Conventional Time Deposit vs. Amanah Time Deposit

Hi guys,

Most banks offer both conventional time deposit and Amanah time deposit (deposit-i), e.g.

- http://www.citibank.com.my/english/islamic...ime-deposit.htm

And the Islamic one always provides a higher return, e.g. 2.95% pa vs. 2.75% pa for 5K on 1-month.

What I want to understand is, a part of the $ will be used only in Shariah compliant investments and transactions,

- What else does it do to guarantee a higher return?
- Does it get any incentive from the government?
- In short, how does it work technically?

And,

- How shall one choose between these two?
- From bank's POV, which will be their preferred consumer's choice?

Since it gives a higher return, won't that kill off conventional FD eventually if all consumers go for it (given human behavior in choosing the higher return naturally)?
Sport or Country Club Around KL / Cheras / Kajang

Hi guys,

I have been the user of The Club (Damansara) for the past 3 years, given that my membership is expiring, and given that I seldom drive there from work (PJ) anymore but from home - which is not too gas-economical, am looking from clubs around KL / Cheras / Kajang area.

I know there's a Melawati club near Setapak, but it's in a really bad shape when I last checked it (like 4 years ago). I know there's a club between Ampang and Cheras but I can never remember its name (and it's not too cheap).

So, any recommendation for a club that costs around 1000~1500 (The Club is at ~1000 only), with an Olympic-size pool, gym center, etc.?

Thanks a lot And do share with me your experience!
LHDN - Donation to Open Source Projects / Charity

Hi guys,

I made some donations to Wikipedia, FOSS projects and also SPCA. In their official page, apparently, they do not mention explicitly on FOSS (probably they don't give a shit about it too) and Pet stuff (I am not even sure what is "Approved Organisations") - so I'm wondering, can I get tax relief from these?

I don't put much hope though, but I think SPCA donation shall be possible?

Rickard Oberg on Composite Oriented Programming

Rickard Oberg (the chief architect of JBoss, founder of WebWork and XDoclet) is in town and will be talking about Composite Oriented Programming (using Qi4J) in the FOSS (Free & Open Source Software, Society, Malaysia) meeting next Thursday.

I'm from the Malaysian Java User Group, and we are supporting this event. :-) Please join us this time and you can find more details from:

FOSS -- http://foss.org.my/projects/meetups/march-...rch-2008-meetup
MyJUG Calendar -- http://www.my-jug.org/calendar
Facebook Event -- http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=8577592397

If this is not the right place to post about this, please let me know.
Malaysian Java User Group

Hi guys,

I am one of exco committees of the Malaysian Java User Group (MyJUG). A Java User Group, basically, is a non-profit organization, a group of people who share common interest in Java and related technology.

I am very much interested in knowing how many of the coders here will be interested in participating in the group and attending its Java related events and technical talks? I have recently sent a public request to the mailing list and to some organizations at:

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/myjug/message/6966

This is not really an advertisement although it does sound like one. The MyJUG is a non-profitable organization and our aim is simply to gather the Java lovers, workers and experts under one roof and to promote communication among them to form a solid community / source to the industry. Moderators please advice me on a better protocol to deliver this, if there's one, thanks. :-)

yc

Hi guys,

I have just shared about OpenID in my latest blog entry, brief explanation, and some start-up links. Something which is going to drive Web 2.0 further.

If you are interested about it, feel free to visit:

* http://yclian.blogspot.com/2007/04/get-into-openid.html

For Java geeks and developers, see this:

* http://code.google.com/p/openid4java/

If you're familiar with TypePad, LiveJournal, ... You may have adopted it into your sites and web practices.

Anyway, my working environment is always surrounded and combines with the latest web technology, e.g. Web 2.0, SSO, Wiki, Blogging, etc. I'd be great to meet Malaysian with the same interests here.

Cheers.
