/bathrooms are those typical ceiling with lines (can't remember what's the term called).

Want to put internet in each room

Hi, bought an old subsale house which is about 20 years old. Those days when the house was built in year 2000's, that time no Unifi fibre stuff, only have Streamyx copper.

I think the previous owners had installed Unifi fibre at least, around year 2010 onwards. Not sure how they installed the fibre, have not looked into detail of the house yet, but I think the usual pull in the fibre from outside la.

Now it's year 2025, I need fast and stable internet, at least 300Mbps preferably. TIME internet is available in my housing area and I would like to choose TIME. But Unifi also can, I will check out the price comparison.

But importantly is, if possible, I would like Ethernet in downstairs living room, downstairs guest room, upstairs both the rooms (for children to study/laptop).

At my current childhood home where I'm staying now which I grew up in, only the living room have Ethernet (common la, only one main PC at living room ma haha). Then if want to use laptop in kitchen or upstairs, always have to use WiFi only and Wifi not fast enough or stable enough for me, somemmore high ping when want to play online game.

Is it possible to have wired Ethernet connection in so many rooms i.e. downstairs living room, downstairs guest room, upstairs both the rooms?

If possible I don't want to rely on Wifi, but if no choice I have to use Mesh Wifi is it?

Thanks all, hope can advise, this is my first property, so am new to all this electrical/wiring stuff
