Intern Behavior?

I found less discussion about intern behavior everywhere, I'm not sure why? Because they are cheap labour? Or because no one have similar experience like me? The main purpose we hiring intern is like a pre-screening for a permanent position, maybe that's why we feel upset when getting this kind of intern quality I know you can't expect too much from an intern or fresh graduates, be prepared they know nothing, but I just can't accept this kind of attitude.

Anyone here facing difficulties with their interns? Until you wanted to fire them although it's cheaper than hiring a fresh graduate? (Anyone really fired interns before? Can share your experience???)

It's my first time hiring interns (final year) for my company and these are my interns' issue:

1. Confirm your candidacy before attend to work. We received enquiries from 2 candidates from same institute at first place (Ms. M and Ms. I), but only Ms. M replied "confirmed", and Ms. M said she will report to work 2 days late (ie. Wednesday). On Monday, suddenly Ms. I appeared Ok, we thought, since she already came, spent for rental etc, just hired lo, moreover 2 is better than 1 (yeah because we are looking candidate for permanent position from internship). But PLEASE REPLY EMAIL OR PHONE CALL TO CONFIRM YOUR INTERNSHIP, not straight walk in to the company ok?!

2. Punctuality. As an outstation intern, it's pity that they need to pay for accommodation, and about RM36++ travelling cost per day (yeah they say the place they rented do not have public transport, the only way to travel is Grab). Ok, so I offer to fetch them from a waiting point, where they need to walk about 20mins from where they stayed. Since day 1 we agreed to meet at 8.30am, office start 9am, but everytime I have to wait till 8.45am or 8.55am only they reached the waiting point. I give you convenience, you make me late to work and sometimes they say they will take grab to office directly, but have to wait after 9am only can book the grab, because the cost will be shrunk from RM18 per trip to RM10 per trip (off-peak hours). Ok, u book grab at 9am, then wait driver, then 15 mins to office, what time do u guess you will reach office? REMINDER, office hour start 9am yeah I'm not sure how to consider "late to work", if I say "after 9.15am considered late" then they are almost late everyday (ok la, average every week still have 1 day arrived office on time I guess), if I say after "after 10am only considered late" then still 30:70. Today even "greater" excuse for leave, Ms. I mistakenly bought ticket to travel back from her hometown, she see the wrong date and didn't notice the "am" and "pm".

3. Leave quota. Even fresh graduates only have 8 days annual leaves + 14 days medical leave. How many days leave shall I give to a 6-month-interns? After completing 3-months internship, Ms. I applied: full-day leave 3 days (haven't count half-day leave) + sick leave with MC 2 days + sick leave without MC 3 days.

4. Holiday. To all interns, you are now in the work environment if you join internship, although you are not graduated yet. Don't argue with your employer that the calendar say there are 1 month or 2 month holidays etc, we do not follow school holidays ya. I'm actually very confuse too, as I remember I no longer follow Malaysia school holiday calendar since leaving secondary school Otherwise everyone will opts for a 3-month-program and choose the longest school holiday period for internship. Also, please refer to your respective HR on the company's holiday policy.

5. Personal phone call. Ok I know it's quite inhuman to not let your staff talk to their family during working hour, but I just don't understand as an working adult (ok still under training) can you just "leave" your family for half an hour? Or how long do u think it's reasonable for personal call during office hour? I wonder what your family are doing, they dont need to work? Or even they aren't working, they don't need to clean house? they don't cook? they don't eat? they don't take a nap? I wonder if she keep talking on phone during class time? How about exam time if the exam carries for more than 30 minutes that you cant call your family (or your institute allowed to talk on phone during exam as well)? Shall the employer install a CCTV and give their parent peace of mind that their kids are safe in our company? (oh no my kids childcare centre never give me the access to their CCTV as well)

Too much to nag, let see what else the other seniors or employers expect from the interns, or am I demand /expect too much from intern? (yeah many ppl say it's just an intern, they are innocent like a piece of white paper)

Call from Genting Rewards

Story begin.

A girl named "Ivy" called me and intro herself from Genting Rewards, they are currently doing a survey. She could spell out my full name as per IC, know my phone number and email address. Since it's only 3 questions and take less than a minute, I entertain her. What she asked is only "How frequent do u travel to Genting?", "When is the last time u go Genting", "Which part u usually visited?". OK, for the past 10 yrs I only went Genting once and that was my first time went into the casino, and so I've registered a red card. After answer the survey question, the fishy conversation start. She say they will offer me something like cash rewards, what I have to do is just reply a "Yes" in Whatsapp later. I just let it aside since I'm not going to Genting anytime soon too (still Covid-phobia), the girl call me again 2 days later to follow up and remind me to reply a "Yes". OK la, I thought since she called again, maybe need to hit some KPI, so I just reply to her. After 3 minutes, I receive a sms from those 5-digit number "Thank you for your registration..." without any name (usually sms from these numbers will start with entity name like MBB, Grab etc), followed by welcome email with username and password. However, all these r not from Genting but another website called "12Play", an online casino website. I visited this 12Play and Genting's FB page, and google search . What I found is only this 12Play FB did share some Genting news in the FB page, but no other linkage between both of them.

Anyone have similar experience before?

Another annoying fake email, it went to my spam when forwarded to my gmail If u click the "Report The User" u're caught
